Seems like Tallon punted on the Trochek contract..........which he signed him to, thus weakening his current roster.

I think Buffalo was on his list of teams he submitted when he signed as part of his modified NTC.

Yeah, as he put them on his “no go there” list. Then he waived that.

    He wanted outta NJ.

Oh ok, it was only 8 teams.

I was really mad seeing Kahun get traded. Nice young skilled player. Im not crazy about having Sheary back but getting him and Rodrigues as depth may be the better short term move which are the only type moves they need to be making at the deadline.

Id think Detroit can give him the whole asking price and he's a Michigan native so that would be my guess.
Colorado and Vegas seem like theyd be hard pressed to afford that number but other things are probably in the works.
Florida is intriguing, yes they need D in a bad way but is paying top $ for a mostly offensive D the answer? Krug has defensive deficiencies and they arent going away. At the same time he's a stud moving the puck and is a strong Dman in the O and Neutral zones.

Comes down to what the AAV is in my mind. Term doesnt scare me with him I think he has lots of tread left on the tires. Id be more comfortable with a guy like Krug getting 7 years as opposed to Pietrangelo.

I wouldnt mind seeing Krug in Detroit, but he still might be pricey and how would that fit in with just signing Staal?

Ericsson and Dailey are both out, so that does leave a hole on defense to be filled, Im just seeing the Wings being too conservative I guess to make a run at Krug.

Krug is not only a native, but he's just 29, so plenty of up-side should be left in the tank as you pointed out, Matty, but im skeptical.

Another thing you mentioned was his puck moving ability of Krug... this is desperately needed in Detroit as that PP has been dismal to say the least and a defenseman who can move it would be ideal.

Id say; sign him. But I'll have to clear it with Stevie. ;)

Id be surprised if Staal isnt released.
Nothing against Detroit but Staal has played in 1 city his whole career so it seems strange to me that he would waive his NMC in order to go to the team with a .........."less than ideal" record last season. Staal doesnt have much in the tank I gotta think he's looking for a contender that wants him on a short money/term deal. Could be wrong of course, I usually am.

Regardless the Wings have the money to spend if they want to. In a couple years they'll have a lot of money coming off the books- Zetterberg, Neilson, Abdelkader at something around $15.5 between them.

    Agreed.

This is why I pay close attention to you, Matty and Dan... I dont understand or can wrap my head around contract stuff. It's elusive to me, lol.

Wings have some brutal ones, like the ones listed above and then Helm also. Holland mustve been drunk on the job or something.
A couple more years and you keep stocking that cabinet with young players and you'll be in good shape Will.
I have faith in SY and I like the slow build approach he's taking.

There’s not a whole lot for me to add. This will just put my stamp on it. First, I think Staal, in all likelihood waived his NMC because he expected to be released. He then becomes an UFA and can pick his spot.
Who would not want Krug?! But his price is going to limit his options. I think Detroit is the front runner; they have the money and it’s his home. I’d put Florida in second. Colorado would seem likely but they’re going to save their pennies for a year or two down the line for Makar and others. While they have a lot of room this year, they cannot be profligate. I forget who the fourth team is, but I don’t see them as serious contenders anyway.

On the surface Krug to Detroit seems unlikely. They’re going to be a lottery team for a year or two. Krug has gotten accustomed to playing deep into the real season.

However, SY is known to be one of the best and I really like the pipeline they’re putting together. I think SY could push HARD because he’s good AND he compliments the young D they have percolating up. And, those youngsters are going to need veteran leadership. Krug could be the perfect player if he’s willing to put up with the suck, but by the end of the term the Wings could be contenders.

In terms of a trade to gain 12 days or so of sole negotiating rights, I think the price would have to be a third, and maybe a second (Montreal paid a fourth, and secured a much lesser player).

Here’s where it gets interesting. I think Detroit should actually be confident letting him go to FA and not pay Boston anything. Florida, with an unimpressive history and a new GM may benefit the most from exclusive talks. It always helps to have exclusive rights and if SY really wants him the Wings should not roll the dice and make Boston a competitive offer. They have a lot of draft capital to play with.

Pirri traded to Blackhawks by Golden Knights
Vegas receives Sikura in swap of forwards

Brandon Pirri was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks by the Vegas Golden Knights for Dylan Sikura on Monday.

Pirri, a 29-year-old forward, had two assists in 16 games with the Golden Knights this season and did not play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He can become an unrestricted free agent after next season.

Selected by Chicago in the second round (No. 59) of the 2009 NHL Draft, Pirri played his first four NHL seasons with the Blackhawks. He has scored 121 points (72 goals, 49 assists) in 275 regular-season games with the Golden Knights, New York Rangers, Anaheim Ducks, Florida Panthers and Blackhawks. He has no points in one playoff game.

Sikura, a 25-year-old forward, scored three points (one goal, two assists) in nine games with the Blackhawks this season and did not play in the postseason. He can become a restricted free agent after next season.

Selected by Chicago in the sixth round (No. 178) of the 2014 NHL Draft, Sikura has scored 14 points (one goal, 13 assists) in 47 regular-season games. He has not played in the playoffs.

Tampa is going to have to make a move or two to stay cap compliant. Sergachev and Cirelli need new deals and should get a nice bump.
Gourde, Johnson or Killorn most likely in play. Any takers here?

Those 3 are what gives the team depth... I think Tampa Bay would do nicely to not try to change a whole lot. Johnson and Killorn banged home some big goals, when the focus was on shutting down the Kutch line.

Lightning are built well enough to defend the Cup as it stands, so I dont foresee a lot of movement, but if the cap gets in the way, those 3 and a couple others are not untouchables for sure.

By the way, I think Tyler Johnson would look good back in Detroit, but as far as logistics, ive no clue, lol.

This week should be busy. The draft is only a week away. The flat cap is putting several teams in a bind.

TB essentially has no choice to move someone they’d rather keep. Arizona has no cap space, and no meaningful draft picks. Vancouver has to wrangle some cap space. Ditto for Vegas, and the NYR are not done creating cap space after the Staal sale.

Meanwhile this will be a very good draft in the top 8-11. And, teams in the top 20-22 range are sitting pretty. (Right now NJ has 3 picks in the top 20.) The quality runs deep into the middle of the 2nd round.

Two names that are not talked about as highly as they deserve: Connor Zary, C, WHL, and Lukas Reichel, W, DEL. Reichel may be the best prospect in Germany. Considering Stutzle’s status, that’s saying a lot.
