I'm not going to try to dictate NFL policy but, make it the same for everyone. Sometimes, the NFL looks like they're strong and then they look so weak. Pick a policy and stick with it.
Goodell needs to be replaced by a commissioning body of three, with a non-public voting process and a spokesperson to deliver decisions to the press. We will still bitch about decisions but removing a public figurehead and replacing it with a virtually silent governing body would eliminate the circus and give the league more power to adopt policy that’s good for the league, public opinion be damned.
There were two totally different sets of circumstances here. the Broncos didn’t have an outbreak, they simply had a positive and close contact quarantine(with a violation of rules to boot). The Ravens had a major outbreak across the board and once no new positives were coming in, the outbreak seemed to be contained and they managed to move the game far enough out to get it in and on the books. These two situations can’t be compared in my opinion. They weren’t giving the Ravens time to be competitive, they were going by the rules that covered positive tests.
Thats what the League has claimed. They (NFL) wont consider 'competitive edge' when making their decisions, so it may seem as tho actually someone does get a break, but its just a matter of circumstances.
Ravens not ready to say whether Lamar Jackson will play in next game Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson had to miss Wednesday’s game against the Steelers after testing positive for COVID-19, and at this point no one knows whether he’ll be back for the Ravens’ next game, on Tuesday against the Cowboys. Jackson reportedly tested positive on Thanksgiving. Players who test positive can return in as little as 10 days, if they’re asymptomatic and are testing negative, and the Ravens’ next game is 12 days after his positive test. But there has been no information publicly reported about Jackson’s condition. Ravens coach John Harbaugh wouldn’t say when Jackson will return, other than that it will be a medical decision, not a football decision. “They all have their different days when they’re possibly allowed to come back, but those are medical decisions, in the end, not coaching decisions,” Harbaugh said, via the Baltimore Sun. “So when the doctors clear them to practice, that’s when we’ll have them.” The Ravens were among the NFL’s preseason Super Bowl favorites, but now find themselves in a fight just to make the playoffs. They need Jackson back and healthy down the stretch. NBC
Cam Newton remains limited but downplays injury Cam Newton popped up on the practice report for the first time this season, listed as limited Wednesday with an abdomen injury. The Patriots quarterback remained limited Thursday. He insists the Patriots have nothing to worry about. “I will be [ready to play],” Newton said Thursday. “I’m feeling as good as I should be feeling. You just have to stay on top of things and see what the trainers say, and just keep getting treatment.” Unsurprisingly, coach Bill Belichick had little to say regarding Newton’s injury. “If there’s an adjustment we need to make, we’ll make it,” Belichick said Thursday morning. Newton, though, downplayed the injury when asked whether it was wear and tear or a new injury. “It’s football,” Newton said. Newton, who missed the Chiefs game in Week 4 with COVID-19, has thrown for 1,984 yards with four touchdowns and nine interceptions while running for 387 yards and nine touchdowns. “I think what drives me is knowing I have yet to play my best football,” Newton said. “Have I done it consistently? Not to my liking. But I’m getting there. It’s just a learning curve. It’s just learning every day. In the famous words of a quote from Game of Thrones, ‘You know nothing Jon Snow.’ That’s been my mentality each and every day.” The Patriots added fullback Jakob Johnson (knee) to the practice report. He was limited. Cornerback J.C. Jackson (hip) was among the players who remained limited. NBC
Bengals rookie QB Joe Burrow undergoes 'successful' knee surgery Joe Burrow's lengthy rehab can now begin. The Bengals announced the rookie quarterback underwent "successful" surgery Wednesday, 10 days after tearing the ACL and MCL in his left knee. "Joe Burrow underwent successful surgery yesterday," the team said in a statement. "The procedure went as planned and he is expected to make a complete recovery. Joe will begin the recovery process and we look forward to his return." NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Burrow had the reconstructive knee surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. The quick turnaround improves his chances of being on the field for the start of the 2021 campaign. Cincinnati is anticipating Burrow will need 8-9 months of recovery, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported last week. The season-ending injury cut short what was shaping up to be an excellent first year for the No. 1 draft pick. In 10 games, he completed 65.3% of his passes and averaged 268.8 yards passing while tossing 13 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Burrow's absence likely seals another top-five selection for the Bengals (2-8-1), whose needs remain abundant throughout the roster. The crestfallen franchise can at least take solace in not being in the market for a starting QB. NFL.com
