Tuesday Morning Thoughts - Time to tank

5-11 with a 10 game losing streak to close the season would probably force Georgie to clean house. It's the only thing to hope for at this point.

My only other thought is that I probably won't have the guts to sit through our next game, which is against the Peckers. Another national TV embarrassment.

The Texans, Jags, and Lions are all pretty bad teams. Bears might win any of those games, just because the other team is more incompetent. But this Bears team isn't going to win any games of their own volition. If we're lucky, all of those teams come in and play a good game, and Chicago has to fire this entire embarrassment of a front office / staff. I hate that it took this long - should've been done last year. But now we've wasted another year of this defense, and with guys like Hicks older and being paid a lot... I don't think this defense is going to survive a front office turnover / rebuild. Whether that's because the parts get shipped off for picks and a full rebuild, or because they're not as talented by the time an NFL offense exists in Chicago, who knows.

Should've been fixed last year. Should be fixed right now. Will it get fixed any time soon? Jeezus, I hope so...
Agreed. That was the last Bears game I object my family to, this year. I was hoping to use it to teach our son some important life lessons, and to point to how much fun the defense can be at times, but... I don't think I can sit through another game. It's just not good for my mental health, at this point.

If you are gonna tank....go all out.

Tank the rest of this season...trade anything valuable in the offseason and cut the worthless ones collecting easy paychecks. Invest in your Oline in the draft and prepare to suck hard next season so you can get a top pick because you aren't getting a top pick this time.

The Bears are so bad they don't even know how to suck properly.

    Only thoughts I really have....

Why was Ginn the punt returner when you had Anthony Miller?

Ryan Pace has drafted one QB in 6 seasons. He has drafted 2 tackles during that same time. The two biggest issues on offense are the spots he has failed to invest properly in.

The game was definitely over the second Hicks went to the sideline. He and Roquan were studs last night. Everyone else can go fuck themselves.

Happy Mack got a pick. Happy he picked up some holding calls. Pretty sure we traded for him to get sacks though.

3rd and 10....let's call a play where we throw the ball 5 yards behind the LOS....that should work.

That's all I got. It's too many words for a franchise that just isn't worth it. Fuck these guys.

The longest run the Bears have had the past two weeks is the 11 yard run by Barky Mingo on the fake punt.

We are just as bad. We were lucky to beat the Lions. And the Bucs. And the Falcons. Hopefully our luck ran out a while ago.

I'm fine with looking at a QB mid-1st round. Maybe the guy from BYU. The rest of the draft should be o-line heavy, no exceptions.

You know it will end badly with Miller. Either a muff or something worse is right around the corner.

Ejax is on my shit list. Dude quit last night and wasn't shy about it. No effort in tackling. Lazy coverage. Running his mouth almost half the time he was in camera-shot. Definitely not connected/dialed in. Maybe a team gives you a 1st rounder for him. Fuller you definitely can get a 1st rounder plus a 3rd, maybe more for. I like Kyle Fuller a lot, but you're wasting him here. I'm fairly sure Hicks will get you a 2nd round pick, he's got 1 year left at a reasonable amount per year.

I don't know how you keep Nagy and Pace. I just don't. They don't know what they're doing. 2 field goals is all you can muster with all the magic, schemes, and 'geniuses' calling the shots for this offense against one of the worst/banged up defenses in football. And now I'm back 100% to John Fox days where I'll give them a quarter at best before I find something productive to do.

Its the bye week, and the good news I do have is that there are 8 outstanding college OTs they can get next year in the 1st round. Oregon's Penei Sewell (not getting him--he'll go #2 after Lawrence), Bama's Alex Leatherwood (also probably not getting him), Michigan's Jalen Mayfield (shut down two 1st round pass rushers of 2020 draft in Chase Young and AJ Epenesa last year/run mauler), Notre Dame's Liam Eichenburg (looks like Ronny Stanley from a couple years ago and most years is a top 10 pick but there's so much talent ahead of him), Texas' Sam Cosmi (run mauler), Clemson's Jackson Carman (run mauler/I'm skeptical of his pass blocking because Trevor Lawrence tends to roll away from him), VT's Christian Darrisaw (monstrous run mauler who plays with a Kyle Long chip on his shoulder but needs some polishing in pass game/looks like a bears kind of guy), and Stanford's Walker Little (considered the #2 guy after Sewell until he got injured).

