I don’t think Zay falls into a category reserved for players with character concerns. My personal opinion (I’m always very hesitant for this type of speculation) is that his behavior lines up more with clinical depression or bipolar disorder. To my knowledge, he has never been popped for substance abuse, and he has also refrained from giving an exact account of what appeared to be a manic episode/suicide attempt. Going from small school nobody that overachieved and received grand attention to struggling to start at the highest level would be difficult for anyone, but combine that with the extremely elevated internal anxiety/pressure that is applied when depression is involved... Again, this is pure guesswork on my part but if I was involved in the interview process there would be someone on hand to help evaluate this exact thing. And if I were the GM of a franchise there would be a program in place that players would have to be a part of from day one to ensure they were getting the mental attention needed to be the best version of themselves possible. You need more than great players. You need great leaders that set great examples, and that comes from great men that lay the foundation for the next group that walks through the door.
Mac Jones hurts ankle, may not play in Senior Bowl NFL teams scouting Alabama quarterback Mac Jones may not get to use the Senior Bowl as a data point. Jones took part in practices for the game this week and remains in Mobile, but he is not sure if he will be able to play on Saturday. He injured his left ankle on Thursday and told reporters that he won’t risk further injury for the exhibition game. “I rolled my ankle a little bit,” Jones said, via NFL.com. “At first I was a little worried about my right leg and now my left leg is a little hurt. I didn’t get to finish but I don’t want to risk it at this point. We’ll just kind of figure out treatment and see how I feel. I’m not going to go out there if I’m not 100 percent.” Jones, who threw 41 touchdowns en route to a national title this season, said that he met with the Texans, Patriots, and Saints this week. Those three teams are just a fraction of the clubs with uncertain quarterback situations as we head toward what should be an active offseason for signal callers. NBC
Man, I’m personally fairly upset about that. Was looking forward to seeing what he could do out there
Michael Carter just ran a 12 yard straight up the gut run for a TD... all 22 players on the field were involved, lol... it was cool. A huge scrum/pile driven into the endzone.
@Tim Not sure if you find this as interesting as I do, but the draft portion over at CBS has really taken a step backwards this year. I’m not sure who their main analyst is now, but their site as of today, the Sunday post-senior bowl still has at minimum two names listed on the big board that are returning to school, and some of their rankings are way off. Teven Jenkins listed currently at 144 just for an example. For a site with the money they have to throw around it just seems like a pathetic effort. Not sure what the story is there
Funny thing about that is the busier I am at work, and the busier my daughter keeps me the more I’m doing things on my phone as opposed to the computer. Walter was bad enough on the computer, but on my phone it is an absolute joke. I probably lose one percent of battery life for every 30 seconds I’m on that site. There’s so much background shit running there I just can’t even use it. And nothing loaded quickly to begin with. CBS Was always just my starter list for how to scout guys. Like I’d go to their site and scout the first round projected guys, or I would go to the wide receiver page and just go from A to Z. But I was chatting with a friend about guys we liked, and he pointed out pretty quickly that I was talking about someone who is going back to school. And today I noticed on my own that I wasted time scouting Derion Kendrick who is also going back to school. I’m just surprised they’re being so lazy. They weren’t this bad in the past even if you didn’t like them
Just kind of curious on what’s a good sight to look at? I’ve checked out Walter and CBS and a lot of their ranking make zero sense.
I really don't follow anyone's rankings but drafttek is a decent reference source that seems to stay updated more than some others - https://www.drafttek.com/2021-NFL-Draft-Position-Rankings/Top-College-QBs.asp I'll post up a sheet with all of the players that I know of that have declared later today. I haven't updated it in a few days so it may not be 100% accurate.
I forgot about them. Definitely a few rankings in there that are quite different from the other places I’ve looked, but we’ve talked about this in past years. There’s so many people doing these rankings now that I find they are all over the place. Maybe especially certain positions, like wide receiver or safety. Probably corner too
Trevor Lawrence has labrum injury in left shoulder Quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s path to becoming the first overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft will include some repair work on his left shoulder. Lawrence’s agents announced, via multiple reporters, that their client has a labrum injury in that non-throwing shoulder. It will need to be repaired surgically and that has led to a change of plans for him to throw in front of teams. Lawrence will throw for teams on February 12 rather than at Clemson’s Pro Day. It seems unlikely that one throwing session would do anything to impact Jacksonville’s decision with the top pick, but that means they’ll still get a chance to see him in action before making anything official. Per the reports, Lawrence’s doctors are confident he’ll be fine in time for his first NFL training camp. NBC
Trevor Lawrence “pretty pleased” with Pro Day, should be ready for training camp Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer stood right next to Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney as Trevor Lawrence went through his throws during the quarterback’s de-facto Pro Day on Friday morning. The head coach duo was around five yards in front of Lawrence for much of the workout, making Meyer — whose Jags own the first pick in the upcoming draft — particularly hard to miss. “Yeah, I saw him,” Lawrence said in an interview with ESPN’s Rece Davis when the workout was over. “Just waived at him real quick, obviously can’t really communicate out here. But it’s been cool to see all the teams come out.” Lawrence put this together on Friday because he’s undergoing surgery to repair the labrum in his non-throwing shoulder. He wasn’t wearing pads and the throws were all against air. But his passes were on-target, save for some high balls in a red-zone period. “I was pretty pleased with it,” Lawrence said. “Obviously, like anything, you have some throws that you wish you could go back and hit a little bit better. But as a whole, I think it was a good day.” Lawrence noted the post-surgery timeline should work out for him to be fully recovered for training camp. “Obviously I’ve got to still continue talking to the doctors and see how the rehab goes, but I think I can throw in six-to-eight weeks after the surgery. And then looking at a four-to-five-month full clearance,” Lawrence said. “But obviously, I’ll be able to do stuff before then. But just glad it’s non-throwing shoulder, so shouldn’t be too bad. Just got to rehab really hard and work hard to get back. But I’m just excited to get that fixed and start that road to getting healthy.” It would be a major upset if the Jaguars picked someone else at No. 1 overall in a couple months, so Lawrence likely didn’t need to hold a Pro Day at all. But he said he wanted to do the pre-draft process “the right way.” “Just to show I’m no different than anybody else,” Lawrence said. “So just having to adjust and showing I’m able to adjust and adapt and still willing to come out here and throw and give teams a chance to see me — that was important to me and important to my team, to make sure we made that happen. And, obviously, it wasn’t necessarily the ideal situation and circumstances. But I think we did a great job of just kind of maneuvering and navigating through all that.” NBC/PFT
I looked at video of Lawrence's Pro Day and I thought he looked pretty good. Out of 52 tosses, only a handful were off. Deep ball's looked good, but a few mistakes in the 'red-zone' area. By mistakes I mean ball's just slightly off target, either lead to far or slightly behind the receiver. Im not a judge or scout by any means, but I thought he did well.
Im not a judge or scout by any means, but I thought he did well. Will.......I think he is a Future HOFer.......pretty sure he will like playing for the Jags.
It will be interesting to see how he progresses in the NFL. Right now he is going under the knife Tuesday and has a 4-5 month rehabilitation to tackle.
That's fine Will.....it's only February and it is his Left Shoulder.....Non Throwing arm. I just got a feeling he is going to do well in the NFL Will......which pisses me off because he is going to be in the Titans Division.
