Oh h*ck... I read @beachbum's quoted post wrong. I thought this was about Hue becoming y'all's (yinz's?) offensive coordinator.
If they refuse to put a piece of shit like Modell in the HOF, they sure as hell aren’t admitting a rapist in, all Modell did was be a giant douche bag.
He got rid of the Cleveland Browns for a few years Gidi.......that is not cool to say.........as an owner Art won Championship with the Browns and was above 500 for his tenure. What he did was very painful for Cleveland Browns Fans while he started a new franchise in Baltimore......the same F-ing division. Does he belong in the Hall of Fame...........sadly yes he does IMO.....he has 2 Championship Teams.....one in Cleveland and one in Baltimore. I never liked the guy and is attitude was all about Art.......BUT he was a good Builder of Football Teams.
Or, your love of the Steelers is blinding. It will only take a couple of detractors to bring up the controversy each year and speak on the negative publicity he would bring to keep him out. It isn’t the slam dunk that Steeler nation thinks it is.
Modell? HoF? Canton is in northern Ohio. Does the NFL really want the shitstorm that would hit if he ever got in? Modell is the kind of person that merits consideration when you look at what he did - on paper. But just like actual games, team management is not conducted on paper. He’s not getting in. He deserves the toasty spot where he currently resides.
As I said, I don't even like Ben. But okay. We can agree to disagree. And there a tons of people outside of Steelers nation that believe he'll be in first ballot.
So a week later and I'm watching the playoff coverage, wishing we'd made that 4th quarter drive, but still content with the team I love. Stef got COY, and deserved it. Hoping we actually hold real practices in the fall, and dare I say "pre season games". An off season that won't be about "who will be QB, who will be the HC, which Co Ordinator we're going to hire, in short, "stability". How big a miracle is that following the most unconventional season ever? Feeling good about all of that. Feeling confident in the front office, something I've not felt since I don't know when. Having done nearly all his mangement/coaching virtually this year, I wonder if the % of "live practices" are worth the injury risks. I trust Stefanski to find the right mix. Now it's round 2 for the front office and coaching staff to tweak the roster, add some youth, and plot the next season's script. I couldn't be more pleased with our position going in.
sorry, I didn’t mean to confuse things. I know you’ve not been a Ben apologist. That wasn’t my intent. All I was saying is that the voters talk and they listen. It only takes a couple that agree that his history, whether he went to jail for it, paid for it to go away, or whatever reality exists, would be bad publicity for the Hall and that spreads like wild fire through the voters. It will not be as easy as some think to get him in, let alone first ballot like some are talking about now. If he retires this year, Brees will be first ballot and most likely the only first ballot QB of the draft class. Next year it could be Brady if Ben manages to stay in the league another year. He will always be compared to his contemporaries and fellow nominees, then the real debate begins. He has an uphill climb to be a contender.
He’s not getting in. He deserves the toasty spot where he currently resides. He died in 2012.........and you may be right he may Never get into the Hall. Modell is the kind of person that merits consideration when you look at what he did - on paper. Yes that is how I feel........"On paper"
