Garret - 2 sacks, Hunt 2 TDs, Defense 2 TOs, Baker 4 TDs tons of yardage for each team, Browns win in a battle to 50
The Browns are a better team without Beckham out there just as the Steelers wouldn’t be undefeated with AB still on the team.
I suspect many Browns fans are like me: anxiouos! Do we get the "new improved" Baker, or the Pittsburgh Baker? Can Higgins, DPJ, Bryant, continue to make us leap up and cheer or do some of those miraculous catches fall to earth. Can the D throw a net over our opponent's recievers, or are we in for yet another race to 50 points. I'd feel more confident with Teller and Chubb, so Baker didn't carry the game on his arm. I'm feeling like we're going to need to turn Vegas over a couple of times. I desperately want this one, so I can enjoy the Bye week with the knowledge, we only need 4 more wins out of 8 to secure a playoff spot, which bye the way we will be competing with Vegas for. Thinking good thoughts. Go Browns!
That is the most unfair statement...... How about we just get Baker Mayfield? The two time walk on Heisman trophy winning QB that the Browns spent the #1 overall pick on....
Is this a more fair question? would everyone be ok if each year Baker had 12 really solid, if not even great games, but had 4 shit storms that everyone would like to forget? What if in 4 games per year he throws 10 interceptions to 1-2 TDs, but only throws 2-3 INTs the rest of the season and has 30 TDs in those other 12 games? somehow, some way, I would be ok with that.
The Ratturds kicked the stuffing out of the Browns. The Chiefs beat the Ratturds. Da Raiders beat the Chiefs. Browns vs Raiders? The usual… Offensively the Browns have the firepower to hang with the best of them. The best thing they can do is to execute on each and every play. Defensively the secondary needs to step up their game. The Raiders passing game is decent. The combination of Agholor, Renfrow, Ruggs, and Waller is solid. Waller is their leading receiver and the Browns have struggled w/ TE’s… 4ever… Carr may not be great but is a capable QB. The Raiders did beat the Chiefs by throwing the ball and the Chiefs neglecting to cover route runners making it easy for Carr to complete passes. As long as the Browns wrap up and tackle prevent big plays. They can win this game.
Geezus - where to start. From 2000 to 2014, there were 13 Heisman winning QB's drafted in the NFL (4 of them #1 overall). All but 1 (Eric Crouch) became a starter for the team that drafted them. Of the 12 remaining, only Cam Newton is currently a starter (and we all know how that came to be) and 3 others are currently a backup QB for a different team (RGIII, Jameis Winston & Marcus Mariota). The rest of them are no longer in the NFL. Since 1999, the Browns have had three Heisman winning QB's as a starter. RGIII and Johnny Manziel were the other two. Conclusion: Being a Heisman winning QB only gets you an invitation to the combine. From 2000 to 2016, all but five #1 overall picks were QB's. (That's 12 QB's selected #1 overall.) Of those 12 QB's, only 5 are still active players in the NFL. Of those 5, only two (Matt Stafford and Jarod Goff) remain as the starting QB for the team that drafted them. Three of those 12 (Carson Palmer - CIN, Jamarcus Russell - OAK and Sam Bradford - STL) are widely considered as "busts". (Two of those three also won the Heisman.) Conclusion: Where a QB is drafted has zero to do with on-going performance. I will concede that being a two time walk on at two different NCAA programs - and - winning the starting job both times is a positive. I believe it had a lot to do with his mental approach to the game. But he wasn't a walk on for the Browns. The expectations that come with being a #1 overall pick far exceed anything he's experienced before. Regarding his two losses this year: I suspect Baltimore and Pittsburgh had something to do with that. Moving forward: I strongly suspect that the loss of OBJ for the year (as far as Mayfield is concerned) will be addition through subtraction.
Geezus, I just gave a quick one line description of Mayfield. Should I not have mentioned his Heisman or where he was picked in the draft??? lol! Nowhere did I say anything about said Heisman promising NFL success. I think we are all aware that Heismann trophy doesn't mean squat in the NFL. Some make it, some don't. IMO It's a college team award more than anything. I just thought it was unfair to say "good Baker" or "Pittsburgh Baker".....Pittsburgh is one of the strongest defenses in the NFL, and they wreck lots of gameplans. Not just Mayfield and the Browns. Same goes for "Baltimore Baker" for that matter. Like I mentioned before. I wanna give the kid a couple years in the same system before drawing any conclusions. Baker was starting to roll in his rookie season, in spite of Hue Jackson, and then everything got derailed under Freddie. So far, the Browns offense has been pretty explosive under Stephanski. I'm excited as hell to see Baker and this offense progress as they all get more comfortable in the system.
Need I remind you that Joe Burrow is playing in his third system in the last four years, as well? And he also didn't get the benefit of a full training camp or preseason. I admit I'm not as high on Mayfield as some. But I do believe he has the toolbag necessary to become a very good NFL quarterback. I also believe we're about to find out (one way or the other) how he responds to Kevin Stefanski. I strongly believe one less set of gums flapping at him on the field will go a long way towards a marked improvement.
Burrow (also Heisman winner btw) is a rookie, but I don't see how that's relevant to what's going on with the Browns over the last three seasons. Everyone coming into the league comes from a different system played at a completely different level. How many games has Burrow won? How did he look when they went to Baltimore? I'm not trying to make excuses for Baker. Hell we're 5-2, with our only losses coming to truly elite NFL teams.... As far as the Browns being better off without OBJ, all I can say is that nobody was saying that before his injury, and they sure as hell weren't saying it after he torched Dallas. Maybe somehow psychologically it can help Baker relax, but we aren't better off now that OBJ is gone for the season. His ability to draw double teams every play will be missed.
This very well could be another shootout for the Browns this weekend. I think we will continue to see Cleveland push the offense through Kareem Hunt and TE's Harrison Bryant and David Njoku. I'm expecting all 3 to get in the endzone again this week. Browns handle their business at home once again, in a high scoring affair. Cleveland 41, Las Vegas 30
Burrow may be a bad example... Baker broke the NFL rookie record for TDs. It was after teams got game film on him that he was corralled.
Lead the league with 14 takeaways. Sad part is, if our DBs could even be so-so pass catchers, we would have about 7 more on the year. They always say DBs are WRs that can’t catch. This team epitomizes that saying.
Classic TD. You defend him with his college and pre-draft accolades and then defend THAT defense with the notion that somehow you were obligated to do so. The answer of course is... No, you should not have mentioned Heisman or draft position, as it is now completely irrelevant. Carry on...
