Haven't there only been 1 or 2 Republicans to congratulate Biden and acknowledge his win? One of them being Mitt Romney. When the phuque did Romney change from being the 47% comment guy to the voice of reason in the GOP? Gov. DeWine here in Ohio congratulated Biden last night in an interview. I'm expecting our federal funding to dry up soon for at least until Jan 20th at noon.
I can't remember the last time I donated to a campaign above local politics. I think I donated to Obama's campaign when he was running for state senator in Illinois. I met him at a fundraiser and he just seemed like a very forward thinking man with real leadership qualities. Immensely disappointed in what he eventually became. I would love if all Americans would take the money they send all the cocksuckers in DC and instead invest it locally in their cities, towns, suburbs, and villages.
My fear is that the damage being done with his "refusal" to accept the results may be irreparable. I can't remember where I saw this but apparently 70% of republicans feel that the election was either a fraud or outright stolen by dems. That translates to at the very least tens of millions of Americans who no longer believe our elections are fair and free. This problem cannot be overstated and really has no precedent, at least in modern times. I'm not sure how we restore their faith and/or work to bring them back to reality, if that's possible. Intolerance and hatred are not the norm here, regardless of what the president says or does. Even his base is not entirely driven by intolerance, it's more their ignorance and anger at the coastal elites. We've elected black leaders to the highest position in the land. Maybe I live in a bubble but I don't know any racists or hatemongers. Most people live in peace and respect their fellow citizens regardless of race, religion, sexuality. Don't let the media distort from reality on the ground.
It's odd....so many of the older GOP guys that we once thought were extreme look middle of the road and normal now. There are certainly others that want to speak up but know it's a death sentence.
If that doesn't sum up the current sad state of things I don't know what does. I don't know. The fact that Trump will continue to be a threat for the next few years hurts. He can run again or one of his idiot offspring can run for office...and keep the Trump train rolling.
My personal experiences in the States on my bike trips over the last 20 years have strongly indicated a generous and friendly people in most of the States we have ridden through with one glaring exception in Georgia. I just feel like things have changed and maybe my opinion is mostly based on what the media has thrown at me but through some of the protests over the last few months there seems to be a pretty high level of intolerance, empathy and compassion for one's fellow man. That's what I am basing my comments on. My personal experiences have all been very positive aside from the one I mentioned earlier.
Even if he dies before 2024, "Trumpism" (lies, distortions, ignorance, anger, fear of the other) isn't going anywhere. That mantle will be picked up either by his kids, emerging young republicans like Madison Cawthorne, or someone else who's not yet well known.
Yep. And with younger Democrats definitely leaning more and more left....the divide just gets bigger. Is it possible to have a peaceful civil war where we just divide this country in half and allow everyone to relocate to whichever half they want?
I get that BF. To each others faces (and not chatting invisibly on-line) people tend to be neighborly for the most part. I have a few very Republican neighbors who are nice people. Just can't talk politics or they'd probably hate me. What seems to be a lot of the "problem" is that politics is now a shouting match as compromise has been abandoned for the most part. And the advent of biased cable news shows and stations has further led to the divide of "they're gonna screw you if you don't screw them first."
I've thought about this but honestly I wouldn't want to live in either half. Maybe we divide into thirds: a third for the AOC identity politics leftists, a third for Trumpists, and a third for everyone else. The leftists can stay on the coasts, the Trumpists in the deep south, and the rest of us will take all the flyover and rocky mountain states.
Fear and hate. And more fear and more hate. I'm a registered independent. I consider myself fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I get the feeling most days that I don't fit in anywhere, anymore.
Problem for the far lefty libs is they are such pussies they'd probably get invaded by Canada and lose.
There are a few responses that I could use to make my point. I chose yours, Baby. To me a lot of the response to Trump’s posturing is Reactivve, and not Proactive. (Now, Pres.-Elect Biden has taken a proactive approach which is both refreshing and crucial. He has commented on Trump’s methods, but they’re more observations than getting bogged down with them.) I say “let it play itself out” because Trump’s post-election strategy is 1) not going to work, and 2) does not/should not be dignified with a response. It’s not a Dem./Rep., or Lib./Cons. thing for Americans (and most societies around the globe) to be reactive rather than proactive. And I believe that’s unfortunate at best, and more likely it’s destructive. This is the social media age where everyone has instantaneous access to data, and everyone interprets data based on their view. But very few are engaged in deep reflection on what is the best way to respond. I do not believe that Trump’s antics will become a tipping point in American history. (A failure to respond to the pandemic, however, would be.) If we understand how he operates (how he thinks) then we’ve removed quite a bit of his self-perceived power. Ignoring him would be extremely frustrating for him, and slathering attention does no real good. It’s venting. It’s reactionary. It is undignified.
