On top of that....I hate that fumbling into the end zone and out of bounds is a touchback and loss of ball to the other team. That is a rule that’s never made sense.
The ball going through the endzone being a touchback rule is a relic of when football was more like rugby. Not even the CFL which is MUCH more like rugby has this rule. It would have been Cleveland ball at the 1.
Its a crazy rule but I doubt it changes any time soon it seems to pop its head up once a year but it never gets changed.
Ya I know. I was just adding to the convo. The last thing the league copied from the CFL they fucked up despite all their resources (penalty review).
Until your team does it. Seriously though as far as how the game has evolved it makes no sense. It's a relic from when it was about kicking for field position and it wasn't split off from the normal kicking rules and kept for anything.
Eventually they may get with it and change the rule to the offensive team keeping the ball on the 20.
So the defense should be punished because the offense screws up? No the ball through the end zone is a good rule
