Playing the Packers week 1 will be a good measuring stick to determine if the Vikings are for real or just posers. Hope their ready to go, because you have to come out fighting, there is no time to ramp up, or get in stride... you better be ready from the opening kick-off and thats my concern.

Can't blame him he's going for a ring cause the Cowboys look pretty tough on paper the Packers game will be a true measuring stick for the Vikings and Zimmer and Tricky Ricky

The Dolphins waived a pair of players on Thursday and both of them found new homes on Friday.

As noted earlier, defensive end Bryce Sterk was claimed by the Bengals. Safety Steven Parker was the only player cut loose in Miami and he’ll be joining the Vikings.

Parker was signed by the Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2018 and landed with the Dolphins as a waiver claim last September. He played in 14 games and made four starts while compiling 20 tackles and two interceptions for Miami last season.

The Vikings also had veteran free agent safety Jahleel Addae in for a workout, so Parker may not be the last addition to the secondary in Minnesota.

Vikings OC Kubiak: First-round pick Justin Jefferson 'exactly what we drafted'

After trading wide receiver Stefon Diggs this offseason, the Minnesota Vikings used the first-round pick they got in return to replace him.

Justin Jefferson was selected by the Vikings with the 22nd-overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and Vikings offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak likes what he sees early on in training camp.

"He's exactly what we drafted," Kubiak told reporters Sunday. "We knew he was a very talented young man who had a comfort zone in the slot because he did that a lot.

"When you sit there and talk routes and stuff, this kid's very knowledgeable. He's been coached by some good coaches before he got here. So he's working."

Jefferson starred in LSU's dynamic passing offense in 2019, catching 111 passes for 1,540 yards and 18 touchdowns en route to their College Football Playoff National Championship. The 21-year-old sports good size (6-foot-1), speed, and play-making ability after the catch, but replacing the elite route-running and sure hands of Diggs will be a tall order for the rookie.

When it comes to Jefferson being a starter on Week 1, Kubiak said he will be competing with Olabisi Johnson, Tajae Sharpe and Chad Beebe for the remaining three spots, which gives the rookie an opportunity to fill Diggs' No. 2 role opposite Adam Theilen.

"We're going to find out," Kubiak about Jefferson's chances. "We're going to let these guys compete.''

Kubiak will be assuming the role of play-caller after Kevin Stefanski's departure to the Browns, and hopes to install a balanced attack for the Vikings in 2020. Quarterback Kirk Cousins and running back Dalvin Cook and Theilen offer a solid trio of weapons for the Vikings offense, and key veteran leadership for a rookie aiming to contribute.

Getting acclimated to the speed of the pro game will be one Jefferson's biggest tests, however, and Kubiak mentioned this week will be great gauge to see what they really have in their first-rounder.

"This is going to be a grinder week," Kubiak said. "We've got a lot of football practices this week, a ton of reps so everybody is going to get a good hard look. We'll get our pads on throughout the course of this week, so we should be able to take a good look at what's going on. That's when the game gets real."

Vikings sign Hardy Nickerson, waive Marcus Sayles

The Vikings dispatched a linebacker on Monday in order to make room on the roster for a defensive back.

On Tuesday, they cut a defensive back to make room for a linebacker. The team announced the signing of linebacker Hardy Nickerson and that cornerback Marcus Sayles has been waived in a corresponding move.

Monday’s move saw linebacker Quentin Poling cut so there was space for safety Steven Parker. Parker was claimed off of waivers from the Dolphins.

Nickerson is the son of the former NFL star with the same name and entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois. He played in 37 games for the Bengals over the last three seasons and mostly played on special teams outside of making seven starts during the 2018 season.

Nickerson has 81 tackles and a forced fumble over the course of his career.

It's that time of the year name's come and go kinda hard to keep up at times, but I do wonder how they will look cause I except the Bears and Lions to be greatly improved and Packer will always be a tough game

I think in todays game they are all going to be tough, but those divisional games are a must win, in my opinion.

Vikings, Dalvin Cook break off contract talks

Vikings running back Dalvin Cook will apparently play out his contract.

Cook and the Vikings broke off contract talks on Tuesday, NFL Network reports.

That means Cook is poised to play this year on a $1.3 million salary and then hit free agency in 2021. He’ll be highly motivated to turn in a good year, with a second contract on the line next year.

The problem for Cook next year, however, will be that the likely reduced salary cap will make it harder for him to get a big contract, from the Vikings or any other team. The Vikings can also use the franchise tag to keep Cook from shopping himself to the highest bidder.

Cook is coming off the most productive season of his three-year career, having rushed for a career-high 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns, while also catching a career-high 53 passes for 519 yards.

RBs overvalue their services. He won’t get as much as he wants on the open market.
