WTM (Walnut Trees Matter)

 

I know. Every time I throw a piece in the fireplace, I know that there is some woodworker out there that wants to tar and feather me.

 

Maple, Birch and beech burn nice and even for a long time.

No one is putting oak or walnut in a burner around these parts. You can get a nice penny out of that lumber from cabinet makers.

 

No madness here ... just fun Everyone laughed, danced, drank and had a ton of fun. So many hands made short work of moving the wood. From start to finish it took them 4 hours to pile the wood on to the wagon, move it to the wood shelter and then remove each piece and stack it. It's crazy, I've never seen the wood get moved that fast. And even better, I didn't have to help at all except at the end. LOL

The wood is all seasoned hard wood. Maple, Ash, Walnut, Oak and the odd bit of Birch.

We dropped 25 trees 2 years ago and cut and split all of them, we will be moving that wood into the tent next. We probably have about 2 cords spread over our property to move yet.

 

I should have mentioned that a lot of our trees are Cherry which makes for a nice long and slow fire.

Maybe I should make another turkey and get my kid and the people over again ... there's always more wood to move at my place LOL

 

And just to show you how I keep myself on my toes ... I completely screwed up the spread sheet this morning and I have to redo all of Week 5's picks.

Life just keeps getting better and better ... LOL

 

I have a small stash of white oak I've been air drying for going on 4 years. It's used in structural members and frames (hull ribs) in wooden boats. Kiln dried oak doesn't stand the test of time in marine applications. As soon as kiln dried oak is exposed to a high humidity environment (like in the bilge of a wooden boat) it will warp and twist like a noodle.

 

CTM as much as WTM.

Yea I know. But it smells so good when you burn it.

 

Cherry Trees Matter as much as Walnut Trees Matter.

Do you have any idea how much money you're throwing into a burner to keep warm? I'm guessing you could sell the amount of uncut and unsplit walnut or cherry it would take to get 1 cord of firewood and buy 3 to 4 cords of other types of wood.

You want plastic furniture that just looks like walnut or cherry, then keep burning the real stuff.

Yes I do gid which is great because I can do the boards on Wednesday when I'm not so rushed.

 

You know what is weird and UNFAIR with next week schedule.

Buffalo Bills play Tennessee on Tuesday....they are scheduled to play Kansas City on Thursday....has not changed as of yet ???

Same out here Baby.........we get Cherry Trees from the Okanagan and they burn so nice.

 

I thought I read somewhere where the Bills/Chiefs game was moved to Sunday, but now I can't find the article. The Bills having to play anybody (much less the Chiefs) with only 2 days in between is unfair. Thank the Titans for that one.

Just 5 ?? You've posted pictures of your place before. And the trees looked pretty thick. But I didn't think they were that thick. Looks like a good place for a Babyfans Pick'Em party/mixer. We'll all show up I'm sure,,, but,,, how many of us will come out of those trees alive ?? Nature, natural causes, or something else.

I enjoy burning Cheery Wood because it is a nice Flame and LOW smoke.....and there are Millions of Cheery Trees in the Okanagan AS we speak.

They are been cut down so Orchardist can grow Grapes and make more money with Wineries.....and they give away the Wood for FREE.

So what you like me to do........go make a Couch out of a Cheery Tree just for you so you can watch your Browns on Sunday's......It's Free.
