He wasn’t at the level Rodgers currently is.

Favre had like 28 TDs and 15 picks his last GB season.

Rodgers is currently on a whole different level.

Different regime, different QB situation... unless you believe Love is the next Rodgers? Many believed in Rodgers and wondered what would happen to him rotting on the bench behind Favre. I don’t see the same questioning Love rotting on the bench. I sure as hell don’t have that belief.

Deshaun Watson has requested a trade

The Texans have settled on their next head coach, but David Culley’s imminent hiring doesn’t appear to have swayed quarterback Deshaun Watson‘s feelings about the team.

According to multiple reports, Watson has formally requested a trade away from Houston. PFT has confirmed, via a league source, that Watson made the request early last week.

A report over the weekend indicated that Watson was looking to get out regardless of who the team would hire as Bill O’Brien’s permanent replacement.

Watson has a no-trade clause, so he’ll have to sign off on any destination. Teams like the Dolphins, Jets, and Panthers have been mentioned as potential suitors for the 25-year-old’s services, although others may now wade into the fray and any deal will also have to bring back the right compensation for Houston to sign off on the trade.

With Matthew Stafford also on the block and uncertain quarterback situations for several teams, it’s shaping up to be quite an offseason when it comes to the most important position in football.

There you go... Watson finally said the 'trade' word in seriousness. He's committed now. No more wiggle room or doubts.

Watch Indy offer a haul that includes 3 firsts for Watson and a kickback of a future second and a third from differing years.

Or the cap strapped 49ers might get into it also and reconsider their sticking with Jimmy G.

I read Watson will be only a $10.5M cap hit for any team that signs him and that would bode well for San Fran, but they probably dont have the assets Indy could offer and the Jets and Dolphins have 2 1st rounders each, two teams Watson has already mentioned.

Going to be fun to see how this transacts. Im easily confused with all the possibility's that could arise, but someone is going to offer a kings ransom, because good, young QB's dont just fall off tree's.

New Orleans is in the phone right now ready to outbid just about anyone, so long as Drew is really retiring.

It’s the perfect combination of a cap strapped team that can retool and remain in contention by dumping future high picks and renegotiating veteran contracts to push cash down the road.

By the time that money comes due they will be ready to draft high again, replacing dumped veterans with early round talent, all while continuing to have a franchise passer.

If Watson is only 10.5 million cap this season the Steelers need to get in the fracas. Force Ben to retire and wave goodbye to Pouncey. Then when Bens money is off the books they can afford the bigger payments to Watson.

Could you imagine him with that Saints offense. Drew who ?? And I wouldn't put it past Mickey Loomis to do just that.

That's an interesting thought process. Shedding Brees' contract would free up some but not all of their cap space problem. Theoretically, they could get cap compliant by (a) taking Brees' money out but they would still have over $22M in dead money to deal with and then (b) rework a majority of the remaining contracts (they have 9 additional players contracted for over $10M in 2021).

My concern is that, after all the slicing and dicing is done, they wouldn't be able to field a competitive team capable enough to protect their shiny new star QB and still give him enough surrounding talent to keep them motivated until the new blood starts showing up for work.

There’s a way for Brees contract to shrink down to $11.75mil cap hit over the next two seasons by retiring/IR designation pre June 1.

If they cut Cook and Kwon, trade Jenkins and make that move on Brees they’re already about halfway there without renegotiating any vet contracts.

What if the Jaguars traded for him with the first pick which would be Lawrence?

Hmmmmmm. And the wheels keep spinning. How long will it take for everyone to have all 32 teams involved in this mess.:wall:

I have to think that Urban Meyer is going to want to select his quarterback and have him on that rookie deal to lay the foundation for his offense.

While I would certainly enjoy having him in Indy, I just cannot see them handing him to a division rival. I feel like three 1sts wouldn’t even be enough. For Lawrence?
Maybe...but like you said I doubt Meyer goes for it.

Thanks to his no trade clause highest bidder alone will not be the deciding factor. While there may be a dozen teams wanting Watson it has to be a team he wants to go play for. Unless he waives his no trade clause which he might do pending on how bad he wants out.