That's just tackles. Want a guard? Ohio State's Wyatt Davis (comp'd to Kyle Long and Pittsburgh's David DeCastro), Tennessee's Trey Smith and Cade Mays, Northwestern's Rashawn Slater, and USC's Alijah Vera-Tucker are all top 2 round guys with Davis being a top 10-15 pick and Smith/Mays late 1st rounders. Oklahoma has a Center also a late 1st projection.

I won't even bother with college QBs. Not getting Lawrence or Fields. Zak Wilson is the flavor of the month right now--after dunking on a good Boise State team (but cupcakes otherwise). If Mitch being a 1 year college starter taught you anything--then the North Dakota kid shouldn't be picked in the first round. Got some options at QB in 2nd/3rd round on in Brock Purdy, Kyle Trask. Don't get the love of the Georgia kid Newman because he opted out for Covid.

Back to reality, god I hope Green Bay drops 50/runs up the score on this team.

Is that a bad thing? If we're picking in the 10-16 range, it might be worth it.

I agree on the ND kid, I watched highlights of that game earlier in the season and he looked bad and lost.

  11. patg006 M.V.P. Bears

He hasn't played anybody good except Boise State--which yes he was impressive. I'm not going to blame him per-se for scheduling North Alabama, Houston (after losing most of their playmakers in the draft this past April), Western Kentucky, Navy, University of Texas at San Antonio, Louisiana Tech and Texas State.

After Boise State, the best team they faced is 4-3. Everybody else is 500 or worse.

Not just that, but Fields/Lawrence are both top 5 picks. If Wilson is the 3rd best QB, great chance he's off the board before picking in the 15-20 range you mentioned.

I want an OT. My favorite 3 are Eichenburg, Mayfield, and Derrisaw. Pick one and I'm happy. I'd then double dip with the second pick they have and take another lineman. Fix the trenches. Fix the run game. You can worry about a 1st round QB in 2022. You're stuck with Foles under contract given his guaranteed money in 2021 unless you eat all the dead money.

Is safe to say Nagy’s play calling wasn’t the problem

  13. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

Funny, people said the same thing about the QB switch. It's almost like "THE" problem is the larger failings from the top down, and everything else is "A" problem that still needs to be fixed in order for the team to win. But we all knew that. So... good contribution?

I do too. But what's the QB situation going to be like? I don't want another year of a placeholder Foles, Jameis, Dalton. I'm fine with actually using every pick we have for an OT, after we get that QB in the first round.

  15. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

Yeah, that's why I said that those games are still winnable if the other team is just more incompetent. Like you said, hopefully the luck has gone. Because what I don't want to see if Jax or Houston figuring out how to be worse than we are to get a better pick, and Chicago falling ass-first into a few wins that save jobs...

I'm fine with building the offensive line first. The Bears had the best shot at a franchise QB via draft that they've EVER had, and managed to absolutely blow it... Invest in the OL, then take QB's (plural) when you're in position to do so. The only thing is - Pace shouldn't be the one doing any of that. He needs to go.

  16. blang84 Legend Bears

At least the Jets will picking #1 overall, and they have tens of millions more in cap space than we do.

    I just want people fired.

    And for Virginia to die.

And for her idiot children to have a family war that results in the team being sold.

Is that too much to ask?

And then the new owners to move the team to St. Louis

  19. blang84 Legend Bears

My thinking is if the QB there, take him. The Packers took Jordan Love late in the first round. Time will tell if that was the right move. But their front office thought it was.

We don't have to have a top 3 pick in the draft to take a QB. There's no rule that says that. Take a guy when he's good and when he's available, whenever that is.

Pull a Ditka and trade your whole draft plus next season’s first to get Lawrence.