Report: Lamar Jackson eligible to return from COVID-19 list Sunday The Ravens placed Robert Griffin III on injured reserve Friday. Starter Lamar Jackson remains on the COVID-19 reserve list. That leaves Trace McSorley as the only quarterback on the Ravens’ 53-player roster. For now. Jackson, the reigning NFL MVP, becomes eligible to return from the reserve/COVID-19 list Sunday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports. The Ravens, though, didn’t play J.K. Dobbins or Mark Ingram on Wednesday against the Steelers despite both running backs being removed from the COVID-19 list. Jackson has not participated in a regular practice in two weeks and wouldn’t get much work in before Tuesday’s game against the Cowboys. (Not that the Ravens have had many regular practices recently because of the COVID-19 outbreak.) So the Ravens will have to weigh whether Jackson is in good enough football shape to play in what is a must-win game for Baltimore. “I wish the best for Lamar and his health and he can get back as soon as he can,” McSorley said before Friday’s practice, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN. “But [we are going to] prepare as we always have been and be ready for anything.” McSorley, a sixth-round pick in 2019, returned from the COVID-19 list a day before the Ravens’ game in Pittsburgh. He played only after Griffin injured his hamstring. The Ravens could elevate quarterback Tyler Huntley from the practice squad. NBC
Josh Allen good to go despite knee and ankle injuries Bills quarterback Josh Allen officially has a pair of injuries. Also officially, those injuries won’t be keeping him from playing this week. Allen has no injury designation entering Monday night’s game against the 49ers. The Bills listed Allen as having both knee and ankle injuries. He was brought down in an awkward heap against the Chargers, and Allen seemed a bit hobbled thereafter. “It didn’t feel great,” Allen told PFT by phone after Sunday’s game. “But it is what it is. Gonna take more than that to get me out.” Indeed it is. It’s going to take more than that for Allen to even be limited in practice. The Bills have no players with any designation before Monday night’s game. NBC
Steelers list Ben Roethlisberger as questionable for Monday Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was out of practice for the third straight day on Saturday and his status for Monday’s game against the Washington Football Team is uncertain. The Steelers listed Roethlisberger as questionable to play. Roethlisberger was listed as out of Thursday’s estimated practice for non-injury reasons, but a knee issue has been added to the report for the last two days. Roethlisberger played without practicing in Week 10 because he was on the COVID-19 reserve list. Mason Rudolph and Josh Dobbs are the other quarterbacks on the Steelers roster. The Steelers also listed kicker Chris Boswell as questionable with a hip injury. Cornerback Steven Nelson is listed as doubtful with a knee injury. NBC
Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa expected to start vs. Bengals It appears that Tua Tagovailoa will be back behind center for Miami. The Dolphins quarterback is expected to be back in as the starter today, assuming all goes well in warmups, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. In anticipation of being back in the lineup, Tagovailoa took most of the first-team reps this week. Tagovailoa suffered the thumb injury to his throwing hand in practice on Nov. 25 and missed last week's game against the New York Jets. Ryan Fitzpatrick got the start and led Miami to the 20-3 win. The Dolphins are 3-1 in Tagovailoa's four starts. The rookie out of Alabama has passed for 602 yards and six touchdowns this season. Miami (7-4) plays host to the Cincinnati Bengals (2-8-1) at 1 p.m. ET. NFL.com
Ravens expect Lamar Jackson to start vs. Cowboys Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is expected to start Tuesday night’s game against the Cowboys. Jackson, who missed last week’s game against the Steelers after testing positive from COVID-19, is eligible to be removed from the COVID-19 reserve list today and should be back on the field Tuesday, according to ESPN. As the NFL’s reigning Most Valuable Player, Jackson is the most prominent player to test positive for COVID-19. He was part of a massive outbreak within the Ravens that resulted in their game against the Steelers being pushed back by six days and their game against the Cowboys pushed back by five days. But the Ravens managed to get their game against the Steelers played, and against the Cowboys they should be at close to full strength, including having their starting quarterback