Surely there's no way he stays in the division, that is just unimaginable to me.

Yes, this is the Texans, a team so badly run they actually have Bears fans feeling sorry for their fanbase....but the Colts, or even the Jags would be straight up insanity.

They dont need to do that, they're getting a haul of picks one team or another. Not buying it.

Ok, but what does that look like in monetary terms, are they still $20mil over? $30mil? Thats a lot of restructuring. In fact its potentially pushing so much money down the road that the Saints would be utterly screwing themselves in the not too distant future no? Plus the 3 new holes you've just created, plus a lot of draft picks gone. The cap and roster gymnastics the Saints would have to perform to do this would be olympic podium levels.

And TBH, although its become arguably less reliable over the decades, the so called cyclical nature of the NFL is something that has always greatly appealed to me. I like to see bad teams get better that aren't the Lions(i remember having that exact discussion with someone on CBS in 2012 when the Chiefs just went 2-14 heh). The Saints may have made their own luck with the Brees move, but they've had their run of success and a fine run it was. Assuming Watson isnt dumb enough to go to Chicago i'd love to see him join a team like the Jets and make them better.

With that in mind Tim, i formally request that you throw your weight around a little and demand that Roger bans teams like the Pats, Saints & Steelers from having any involvement in this :point:

Ben Roethlisberger says he’s ready to restructure his contract for Steelers

Hours after Steelers President Art Rooney II said the team can’t handle Ben Roethlisberger‘s cap hit, Roethlisberger says he has no problem restructuring his contract to help the team out.

Roethlisberger told Ed Bouchette of TheAthletic.com that he agrees with everything Rooney said and is ready, willing and able to do what the Steelers need him to do to lower his massive $41.25 million cap hit for the 2021 season.

“I want to do everything I can and made that very clear to them from the very beginning that it was my idea to basically help the team however I can this year,” Roethlisberger said. “I don’t care about my pay at all this year.”

Roethlisberger indicated that he views 2021 as his last, best chance to win another Super Bowl ring, and he doesn’t want his cap hit to hold the Steelers back.

“I am pretty sure I want to go one more year [because] I think I can do it and give us a real chance and winning,” Roethlisberger said.

Reducing Roethlisberger’s cap hit was going to be the Steelers’ top priority this offseason. With Roethlisberger’s cooperation, that shouldn’t be a problem.

Nick Sirianni says he feels great about quarterback situation with Eagles

New Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has yet to meet with the local media at-large about his hiring and the situation he’s stepping into with his new team. However, he spoke with the team’s website ahead of his first press conference about the quarterback quandary he’s inheriting with Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts.

While the situation could be viewed as a mess given the regression of Wentz and the seemingly worthy challenge put forth by Hurts last season, Sirianni says he feels great about the position and the two players he’s going to be able to work with.

“I feel great. You look at a lot of rosters and they don’t have any quarterbacks that they feel really good about. We have two,” Sirianni said, via Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94 WIP. “That is unbelievable to be able to have two quarterbacks that have played and have played well.”

Because of his time spent working with head coach Frank Reich in Indianapolis, Sirianni said he was quite familiar with Wentz from tape. Reich was the Eagles’ offensive coordinator when they won Super Bowl LII and Wentz and Eagles Offense was a regular point of discussion between the two.

“I couldn’t have watched more tape on Carson Wentz in 2018 when Frank and I got back together and we were installing our offense with the Indianapolis Colts,” Sirianni said. “We watched a lot of Chargers tape and we watched a lot of Philadelphia Eagles tape from 2017. And man, what an impressive player. He has so much talent. And from what I have heard from everyone, a great person. Good talent, good person it takes your game to really high levels

But Sirianni said Hurts made an impression too in his run as starter at the end of the season.

“So excited Jalen got his snaps last year and was able to play last year and he played good football in meaningful games,” Sirianni said. “So not a lot of people have that luxury of having two quarterbacks tight have experience. So super excited to be able to work with them, because obviously we all know important that is to a football team.”
