The Flames hit on this big time. I have been in the market for a secondary team and I have good friends in Calgary. So the Flames are my official WC team. (Sorry, Larry.)
With Rossi (and Perfetti) still available I don’t like the pick. I had Quinn around 11-14 (higher than most), so I’m not throwing fits. He’s an early birthday but I’d be surprised (very surprised) if he were in Buffalo in January. Rossi will play right away for the Wild, IMHO. That’s not a reason to select a player, but it’s a good tiebreaker if two are close. We just don’t have enough on Quinn to be sure. What he did over the past year is extremely impressive. He also is in the company of players like Stamkos for number of goals in his draft year. Cozens was not my first choice for the Sabres a year ago, and it looks like I was wrong on that. So take my draft comments with a grain of salt. There should be some very good talent available for them in the second.
From all reports, sounds like the Panthers picked a defensively-outstanding, sizable, sound 2C prospect. Average skater, not outstanding shooter, etc. But solid and sound all over the ice, likely to be NHL ready sooner than later. From what I've watched, I would agree. Great positioning, calm head on his shoulders. Considering what was available at their spot, I think they did well. Just outside some of those elite players in the top 10. I haven't kept up with much else of the draft as of yet, so I'll be following this thread eagerly to hear everyone's takes on everything, and looking forward to more today.
lolol.... I just waited forever for the Wings to trade there 45th to the Kings for 2 later picks. Im going to lose my mind!!!!1111!!!!! Oh, wait. Too late.
I’m real happy that the Sabres drafted the third German off the boards. First, JJP was projected to go in the the late first. Second, I now have some personal interest for watching German and Swiss hockey. (He played for Munich in the DEL this past season, but signed in the Swiss league.) Adams had to trade his 4th (~#100) to move up from 38 to 34 to get him. I’m not in love with that, but I’m not complaining.
Jeff Kealty making the picks for Nashville. He’s my old teammate and buddy Joe’s older brother and the last 1st round pick of the Nordiques. It was great when Jeff would come out in the ice with us at practice.
Ducks go back to the well and nab former St. Mark's and Harvard bound D- Ian Moore to join Henry Thrun. Also meant to mention earlier, I think Ottawa chose the wrong D at #5. Drysdale > Sanderson.
