The Vikings and tackle Riley Reiff are stuck in a late-camp salary impasse, and for now Reiff is creating the impression that he won’t blink. Per a league source, Reiff has told teammates he expects to be cut. This means that he doesn’t expect to reduce his $10.9 million salary for 2020. Cutting Reiff would create $8.7 million in cap space, with $2.2 million in dead money this year and another $2.2 million next year. It’s a common late-August dynamic for veterans with non-guaranteed contracts. After rosters elsewhere are set, the team gives the player an ultimatum on a reduced salary. By then, it will be difficult if not impossible for the player to get as much or more elsewhere. Behind the scenes, Reiff’s agent will gauge the market before making a final decision. Although it’s tampering for another team to tell Reiff’s agent what Reiff would be paid if he suddenly becomes available, it happens all the time. Reiff, 31, was a first-round pick of the Lions in 2012. He signed a five-year, $58.75 million deal with the Vikings as a free agent in 2017. He has made $36 million in three years with the Vikings. Mike Zimmer: We’ll have to see if Riley Reiff remains with team Word on Monday was that the Vikings want left tackle Riley Reiff to take a pay cut in order to remain on the roster and that Reiff told teammates that he expects to be cut. Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer didn’t announce Reiff’s departure during his Tuesday session with reporters and he didn’t have an answer for how things are going to play out. “Well, we’ll just have to see today, won’t we . . . I don’t want to speculate on anything right now,” Zimmer said, via Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. If Reiff does leave, Brian O'Neill is expected to move from right tackle to left tackle. Rashod Hill could be the replacement right tackle and Zimmer said the team has a lot of confidence in Hill’s ability to handle the job. NBC
well now it's either restructure or else looking like its next man up here it's your move Riley Reiff?
There won’t be a change of address for left tackle Riley Reiff after all. It looked like Reiff would be moving on from the Vikings on Monday. They asked him to restructure his deal with the team and take a lower salary in order to remain with the team. Reiff told teammates he expected to be cut, but things have changed since that point. According to multiple reports, Reiff as agreed to a new deal in Minnesota. Reiff was due to make base salaries of $10.9 million this year and $11.65 million next year, but the details of the revised pact aren’t clear. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Reiff’s agent called around about a potential trade before agreeing to the pay cut. He didn’t find anyone willing to make the deal, which leaves Reiff in position to return for a fourth season in Minnesota. PFT
I just found out on YouTube tha Trae Wayne is going miss the football season you got paid and you ain't played one game I'm just amazed lol
When it comes to the starting left guard position for the Vikings, Dakota Dozier won the Water Pik. And Aviante Collins got fired. The Vikings have released Collins, who battled Dozier for the left guard position in camp. Undrafted by the Vikings in 2017, Collins appeared in five games with one start. He also has spent time on the Minnesota practice squad. If he clears waivers, he could be doing that again. Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press suggests that the Vikings ultimately could keep 10 offensive linemen on the 53-man roster. The Vikings recently kept tackle Riley Reiff after a stare-down over his 2020 salary. NBC
Does anybody know what the heck is going on is the O-line going to be a sh*t show again this year Aviante Collins being cut was surprising, let me ask you a question why is it Rick Spielman can't take the step up he has more than enough time
A very scary time of the year for players if you made the team or not,in a way your showing your skill for every team in the NFL
I hope the Vikings make a move to pick up Josh Rosen I believe he would be a better back up to Capt Kirk than the qb they have now
Adrian Peterson was signed this morning by the Lions. Kerryon Johnson, Deandre Swift and now AP. They keep drafting and signing RB's, but cant run for 100 yards in a game... Must be an O-line thang! Nothing against AP ( i lied ), but i hope when they play the Vikings he gets stuffed repeatedly... a mouth full of purple helmet!
Wow he's back in the NFC NORTH looks like a bad fit for AP if both backs can stay healthy Kerryron Johnson and DeAndre Swift looks like a stud rb,don't really get this AP in Honolulu Blue laughing
Vikings claim Ryan Connelly; Jake Browning, Nate Stanley back to practice squad The Vikings didn’t keep a third quarterback on their 53-man roster, but they will have a couple close by if they need one this season. The team announced that Jake Browning and Nate Stanley have both returned to join the practice squad a day after being waived by the team. Browning spent last season on the practice squad and Stanley was a seventh-round pick this year. In addition to practice squad moves, the Vikings also announced some changes to the active roster. Linebacker Ryan Connelly has been claimed off of waivers from the Giants and linebacker Hardy Nickerson was waived in a corresponding move. Connelly, a 2019 fifth-round pick, had 20 tackles, two interceptions and a sack in four games last year before a torn ACL ended his season. NBC
Mike Zimmer on Danielle Hunter playing this week: “We’ll just have to see” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer has been coy about defensive end Danielle Hunter‘s health throughout camp. Six days from the first Sunday of the season, Zimmer is still not saying anything definitive. Asked by reporters whether Hunter will play on Sunday against the Packers, Zimmer said, “Yeah, I expect so. We’ll just have to see.” The first real clue will come Wednesday, when the Vikings issue their first practice report of the season. They’ll have to disclose whether Hunter is injured, the body part that is injured, and whether he practiced in full, on a limited basis, or not at all. Hunter is a key piece of the Minnesota defense, which last week added defensive end Yannick Ngakoue in a trade with the Jaguars. Zimmer consistently has said that Hunter has a “tweak.” NBC
