To be honest - I have mixed impressions of Lawrence. He most certainly has posted some serious QB stats at Clemson. But, the competition he faced in the ACC isn't too much to write home about - and - he had some serious talent around him. Then he goes out and posts serious some numbers in the playoffs against the best the NCAA has to offer.

I tend to think he will be a good to very good QB in the NFL. Can he perform at his NCAA playoff level every week in the NFL ?

So much hinges on getting the combination of coach and quarterback right. You can get away with a head coach and passer that don't exactly see eye to eye if you have a solid offensive coordinator, but if the HC is both?

And if you have the right coach but the quarterback is just wrong for what he wants to do then the QB has to be exceptional in order to succeed.

Windows of opportunity open and close quickly, and if you miss one it may be awhile until the next one comes along. That's not only true for coaches and players, but an entire franchise can have these fleeting chances fly right past them before they have a chance to correct any mistakes.

Not every team has the gift that New England had for over a decade where the rest of the division is constantly trying to get it right with little success.

Some teams are jammed into divisions where mistakes are magnified and victories are extremely rare for those yet to establish themselves.

That's why watching what Arizona did by completely changing course after one season with Wilks/Rosen and finding very strong returns already on Kingsbury/Murray is so damn impressive.

Most owners/general managers don't have the balls to make that choice (the success rate has to be infinitesimal).

And they took a ton of criticism when it was made public that was the direction they were going.

On this note just want to remind everyone in an attempt to limit any violence at the polls all democrats will be voting on Tuesday, all Republicans should show up to the polls on Wednesday. Happy voting!

The refs want Brady to keep winning. They picked up the PI flag on the 2-point conversion for Tampa to win. Defender slammed into his shoulder before he got to the ball.

I dont see why teams hold on to players they are not using and who also do not want to be there (example this year John Ross). There were plenty of teams looking for WR help. Hes a free agent after the season and unless they start using him he is surley walking. I know salary cap plays some part in deals or no deals but you would think there would be more moves on players like Ross.

Precedent. If every time a player goes public with a trade request they appease them it could lead to more coming forward. If teams were only offering a conditional 7th (which is likely) it might be better for them to draw the line and say No.

If he had not missed a game there are goid odds Cook would have rushed for 1000 yards already this season. As it is now he has outrushed 13 teams (10 of them have an extra game on him) and his 12 rushing touchdowns are better than 29 of the 32 teams (the 49ers have more with 15, the cardinals have 12 and his own team has 13). Those are offenive player of the year numbers and should even with their poor record garner some mvp votes (IMHO).

That was a horrible loss for the Jets. Sickening.

Flacco made a lot of great throws in that game but none of that matters cos he totally blew it at the end. Bears fans know all about Dowell Loggains substantial shortcomings, but FB lead PA was a perfect playcall there. If the deep ball is on then you hit it otherwise you have not one but 2 checkdowns for positive yards. The FB would've been a guaranteed FD and then you're out beyond the 30 with a running clock. Horrific QB play by Flacco to predetermine the deepball there. And then on the next possession he takes the terrible sack on 2nd down when again he had the checkdown for positive yards. Fucking Joe Flacco.

I would like to give an honourable mention also to the dickhead Greg Williams tho, for inexplicably losing his balls on 3rd & 20 and dropping into a soft zone instead of committing to pressure. Not what one would expect.

Jets might not get that close to a win again all season.

I'll never understand stuff like that. Bears do it a lot. I see it happen to a lot of good defenses.

Why decide to change what is working based on down and distance? A good defense should never take it's foot off the pedal.

Matt Patricia's Lions lost to an XFL QB and put up a goose egg against a bad defense. Matt may be gone soon.

I wonder if he makes it to Thanksgiving?

My guess with the short week no change but after that who knows

After thanksgiving the lions have a long enough time to make a switch if they want to

This is going to be one of the more difficult situations for a new coach and staff to step into.
