Next season we play the NFC west and the AFC north along with the Buccaneers and Giants plus the NFC north 2x. 2022 will begin the rebuild. Any chance Trevor Lawrence stays in college another year?
Having given this some thought there may be a positive slant here. If the Bears were drafting high enough i really think Pace would've reached for a QB. But by 19-20 there's unlikely to be one to draft. The top4 are undoubtedly gone, prob top5 tbh. Meanwhile this seems to be shaping into a good draft for OT. After the top guy who's clearly #1, from what ive read there's like another 5, possibly 6 Tackles with a potential 1st round grade. Im not even talking Guards here. I realise this is more pats area, but broadly speaking its possible that dropping in the draft order may actually work out for once. It could keep Pace off a QB while still having a choice of multiple 1st rounders at the biggest position of need on the team. Unless of course Pace trades up 10-12 spots to take a QB in which case im going to Halas Hall and murder everyone.
Ev I love you man perhaps not in the way BWW does, but that's for another forum. Just look in the mirror and raise your hand now look at your hand very very closely, okay now slap yourself with it. This is still Pace we are talking about here doing the drafting. You and I both know he thinks he's the smartest man in the room and he's going to prove it come hell or high water. He'll probably draft a guard not the best mind you, but one with a low floor and high ceiling, and convert him into a tight end/kick returner. This is where we are with him. There's no candy-coating it.
See...if Pace is canned--tackle makes the most sense for a new GM stuck with Nagy for a year. There will be no shortage of talent at 19-20 range, so the spot is fine with me under a new GM. The intent isn't to shit on this sentiment--which I agree with 100%. Draft a fucking left tackle. Make sure you're not picking the broken one this time, preferably one who can bend and has some semblance of hand fighting and knows the snap count... If Pace is retained--how does he not throw what's left of his chip stack back at QB in the 1st round? His smartest move is to do that and have the kid show just enough to give it growth, in turn buying him another contract/year(s). OT will be fucked, and Pace will dumpster dive or convince himself Ifedi can play tackle for a couple mil because he can't pay anybody without fucking the cap down the road. Foles would be roadkill because he's a statue, and the kid will be thrust in by game 4 latest. Also, if Pace has a green light, he'll move up to get a guy. That fucking trade boner...
Can't we just have a coup? Like just burn down Halas Hall....kill everyone....ask Mark Cuban or someone to take over and install Theo Epstein as El Presidente? I don't see why this isn't possible. Stop being pussies.
This is the most terrifying thing I've read all year, because it's spot on. I hadn't though about the "I need to save my job" implications of another draft of Pace who MUST be on the hot seat by now. No way does he do the smart thing and just take a tackle, because this team needs a QB and even he knows it. How much draft capital will we fritter away here? Didn't you win Mongo's draft pick thing a few years ago hitting on a few picks? I think you might here too. I've even seen mock drafts that list the Bears going OG, when it seems so clear to us that Tackle is a far larger need, particularly with Daniels coming back. But as you say, because we know what we're dealing with, even in the best case we'll somehow end up trading up for a tackle.
