For the presidential race, yes, I think it helped. Less (borderline senile) Biden, better for dems. Just let Trumpists make asses of themselves. As far as the "Squad", actually I completely disagree with your take. The more they talked, it helped the moderate dems lose their seats and benefitted republicans. This was confirmed by the dems who lost, who pointed directly to the rhetoric of reps like AOC as why things went down hill. "Defund the police" and "socialism" are losing buzzwords in suburban swing districts. The squad can do to the democratic party what the Trumpists are doing to the republican party now.
Agree to disagree. If 'defund the police' and 'socialism' are losing buzz words in suburban swing districts, why did all 4 squad members win big/handily? Races/primaries weren't close. Why did the squad expand multiple new congresspeople? That, and you're totally letting moderates off the hook by them running garbage candidates with garbage ideas. Going back to Hillary losing, these moderates wanted to go back to the same status quo that lost Dems the house/senate by 2010 and Hillary in 2016. The approach that 'the way things are going is just fine, no need to change.' And I just don't buy that. Trump winning the way he did should have been the kick in the ass/wake up call moderates needed yet ignored and missed. Before Trump won, people were still crushed by debt (medical, student, etc) and the debtors were allowed predatory tactics (to the moderates' defense--republicans pushed that through.) Also not sure it was 'confirmed,' as the NYT report is just about the 'after conference' where shitlibs/their corporate sponsors just all found it convenient to point the finger at progressives. When does the onus go on the candidate and the policies/platform they run? For example, a couple days after the election, my fiance is big into politics couldn't stop watching the talking heads--and on some CNN talking heads show they had former Missouri Senator Claire McKaskill on, and all she did was shit on the 'squad' calling them toxic, saying 'defund the police' is why they lost and had they shut up dems would be just fine. Sounded convincing if you're too lazy to pay attention/observe/use google--then you'd realize she's full of shit. Then you look and see she won because her predecessor back in 2008 (think his name was Todd Akin) was the guy who said women's bodies can somehow block unwanted pregnancy from 'legitimate rape.' Cool. She (centrist lib) won in a 'red' state. She then gets blown out of the water by dumbass Josh Hawley. Why? No fucking plan. No bills, policy, platform. She was an empty fucking suit in the pockets of whoever gave her money while Hawley just ran on being the loudest idiot in the room. I agree 'defund the police' is a stupid thing to run on and was literally the left's response to 'defund planned parenthood' (and the squad has reworded it to 'demilitarize the police'). I'm also not their biggest fan and dont agree with most points the squad has--but its obvious they have the 'it' factor dems desperately need and republicans have mastered. But when gameplan otherwise for moderates is 'the status quo works just fine so let's vote Biden to get back to normal/the orange man is bad'--when Americans left and right are broke, homeless, have mouths to feed, ration their fucking insulin/medicine and have to choose between living or eating, feel left out/marginalized in the entire process causing Americans to turn to the tough-talking orange con man who wants to make them cry/whine/tear it all down--not sure how that's the fault of AOC's rhetoric. That's on the candidate listening to the hand that feeds their retirement package when they're out of politics and their re-election campaigns when they're still running.
They won because they are in deep blue districts loaded with young, poor, and people of color. Easy for AOC to win the Bronx, let's see her try in a swing district in Virginia. None of the squad would have a shot in hell in a swing district. They (and their followers) lack the self-awareness that evangelicals lack. They assume they are morally correct on every issue, anyone who disagrees is a sinner/racist, and worst of all they don't realize that everyone outside their circle (which includes the media) hates them.
For most people it's all about safety and security. Economy is good = good for me. Economy is bad = bad for me. More police = good for me. Less police = bad for me. That's a pretty simplified version of it but when presented with a binary choice, the average person doesn't care about pronouns or racism, they want to be safe and secure. Trump being a con man has succeeded in convincing millions of people he's good for their safety and security. The dems have proven to be more decent (or at least less vile) than him, but haven't figured out the right messaging for a broad appeal, outside of what works on young woke people. Again, that messaging won't appeal to a broad swath of Americans who want the economy humming, jobs, financial security, and physical safety. This election was all about Trump. Not Biden. People came out and voted against Trump. This was proven in states like Wisconsin where republican reps did much better than their dem counterparts but at the top of the ballot many of those same exact people voted for Biden. The dems still have a ways to go to more broadly appeal to voters nationwide and they need something other than Trump is bad vote for us. That worked now, but won't always work in the future.
This election was all about Trump. Not Biden. People came out and voted against Trump. I agree with that Blang.......BUT. Over 73 Million People voted for Trump and he lost in 2020. In 2016 over 62 Million People voted for Trump. You are right a LOT people came out and Voted in 2020.
Yeah...people want stable leadership at the top. At least predictable leadership. And they want a Congress that won't so super progressive and tax them to death.
Yep. With higher taxes on average and you have to wait in line for cough medicine. Plus you're forced to live in Canada.
Preposterous! I have to wait for an MRI but not medicine. Plus that makes me adopt an attitude of not rushing to have tests done unless I really need them. Oh and did I mention that I don't pay for any of my medical procedures?
The end part I agree with. I'll be the guy splitting hairs over 'the economy.' People have replaced what the Economy actually is with how well Wall Street has done/how great stocks numbers are. Stock numbers up = good for those who have those stocks. Convincing the rest not involved in stocks that other people getting rich while they struggle is a good thing. Because socialism. Dems are a lot more pro-police/safety/borders than republicans are. Its not that their messaging is wrong, its that its not there at all. For example, kids in cages started under Obama. Dems were silent/not bragging how hundreds of thousands increasing by the year of how many illegals they deported under Barry. Police/direct military spending went up under Obama (spending on military industrialized complex decreased slightly). Republicans had a field day while dems were quiet when Barry halted F-22's, because there were dozens of unused ones sitting around while hundreds more via billions of dollars were on the way. Again, dems' silence is republicans gain because in the opinionated, talking head world we live in: if you don't defend yourself--its true. Trump fights every last bad thing said about him, even the borderline good/bad. I mentioned earlier, 'pounding your fist on the table until all eyes are on you' is an incredible strategy to use in this country, as 'arguing from the heart' has soooo much merit, unless you're full of shit/have nothing--that's how you lose elections to Joe Biden. As for the 'woke' part. Agreed. What the fuck is Latinx? Every last hispanic person I know gets irritated when shitlibs use that. Also--George Carlin's bit on 'soft language' is entirely applicable here. Dems use that and crush themselves. Oh agreed. "Orange man bad" was the entire dem playbook, and it beat Trump, but lost seats in the House, has made the Senate Runoff impossible for them to tie, and they didn't move one of many vulnerable republican state legislature.
And here comes the pardons/commutations part of the show. This should be good. Pelosi is already screaming "abuse of power". Never mind that Obama did this over 1700 times.
Would you mind telling me who Obama pardoned that was nearly as... controversial... as the guy who lied to the FBI about his wheeling and dealing with Russia (summarizing his offenses lightly)? Because the vast majority of Obama's pardons / commutations were for example, people who were convicted of "mutilating coins".
www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2020/11/24/so-far-trump-has-granted-clemency-less-frequently- Pardons Granted by President Barack Obama (2009-2017) (justice.gov) Yea right.
I swear if Trump gobblers didnt have their whataboutisms(usually re Obama) they wouldn't know what to say.
