That was a very interesting read. I did some reading this morning to understand more about the Electoral College. Is it true that the winner might not be declared until December 2020?
Isn’t the way around that to pull what trump did and just name a bunch of “acting” cabinet positions? This is one of many reasons I hate Democrats. Even when they win, the find a way to cuck themselves and pander to McConnell. If only they had the balls to have the same “elections have consequences” mentality republicans did 4 years ago?
Well I was wrong except for the last part. Still confident they fuck it up. Dems had all the momentum and lost seats in the House because running republican classic candidates/RINOs appeals to fucking no one. Progressives who were in the grassroots trenches won handily and got people to vote for Biden. Instead people think taking advice from loser candidates like Claire McKaskill is the way to go. The right in 4 years can easily take control of the House, expand the senate lead and win back the WH. All because dems think one of the smallest, least likable demographics is more important than the working class.
I was looking at a map just now and it's interesting that Trump has not flipped any states although so far Biden has flipped Arizona, Wisconsin and Michigan. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news...ial-votes-pennsylvania-georgia-arizona-nevada
I am not going into hearty discussion here - I have too much going on to really care that much. But it strikes me as a remarkably ignorant statement to cast aspersions on an institution established by the USA's founding fathers (yeah, they were all men). They established a government that has been remarkably stable for well over 200 years. The prescience they demonstrated with the establishment of the EC may be difficult to explain or to grasp. But it is FAR from stupid. First, one of the primary principles they wished to promulgate was for the open discourse of any issue. (The First Amendment is the FIRST, after all.) They wished for a true freedom of expression. There is a systemic problem however with a representative democracy. This can be summarized all too glibly with the concept of The Tyranny of the Majority. That is what the EC is intended to mitigate against. I'll use an example that has already been touched on above. California has a population that exceeds the combined population of several states; a pure popular vote system would risk enabling CA to neutralize the votes of several states. If we were an homogenous society then this would not be an important consideration. But we are far from homogenous; the EC essentially breaks the country into units that makes it less likely that a wildly popular position in CA - but not necessarily embraced in other parts - will become the prevailing basis for determining the POTUS. As I mentioned, this is extremely simplistic. But there is a good reason for why the founding fathers established it, and I believe their wisdom on the matter has currency today. Otherwise, just to touch on one other thing for my Canadian friend, Larry. Each state is allocated the number of EC votes based on their total Congressional representation (2 Senators + x HoReps.). Each states' popular vote determines who will get those EC votes on a winner-take-all* basis. (* Maine chose to permit their 4 EC votes to be divided based on the popular vote.) So, for example, PA gets 20 EC votes for the Senate and House total. The least amount a state can get is 3, so there is an inherent inequality; deal with it. I am willing to die on my sword to preserve the EC. This is actually a hollow claim since I am now a resident of Portugal and no longer have a vote in these matters.
Well, Trump took a lot of states in 2016 that were either on the fence or strongly Democratic in previous elections. Look at my comments about the purpose and benefit for the EC for a better appreciation for why this is germane. But, given this fact, this is not in the least bit surprising.
The prescience they demonstrated with the establishment of the EC may be difficult to explain or to grasp. Thank you Dan.........you explained that very well because I do not understand the EC....our voting system is a lot different in Canada. I Hope all is well in Portugal and a HUGE Football game tomorrow......Canada's TWO Favourite Teams play.....Seattle vs Buffalo.
I don’t want to eliminate the EC. I want to transform it. If a state has 20 EC votes...and one candidate wins 51% of the vote while the other wins 49%...that first candidate doesn’t deserve all 20. Half that state didn’t choose him. Or her.
Nope. You did. Same thing. Since when did BWW become God.........I always thought he was the Devil.....lol
