Carr is a good QB and he does have good stats and was ranked in the top 10 last season in QBR. I just questioned if there was enough talent to surpass what he proved he can already do. Not sure why he's getting dumped on by some people in the biz, nor do I understand why he takes it so personally... just go out and do your best and things should take care of themselves. Raiders making the playoffs would go a long way, but I sense there will still be Derick Carr haters... its just goes with the territory. In some ways he reminds me a bit like Cousins. A lot of folks bashed him for not living up to that contract and they still do, when , in my opinion, he isnt a shitty QB... he even made some great strides last year, but still gets picked apart for not being able to win a big or Prime Time games... which again, imo, just goes with the territory. These QB's live under a microscope in a Super Bowl or bust world, so there will always be criticism and thats ok by me, but the personal "he sucks" stuff is not justified when the proof says otherwise.
Just for the hell of it... Mark Davis optimistic in Year 3 of Jon Gruden-Derek Carr relationship The Raiders have gone 4-12 and 7-9 in Jon Gruden’s first two years as head coach, but Raiders owner Mark Davis remains optimistic. Davis said he believes the wins are going to come, and that’s because it’s Year 3 of quarterback Derek Carr working in Gruden’s offense. “The best quarterbacks are the ones that have the wins; stats will follow,” Davis said, via ESPN. “But you can’t discount the continuity between Derek and Jon. The longer they’re together, the more osmosis there is. There’s a legitimacy to all of it. Jon has a trust in him, and [Carr] works hard and he’s very, very smart. I think it’s all positive, but you still have to play the damn game.” A third consecutive losing season would raise serious questions about whether it’s ever going to work out with Carr in Gruden’s offense. And Gruden isn’t going anywhere. So if Carr wants to remain in Las Vegas, the results had better come this year. NBC
Carr is what he is. He has the arm talent to make the throws and the brains to learn and execute an NFL playbook. I will forever love him having the swagger as a kid to tell Paul Tagliabue he’d be back on the night his brother was drafted. But he’s 6 years in at this point. If he hasn’t taken the next step to elite QB by now, he’s never going to. You can win some games with him and even make the playoffs once in awhile, but he’s not likely taking you to the promised land. Cousins is probably a good comp, that’s the tier he’s in. Neither of those guys is gonna cause you much worry if your team gives him the ball back up two scores with 4 minutes to go. Doesn’t mean they can’t come back and beat you, but you feel a lot better about it than you would against Mahomes or Russ or Rodgers. He’s probably somewhere at the back end of the middle of the pack.
After checking the Colts schedule, Im not as high on them as a lot are. They might be a 5-11 or 6-10 football team even under Rivers. They just dont, in my opinion, stack up to some of the other teams in their Division very well... and the non-division games arnt any easier. Some have them winning their Division, I just dont see that at all. One thing Rivers has to accomplish this season is to not be a turnover machine like last year with the Chargers where he was 3rd in the League in turning the ball over. I think they have weapons offensively, but I think they also play a tough schedule that will create them some real headaches.
and another thing... Andy Ried was deemed gutsy and smart for going for a 4th and 1 from the Chiefs 34 in the first quarter last Thursday. Im not in agreement with this. I think he gets the glory because, fortunately for him, it worked. In my opinion, 4th and 1 at your own 34 in the first quarter, that early on, is a no-brainer to punt... they just got lucky.
They have a machine for an offense. I would go for fourth and a yard or less almost 100% of the time if I had his offense and even inside my own ten yard line
As I've admitted many times, much to my dismay/embarrassment, I was so wrong about Michael Thomas. (ftr-sucks about his injury). But I was damn sure right about D.K. I love looking back at the assessments we all had on certain players. For some bizarre reason, it felt like I was alone on the Metcalf wagon...Thus, this post.
That was a great year for wide receivers..... Deebo, A.J., Marquise, D.K.,McLaurin, and I know there are others I'm not thinking of.... I can understand some of that draft, but it's hard to believe Mecole, Paris, Whiteside and Isabella all got drafted in front of Metcalf....
I know it's only 3 weeks in - but - I think you can stick a fork in the following teams: Vikings 0-3 Bengals 0-2-1 Eagles 0-2-1 Texans 0-3 Falcons 0-3 Broncos 0-3 Giants 0-3 Jets 0-3 It's not because they're all winless . . . It's more how they're all winless.
If I had to pick 3 to rebound: Vikings Texans Falcons My least favorite of the 3: Falcons My to pick of the 3: Vikings
I agree with Tim about the Texans rebounding. They’re 0-3, but they teams they have played will be a combined 8-1 by the end of the night. Their first 3 games were @Chiefs, vs Ravens and @Steelers and they had a lead at halftime yesterday. So they’ve played against the top 2 teams in the NFL and the other team is 3-0 and has a top 5 defense. The Titans aren’t exactly lighting the world on fire, they’re 3-0 yes, but they’ve won 3 games by 6 points. Eventually that luck will run out, and the Texans will definitely give them a run as long as Watson is healthy. After watching the Texans play, they aren’t a horrible team. Also the Eagles rebounding? Unlikely. Haven’t they had 5 OL have pretty significant injuries? Pretty sure Joe posted 4 of their starting 5 were down and Peters went down with what I’m thinking is a possible career ending injury (haven’t seen updates, but it looked bad and he is up there in age). Wentz has looked pretty bad at times, and not likely to improve with his linemen dropping like flies.
Minnesota's opponents have a combined record of 9-0... the Vikings wernt good at all during the first 2 games, in fact, they flat out stunk, but over the course of the last game against the Titans, they showed their potential. I would hope they are a rebound team and can be in the hunt later in the season, but im really deflated right now, as we speak. ________ _____________ Texans could rip off a good streak also and get themselves in the hunt, in my opinion. They have too much talent not to. Some teams look to me like they just wernt ready for primetime with all this Covid 19 shit... and then some teams never missed a beat. ________ _____________ Falcons are a hard team for me to judge... you never know what's going to happen with them... they certainly are missing Julio, but damn, Calvin Ridley is on fire. They could make a splash also. ________ _____________ Eagles turning it around would be a story of all story's with the injuries they have suffered so far. For Joe's sake I hope they can turn it around.
Not quite alone. I drafted him for the Redskins in both mocks we did that off-season, in the 1st round nonetheless. Both times I followed it up with Daniel Jones, and then started missing after that LOL
I may have been wrong about the Colts... wouldnt be the first time or the last. Game aint over, but their playing well, especially on defense.
