Good question about Biden's ability to work independently. He does seem old and less energetic but maybe that's just his personality. I think that the level of intolerance and hatred in the States is simmering and getting higher. Seriously I wouldn't be surprised to hear of organized riots and protests that could erupt into a civil war. No one listens to anyone else. The media is king and can turn any encounter into something deadly just by putting their spin on it.

 

The obvious way around those are ...

I remember the late 60's and things felt awfully bad then...we got through it. Times are worse now and it's magnified by the internet and social media. But we can get through it.

Actually in February, he was recorded admitting to Bob Woodward that he knew Covid was much worse than the flu. Then he turned around and lied about it publicly because he didn't want to disrupt the economy, which he takes full credit for.

 

Rules in our house were you don't disturb Mom when either Cronkite or Carson was on TV.

 

That was a good rule BWW........Walter was the BEST at reporting the News........I will never forget JFK and the way he delivered the Tragic news.

And I was a Kid that just got the day off school and came home to my Mum crying her eyes out watching Walter @ 11am local time.

 

I was 8 years old. Got sent home from school...my mom was shell shocked.

That was a time when Americans mostly supported the President whether they voted for him or not. My Dad thought JFK was a Communist in disguise but even he was beside himself that day. My oldest brother enlisted in the Army that week because he thought it was the start of a world war.

Extremely different times.

 

I think you guys bring up the best point, in comparing the 60's to now: how we get our information. The whole nation watching Kronkite at the same time every night - vs - everyone having constant lies beamed into their brain via social media, and finding truth too exhausting for at least half the US population despite having the greatest informational tool of all time in their hands.

That's why I don't have faith that America is going to make it through all this. The weapons available have proven greater than the will of the people, so far. Sure, Biden may win - but the Senate wasn't punished after years of destroying every institution our country has. Why should Congress get its s*** straight now? If Biden wins, the descent may slow, but I'm not convinced it's going to reverse any time soon.

 

Exactly dline. All of social media needs to go. It is a plague. The few benefits it provides(time critical updates for vital events, drunk girl fails videos) are outweighed 1,000 fold by the negatives.

Back to the election. This is a great twitter thread that debunks all of the Trump/republican claims on voter fraud (and some democratic claims as well). I had to share this with some of my Trump voting relatives and of course some dismissed as fake news;
