Sunday Night Football: Eagles win ugly, 23-9, to remain in first place

It wasn’t pretty. In fact, it was pretty ugly.

    But a win is a win is a win. . .

The Eagles overcame four Carson Wentz turnovers to beat the Cowboys 23-9 on Sunday Night Football. They improved to 3-4-1, while the Cowboys fell to 2-6 in perhaps their last, best hope of winning the NFC East.

Wentz lost two fumbles and threw two interceptions, but also threw touchdown passes of 2 yards to Jalen Reagor and 9 yards to Travis Fulgham. He was 15-of-27 for 123 yards.

Fulgham caught six passes for 78 yards.

The Eagles had only 222 yards, with Boston Scott rushing for 70 yards on 15 carries.

The Cowboys managed only 265 yards and scored only three points off Wentz’s miscues. Third-string quarterback Ben DiNucci lost one fumble after the Cowboys reached the Philadelphia 7 and had his second fumble returned for a controversial 53-yard touchdown by Rodney McLeod.

The Cowboys were down only six points, and driving at the Philadelphia 21, when T.J. Edwards stripped DiNucci on a blitz. It appeared Vinny Curry had possession and was down by contact, touched by Connor Williams, before Williams ripped the ball out. The ball was kicked, allowing McLeod to scoop and score.

The game was not stopped for the play to be officially reviewed.

DiNucci went 21-of-40 for 180 yards, and Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 63 yards on 19 carries.

The Cowboys have scored 22 total points in the past three games without Prescott, including only one touchdown which came in garbage time against the Cardinals.

Fletcher Cox had three tackles and a sack, and Brandon Graham had four tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Edwards had 12 tackles and the sack and forced fumble.

Jets trade Avery Williamson to the Steelers

    Avery Williamson believes in miracles.

The Jets linebacker has been traded from the league’s last team without a win to its last team without a loss.

Per multiple reports, Williamson has been traded to the 7-0 Steelers.

A fifth-round pick of the Titans in 2014, Williamson spent four seasons in Tennessee and the last two with the Jets. He started the last six games for the Jets.

Pittsburgh reportedly is shipping a 2022 fifth-round pick to the Jets for Williamson and a seventh-rounder in 2022.

Williamson has a base salary of $2.75 million with up to $750,000 in per-game roster bonuses, per a source with knowledge of the deal. The current terms result from a renegotiation that wiped out the last year of his contract; he’ll be a free agent in 2021.

Seahawks bounce back with 37-27 win over 49ers

The Seahawks bounced back from their first loss of the 2020 season with a strong performance against the 49ers.

Russell Wilson threw four touchdowns and the Seahawks had a strong defensive performance for the majority of a 37-27 victory. The win lifts the Seahawks to a 6-1 record on the season and leaves them alone in first place in the NFC West.

Wilson’s first touchdown pass was the 250th of his career and he’s the third player in history to hit that milestone in his ninth NFL season. That score went to DK Metcalf and Wilson hit Metcalf for a second touchdown in the second half to continue the second-year wideout’s strong 2020 campaign. He ended the day with 12 catches for 161 yards overall.

Rookie running back DeeJay Dallas also scored two touchdowns and the Seahawks built a 30-lead before the 49ers made things look a bit better with three touchdowns in the final quarter. Nick Mullens came in after Jimmy Garoppolo left with an ankle injury and went 18-of-25 for 238 yards and a touchdown.

That was far better than Garoppolo managed against a previously forgiving Seahawks Defense and his rough outing will lead some to revisit questions about his play that cropped up earlier this season. Seattle sacked him three times and he threw an interception while completing 11-of-16 passes for 84 yards.

Seattle’s defense has struggled throughout the season, so the first three quarters of Sunday’s game were encouraging. The late touchdowns wound up only having a cosmetic difference on the proceedings, which should lessen any sting from the final 15 minutes.

The 49ers also saw tight end George Kittle leave with an ankle injury and running back Tevin Coleman hurt his knee after coming off injured reserve Saturday, so there are more injuries to monitor for an already banged up 49ers squad.

The 49ers will be back in action against the Packers next weekend while the Seahawks will move on to Buffalo for a date with the Bills.

When the Steelers went 15-1 it took a butt fumble by Vinnie Testaverdi for us to pull out a last minute win against the cowboys

I really think this team is better than the 15-1 team. Ben is not as nimble but he just seems so much more of a complete QB which, of course, comes with experience. The only bad part of his season is one bad half vs the Titans.

Desmond King is heading to Tennessee.

King, the cornerback and punt returner who was an All-Pro in 2018, has been traded from the Chargers to the Titans.

The Titans gave up a sixth-round draft pick to get King.

The Titans are 5-2 and fighting for a playoff berth, while the Chargers are 2-5 and probably out of playoff contention. So it makes sense for the Chargers to sell before tomorrow’s trade deadline.

Tennessee’s defense has been struggling, notably in yesterday’s loss to the Bengals, and they’ll hope King can come in and make an immediate impact.

The Saints and 49ers have reportedly hooked up to make a trade a day before the NFL’s trade deadline.

According to multiple reports that PFT has confirmed, the 49ers are sending veteran linebacker Kwon Alexander to New Orleans. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Saints will send a conditional fifth-round pick and likely a player to the Niners.

The 49ers signed Alexander to a four-year, $54 million contract as a free agent in 2019 and missed eight games last year with a torn pectoral. He returned for the postseason and helped the team reach the Super Bowl.

Alexander has missed the last three games this season with an ankle injury. He has 30 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble in the five games he has played.