back on the field. Aaron Rodgers sets another milestone with 400th career touchdown Davante Adams saw on social media last week that Aaron Rodgers needed three touchdowns to hit 400 for his career. Adams caught the first; Robert Tonyan caught the second; and after Adams caught the third, he presented the ball to the Packers quarterback. “Yeah, that was a special moment,” Rodgers said. “I can remember all the hundred notches. I said after the game in an interview this will be the first out of those that I actually probably will get the ball. . . . [The receivers] didn’t say a whole lot during the week. It’s always interesting to see who gets the milestone throw. It was pretty cool that Davante got it. I didn’t do a whole lot on that play. It was a really good scheme and play. He did the whole thing and stiff-armed his way into the end zone. “It’s fun to have those milestones in back-to-back weeks. Like I said last week, a lot of it is longevity, but there also is some consistent play tied to it.” Rodgers became the fastest quarterback ever to reach 400 career passing touchdowns, and the seventh ever to hit the milestone. Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is the all-time leader with 569 touchdown passes and counting with Saints quarterback Drew Brees on injured reserve with 565. Rodgers last week became the 11th player in NFL history to reach 50,000 career passing yards. NBC
Report: Jalen Hurts to start for Eagles Eagles head coach Doug Pederson’s refusal to name a starting quarterback for Week 14 after pulling Carson Wentz in Sunday’s loss to the Packers suggested that Jalen Hurts was likely to get the nod and the choice has reportedly been made. ESPN reports that Hurts will make his first NFL start against the Saints at home this Sunday. Wentz will serve as the backup. The Eagles had resisted giving Hurts more than a token snap here or there through the first 11 games of the season, but they pulled Wentz with the Packers up 20-3 in the third quarter of Sunday’s game. Hurts threw a touchdown to Greg Ward and a Jalen Reagor punt return score to get the Eagles within a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but they wound up losing 30-16. Hurts was 5-of-12 for 109 yards and also threw an interception. The second-round pick also ran five times for 29 yards. There will be more discussion to come about what this means for Wentz’s future with the Eagles, but much of that will have to wait until everyone has seen what Hurts can do in the starting role. NBC
I don't think they gave up on Wentz but they finally gave up on the season and that this team right now is not one that can fix Wentz's mental issues. He isn't used to playing behind a line this bad with receivers this inconsistent. He is getting rattled. He SHOULD be better than that but he isn't adapting so the best thing to do is take him away, light that fire under his ass with Hurts taking the job and have him collect himself for next season. Now that they aren't backdooring into the playoffs they can finally do what they had to do. Hurts will get more reps which is a good thing but unless he goes off, which the rest of the team is not good enough for honestly, there is no danger to Wentz now or next year.
Saints quarterback Drew Brees is eligible to return to practice on Friday (not today), and he’s eligible to play as soon as Sunday at Philadelphia. So when will he be back from multiple broken ribs and a collapsed lung, and who will make the decision? “I would imagine like anything else it would be the doctors and the player,” Saint coach Sean Payton said during a Tuesday appearance on PFT PM. “I know we kind of stay up to speed on it. There’s a little bit with his injury of like watching spaghetti boil where you’ve gotta let it heal and it’s a little different than maybe soft tissue or a bone bruise . . . . There’s X amount of time that’s needed. This is the week he’s eligible to come off of Reserve/Injured. The rule this year was if someone goes on you’re on for a three-week minimum. But each day we’ll get an update as to how he’s doing. A lot of it is, ‘How does it feel?’ I’ve you’ve ever like really thrown a baseball, a football, or anything and then you realize your ribcage and all the soft tissue and muscles surrounding it. It’s pretty painful. And that’s the thing is to be able to function without those side effects or things that might hurt your play.” It’s hard to envision Brees returning for Sunday’s game at Philadelphia. It’s impossible to envision Brees missing the following Sunday’s game, a showdown with the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. “Drew’s the guy and if he says he can go then he’s gonna go,” quarterback Taysom Hill told PFT after Sunday’s win over the Falcons. “I think I’m in a situation where I’ve got to prepare as if I’m gonna go in case he can’t.” Brees surely wants to play ASAFP. The Saints surely want to know he’ll be healthy and effective when he does return. And the Saints likely prefer a 100-percent Hill over a diminished Brees. NBC
