There used to be this bar and music venue just outside Chicago down the road a bit from Ohare airport called the Thirsty Whale. It was a shithole dive but a legendary one. Mostly up and coming local bands played it but every once in a while you'd get a cool show from Foghat, Blue Oyster Cult, or someone along those lines. Mid 80s...somewhere around the same time the Bears were the beasts of the NFL.....I stopped in the Whale after work for a drink and to say hi to some friends. Someone was spreading around a rumor that Van Halen, who were doing a show down the road at the Rosemont Horizon, were planning to stop in after the show for drinks. So how do you go home after hearing that? I decided to hang around and an hour after Van Halen exited the stage at the Rosemont....they came in the god damn bar surrounded by pretty blonds and security guards. The place went crazy. Local cops had to block the doors and the parking lot and not allow anyone else in. It was chaos and I never really got close to any of the bands members but Eddie hit the stage alone for about an hour just playing his guitar and I can still close my eyes and hear and picture it like it's happening right now. It was friggin amazing. I was never all that into the more pop side of hair metal. I would gladly choose Metallica and Megadeth over Van Halen and Def Leppard. But Eddie was special. He was a magician. A true f'n genius with his guitar. Huge loss to the rock to world today.

Not to break up the Eddie tribute going on here but........ 'I Can See Clearly Now' singer Johnny Nash dies at 80 https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/06/entertainment/johnny-nash-death/index.html
As for Van Halen, their first album along with The Clash - London Calling were the first two records I bought when I got a record player as a B-day gift when I was 10. I can thank my best friends older brother for those two albums as he was always rocking out to something that struck a chord with my budding musical tastes. It was because of him that I bought every VH album as soon as I knew it came out.
The first album I ever bought was Kiss Alive. Double Album I wore that mf out. Get up and get your gradma out of here. That’s the first line of the first song on the album. How can you go wrong with an album like that?
Gotta remember something. We all hated Eddie too. Why? The SOB went out and married Valerie Bertinelli and crushed all of our dreams.

I'm sure it was Taped a long time ago.......but she still looks good even though she has put on the LBS. Oh I remember him. He'd stand at the plate and that left elbow of his would be twitching up and down. I hated that. Also I was a Dodger fan in the early '70's and he was part of the "big red machine". So for me it was easy to dislike him.
