It’s been confirmed that the Steelers are going to be making some coaching changes by letting 3 contracts expire and not being renewed. OC Randy Fichtner, OL coach Shawn Sarrett, and DB coach Bradley will be moving on. What say you about these moves? Not surprised about Fichtner and Sarrett, a little surprised about Bradley, they need to find Haden’s replacement.
TE coach James Daniel announced his retirement. Reports out saying Dolphins are interested in Matt Canaday as OC.
Hopefully they go outside to find an OC. I dont think any of it matters because until they make a change at the HC its going to be the same crap every year.
It very well could be per this article: https://steelersdepot.com/2021/01/six-options-to-be-the-steelers-next-offensive-coordinator/ I'm intrigued by the first 2 options besides Matt Canada, because both are run oriented offenses, we must make that a priority! We might be going heavy OL in draft.
They’ve had late season collapses in the last 3 seasons. Is that the product of an aging team or coaching? Or both? On the OL the most glaring need is LT. It appears their LG is set with Dotson (don’t understand why he didn’t start in the playoff game), Feiler doesn’t look the part for LG. Pouncey should probably retire. I think DeCastro has another year or 2 left. They seem to be overloaded with options at RT - Feiler, Banner, or Chukes. I’ve heard they may move Chukes to LT. With that said they need to look for a LT and C/G in the draft. Their weakest position is at RB, they desperately need better RBs. The decision to draft Claypool over Dobbins will take a few more years to see if it was the correct decision. But Claypool aka AB Junior Junior is not off to a good start when it comes down to NOT being a distraction. A lot of holes to fill and decisions to make
I want a stud RB, wanted Dobbins over Claypool but can't complain about Claypool as a player. This season we need to get a stud RB nd our offense will look better overall. We need another excellent draft this season. We had one of our best overall drafts of the Colbert era last season without a first Rd pick. Now if we can have the same success this season we will be allright.
I agree we need a stud RB, but without a OL that is going to get push at the LOS a stud running back isn’t going to matter! I’m assuming you want Etienne or Najee. I would prefer Najee
Reports are that the Steelers are going to promote Matt Canada to OC. I didn’t see anything from Canada to really impress me. There were a couple plays like the end around TD from Claypool. We didn’t see much motion at the end of the year. Maybe that’s part of the reason why Fichtner is gone.
Canada being hired as the quarterback coach was always a prelude to him becoming OC. The Steelers are going to move forward with Mason Rudolph as Ben’s replacement. It was simply a question of ‘when’ after Matt was hired. Now, with cap limitations to consider, I wouldn’t be surprised if Pittsburgh gently pushed Roethlisberger out the door.
It seems like he’s coming back in 2021 per reports. I don’t think Mason is Franchise QB material, but a good backup.
If the D is what many people here think is then Mason doesnt have to be great he just needs to be good.
I just reread my comment and realized my statement was supposed to say ISN’T a franchise QB. Our defense is good but not great, they need to figure out how to defend empty sets and screen passes.
KC, a defense that has been called average played a lot better against Cleveland today than our beloved team’s defense did last Sunday
Agree, supposedly Tomlin was calling the defensive plays. He needs to step away from being the multifunctioning head coach. Let Butler coach the defense. I hate hearing from the captain of the defense that they weren’t ready, that speaks to the coaching, they were able to practice all week, the browns weren’t and yet they were more prepared. If I was Art I would take a step back and specifically point that out, why in 2 separate occasions in which our opponent was decimated by COVID they were out coached thru preparation. I also would change the philosophy of giving vet’s a day off, they need to be practicing just as much as the younger players do, a cohesive unit is a well functioning unit.
Done deal... per; NBC Quarterback Dwayne Haskins‘ visit with the Steelers apparently went well. According to multiple reports, the Steelers have agreed to terms with Haskins on a contract. He will be part of their offseason roster and compete for a spot on the 53-man one they will take into the 2021 season. Haskins started six games for Washington this season and was pulled from his final appearance in Week 16. That start came a week after Haskins was seen out partying without a mask, which earned him a fine from the team and Washington cut Haskins a few days after that Week 16 loss. The Steelers had four quarterbacks under contract in 2020. Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph are signed for next season, but Josh Dobbs is headed for free agency and Devlin Hodges said his goodbyes to the team this week.
