And just for the record I don’t really want any games forfeited. I love watching the games. I just want transparency about how this is handled. That’s why I said just forfeit in the first place. I’m not looking to pump up the Steelers record with unearned victories. But the handling of this has to be fair. The titans forfeiting to the bills would be extremely unfair to the Steelers.

Forfeiture is the last thing the NFL wants to do. Its a ploy to make the teams/players follow the protocol already in place and quit screwing things up. When you only have a 16 game schedule/season, a forfeit is not really doable. It effects too many variables of seeding teams come playoff time.

Do you think it’s fair? They should be talking about week 18 right now not forfeits. Or they have to give the Steelers the victory by forfeit.

    Gid,

The theory floating around that the Titans were exposed to Covid19 by a bus driver makes sense. Put half of your team (and a few coaches) in a confined space with infected carrier and there's a good chance some of those players and coaches could have been infected. The problem is the protocols put in place by the NFL are there to prevent players and personnel from becoming infected. Once infected, those protocols can't and won't reverse the testing results.

I don't know if the NFL protocols require players and personnel to wear a mask while riding on a bus from the airport to the hotel or stadium. I wouldn't be surprised if they were required. But, if not, I bet they do now.

Looking forward, the NFL could decide to just cancel a game without a forfeit. Virtually all meaningful data regarding Division/Conference standings, playoff seeding, draft position, etc is based on win percentage. Theoretically, they could simply cancel inter-conference games without affecting tie breaker procedures and focus on rescheduling only games between teams in the same conference.

If they start forfeiting games they can’t forfeit some and reschedule others. The rule maybe should be if a team can’t play two or more weeks in a row all those missed games become forfeits. One game and it’s rescheduled. Don’t reschedule until you see if they can play the next week.

Lyman, I really want all games played. I love watching football. From the end of the SB till the first kickoff of the season I sit and can’t wait for the season to get started. I don’t see how they can reschedule multiple games for one team with the format that football plays out their season. The way you are talking about is doable. They should have redone the schedule before the season started and maybe made sure every team had games from week 13-17 that don’t matter as much like inter conference games so if needed they could do what you said. The league thought they were above this and didn’t plan appropriately.

the NFL makes plenty of terrible decisions but blaming people/teams for contracting a virus during a pandemic would be an all time low. the lawsuits would be fantastic.

Now the patriots just had Gilmore test positive.

  9. gidion72 Legend Steelers

They shouldn’t blame the raiders if they contract the virus from bad off field decisions?

  10. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

Yep. And there will be more players testing positive as the season progresses.

This virus is going to wind up determining the champion this season. A team like the patriots just lost their best offense and defensive players for three weeks

    By tracing

  14. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

only to a degree and theres no definitive proof. blaming individuals for getting sick is ludicrous. Raiders may be assholes but blaming anyone for getting sick is being the bigger asshole.

The league needs to go to the bubble like the NBA

Contact tracing only tells investigators where to look. It does not confirm where the virus was transfered.

NBA roster have what, 12 roster spots and probably the same number of staff/trainers.
NFL a hundred in total per team id think. thats a big bubble

They need to chew a few packs of hubba bubba

The league needs to do something before the season spirals out of control
