I really hope Trump does follow through and sue whatever states he's crying about. He's going to end up with so much egg on his face when literally none of the courts back up him, even the ones loaded with republicans. Count every vote.
He file as many lawsuits as he wants. My guess is that a sensible court will throw out most of them. But I'll defer to folks with more legal acumen than myself. Legally every vote that was postmarked by 11/3 must be counted. He and his cronies have been blatantly lying and claiming that "votes are still coming in" ignoring the crucial fact that these were votes that were mailed in on time. The scary part, as usual, is that millions of fools believe him. He really is the greatest threat to our democracy in 244 years.
It's staggering to think of the numbers of people who believe his lies. I wish this was all over so we can go about our days without thinking about this anymore. I'd actually rather watch a Bears game than this, and I'm a nervous wreck when I actually watch the Bears play.
The GOP is trying things in the court of public opinion. Get the populace riled up with lies, and let that be the basis of what you do. Facebook needs to go - it is just a site full of lies inciting violence and destroying credibility of democracy. Scary stuff. But at noon today, Nevada releases their count. If that goes Biden, pending recounts, it's over.
Even with the recounts, the difference will be too much for Trump to make up. Recounts never add more than a couple hundred votes either way, and Trump is trailing by thousands of votes in those states. If NV is called for Biden, it's over.
Yeah, I just meant that things technically won't be settled until recounts are concluded. But you're right - hard to imagine any recount swinging 30K votes... Noon today. I can wait.
I could not have my fingers crossed any harder than I do now. For ALL of your sakes he needs to be gone.
Sadly we will be left with a life long politician that is too old for this shit and a Senate that will refuse to work for him. Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi are the two sitting leaders that America most needs to be gone. Trump can no longer annoy us from a position of leadership....but him being out of power is roughly 1% of the overall fix this country really needs.
I'd say it's more than 1%. The man did everything possible to divide, spread constant lies and undermine our very democracy. It's a huge threat out of the way. Doesn't solve most of our problems, I agree.
It doesn't solve legislative problems, but it stops the bleeding out. Congress has always been a mess - we just had a President that managed to be worse these last four years.
I mentioned to Ev that I think things are going to continue deteriorating after the election. You can't have this much of a mess and expect it to get resolved just because you have a new person in office. It's going to take years to get this sorted out if it's even possible.
I'll give you 10%. McConnell and Graham make up at least a third all on their own with Pelosi and Schumer taking a huge chunk as well. And then there is the far left leaning squad and other very liberal Dems.... These folks do far more damage because they stay in power longer.
I think there has to come a time when things calm down. I guess. I just have a really hard time right now seeing when that is. Everyone is so heated. I remember the late 60's and things felt awfully bad then...we got through it. Times are worse now and it's magnified by the internet and social media. But we can get through it. Biden might be the right guy to let the fire die down a little. He really is more of a middle of the road guy. The question is how much influence does Harris and the far left have on his administration if he does take office? And can either side simply shut the fuck up for 5 minutes? I'm concerned about protests and riots, as always. The Tea Party got heated after Obama took office but it never got out on control. The real issue is Congress not going to work and simply doing it's job. McConnell will cock block Biden, even though the two are actually friends...or were at one time. If Biden creates a cabinet of people that McConnell can work with...things might go smoother. If Biden picks people McConnell views as radical....shit could be ugly. The other question I have is how much will Biden do on his own? When he talks he really does sound like an old man that isn't fully there anymore. Biden was always one of those energetic politicians. How much will the left take advantage of him to further their agenda? Time will only tell if he, as we all expect now, takes office in January.
