This kinda fell through the cracks . . .

JC Tretter missed practice on Thursday (and was presumed to held out on Friday) as he had a procedure done on one of his knees. Don't know if this is related to the leg injury he played through last year.

I guess he was too busy insuring players wouldn't take a pay cut due to Covid19 CBA negotiations to have this procedure done prior to training camp.

    {edit}

Turns out he had his knee scoped. His issue last year was a high ankle sprain.

I hate to say it, but we might need him. Although, with the type of season we are about to have due to COVID, not sure there is any room for a cancer type player in a locker room.

    Guys,

Don't be surprised if there is no season. I've got a sneaky suspicion the players are going to walk because of social injustice issues.

Sure hope your wrong. This whole thing and all the issues going on in the country/world is making me sick. Players not playing in the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB isnt doing shit nor will it.

It absolutely is "doing s***". Awareness is a thing. These players can't make laws, but they can bring awareness of injustices to the masses, who then demand it of lawmakers. Whether or not there's going to be a change remains to be seen, but change doesn't start with nothing being done.

The NFL is too large to have that kind of movement, I think - both in rosters and in financial power. You're not going to get thousands of players to do the same thing without exception, especially not with the power structure of the NFL (lack of guaranteed contracts, etc). The NFL as a body has never cared about social justice issues, and they've certainly never handled things the right way in anything requiring sound decision making. We may see stars sit out, but the league will still play on. Whether they can survive a combination of that, COVID, an election year, and other influences remains to be seen. I'm cynical and skeptical about it, but that's just my nature.

I respect your post/opinion... I just dont see how star athletes refusing to play creates awareness. If one isnt aware of all these things going on as it stands, they are simply ignorant (in the truest form of the word), buried in the sand or dead or some shit, lol. I just feel like legislation, education and proper training is the way to start and by all means, enforce the laws already imposed and lock the criminals up, whether they be office holders, officers of the law or common folk, lets punish the true troublemakers at the heart of all this.

I was also just kind of venting and a bit nervous when i first posted my comment. Everything is turned up-side down as it goes right now and im afraid of it getting worse. Sports/entertainment and other stuff give us people alternatives to a violent/pandemically sick, out of control world. I just cringed at the thought of no sports as an answer, because i honestly think it will have more of a negative effect on society than a positive effect geared towards equality, justice and peace.

Dont want to hi-jack a thread, but thought id comment once more. We are all in this thing called life together... I just hope/wish it would get better and soon.

    Piggybacking off of @Willie 's reply . . .

Only a fool would believe that awareness isn't at a record high today. Four years ago, Colin Kaepernick attempted to raise awareness. In a large part, he somewhat succeeded. Yet, four years later, these same social injustices are still occurring.

Today, the NFL and NLFPA's attempt to correct social injustices is centered around the "get out and vote" campaign (which is in line with the crux of your post). So, what do think will happen if the upcoming election returns the status quo?

Imagine Jerry Jones' reaction. Oh man!

  16. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

I disagree. Enough people in power or in a position to change things have abdicated that responsibility. As a result, it's up to athletes and public figures to help to draw awareness. The fact that people tuned into to see an NBA Playoff game and saw an empty, dark court with a few refs standing around should be an indelible image.

As much as I'd love to see NFL football this fall, I'd much rather see a nation coming together to heal the division and hate. If an NFL strike is required, so be it (FWIW... I don't see the NFL doing a wholesale strike -- best we'll get is players taking a knee during the anthem).

I share the sentiment, but keep in mind that hope and wish don't return action. Action returns action.

    Organize events.

    Spread awareness.

    Vote.

Agree with you and Willie but here's why I agree with players boycotting...

If awareness is high but no one does anything....awareness drops and we all go back to normal.

That's not what we need right now. We need the world to stop and look and make changes. And that's without taking a side in any of this....it doesn't matter if you believe BLM, support ANTIFA, back the Blue, vote for Trump, vote for Biden, or anywhere in between or any combination of any of those......EVERYONE should understand things aren't okay right now. And everyone should be invested in doing something that changes that.

If it takes disrupting everyday normal life...whether that's watching a meaningless baseball game or being able to make a deposit at the bank....then this is what should happen.

Kap didn't succeed 4 years ago because life went on as normal and the same type of stuff he was trying to raise awareness for has continued. Something has to change or four years from now we are having the same conversation only we are talking about all the deaths that will have happened during those 4 years.

Regardless of who wins we aren't gonna see a lot of change. Our attention is in the wrong direction. Re-electing Trump or electing Biden will do little push the needle either way.

People all over should be looking to their local governments first and then to Congress. Get all the long serving members of Congress out. All of them on both sides.
