That's a pretty low bar, though. His completion percentage was actually higher in Chicago than in any of his previous years. But his level of suck has always remained the same.

He’s been in some pretty shitty situations as the starting option.

Without researching it (I’ll verify later), this is probably/may be the best offense from a skills position point of view that he has ever quarterbacked.

Tampa had no problems moving on from him for a reason. The bears signed him to be a bridge guy for Mitch, and he was comically bad.

However, I do think this game has the potential to be much closer than what a lot of people are expecting.

 

I believe Minshew’s thumb is still on the mend enough to justify another week off, and it likely won’t be Doug that decides on the starting passer for 2021.

 

They’re a roll of the dice against average defenses, they murderate weak Ds and sputter against good ones.

They should put up 24 or more on JAC, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it ended in a final score of 30 - 24 with the Browns ending it much later in the 4th quarter than necessary.

Just the kind of game to make @Lyman consider going fishing at halftime to avoid the stress.

I stand by the thinking you try and talk him into taking the opt out. Yes is voluntary hence talk him into it. As Burrow doesnot plan to touch any of his NFL money making only 150k would not offend him as you might think. Not to mention the siging bonus of 24 mil would not be effected by the opt out from covid.

Now you say throw him out there to develop him well a qb behind a shoddy line getting knocked on his ass all game can be more harmful than good when it comes to development.

As for seeing what they have at the very least they were going to get an anove average qb the kind that would not require them to nab a second in back to back drafts. So seeing what they have was not a need.

Why would there be speculation he would get killed behind that line? Probably because they were top 8 in sacks alowed last season and while they might be more talented this year with last years rookie jonah wiliams making his debut this season after missing all of last season. The fact his missed last season makes him practically a rookie this year however and you now have a rookie qb (who your hoping is the franchise guy) being protected on his back side by a inexperanced left tackle. Then on top of the inexperiance you have covid disput everything meaning they have no chance to work on oline chemistry.

So even if i cant talk him into opting out im not starting him because even if he turns out to be the greatest qb of all time he is not carrying the Bengals to the championship this season. So roll with someone else have the horrible season your going to have no matter what and start surrounding himwith the pieces needed to be succesful without exposing him to injury.

Sure you can yell hindsight is 20/20 but many people said prior to the season burrow would take a lot of hits thanks to a porous line and little help in the running game (mixons name gets thrown eout a lot as a bell cow but the running game ranked 25th last season).

Sure my way is high out his mind thinking to you but in my way you are rolling into next season with a better surrounding cast and a healthy Burrow opposed to a qb who being its the bungles may be rushed back and suffer from doing so. Look at culpepper and RG3 for examples on how rushing your next qb back can be career killers.

I know teams could just go with the Madden rating as you prob do, but they like to actually see players play. They're old fashioned that way. BTW, i like how Burrow is this fully pre-known quantity in your mind but Jonah Williams isnt even tho both were the top player taken at their positions in their respective drafts. This, Jean, is what we call moving the goalposts. You could've just been mature about the whole thing and said Ev you're right, but instead you clumsily tried to change the terms so you could continue the argument. Congrats on another fail. I'd question if you even knew the opt out was player voluntary otherwise why say you'd order Burrow to sit. Also Burrow would never have sat purely on the suggestion of the team nor are they allowed to even try to place that kind of pressure on him or any other player, and we all know it. Get a grip.

Aren't the Jags a bad Defense? They're bottom10 against the run and the Browns are top3 running it. They should run the ball right down their throats, their O-Line should mangle them.

I know you're well on your way to winning our little debate on Anthony Lynn heh, but i feel the Browns are being done a bit of a dis-service here. They have their weaknesses but they are a good team. Far too good for a 1 win team like the Jags.

I expected the Browns to mangle the Bengals in the trenches in week 1 and got slightly singed, so its not a given. But the Browns should win this handily imo.

I'd hate for Lyman to miss a good performance cos he took your words to heart and went fishing early!

 

I do think the Browns will have success running the football, but I also think this is an ideal week for their defense to come out flat and struggle early on.

If Garrett were in this game I think Glennon has little to no chance to find an early rhythm.

However, I am reading that D.J. Chark may miss the game this weekend and if he does the chances of Jacksonville jumping out to an early lead are severely hamstringed.

As for the Browns as a whole - I'm not in agreement with the majority about them being a solid football team at this point. They still have some major issues to address this off-season and questions to be answered about the current makeup of their roster before I'm comfortable with being bullish on what they field on Sundays. They've had an extremely favorable schedule to get the record that they have, but at each of the tougher challenges they have faced the outcome has swung drastically away from them.

They're 1-3 against teams with a winning record. In the 3 losses, they have scored a total of 19 points while their opponents have scored 92.

Their wins have come against opponents with a combined 14 - 34 - 2 record.

I do think they are on the right path for success. I went on record prior to Berry being hired as GM stating he was the guy the Browns should target for the job, so I believe they have that front office position filled with the right guy. I'm not 100% on board with Stefanski, but I think we won't know what he can do with this team for at least two more seasons.

That's the biggest positive for the winning record this season, IMO. It makes the decision to stick with Stefanski through at least 2022 into the 2023 off-season much easier. Opening his tenure with a winning record buys him some capital with the front office that would be extremely difficult to burn through in year two. He'd have to put Cleveland through a catastrophic meltdown in 2021 for them to even consider removing him.

This all points towards longer term stability for a franchise that desperately needs that element. The Browns are far from a finished product, but getting to that point becomes much simpler when you're not in a constant state of rebuilding.

Well said.........I think it has been 13 QB's since the year 2000 ???.....constant re-building.

I want to see the Browns make the Playoff's and maybe turn some heads around.
