I'm willing to take a lie detector test that I'm not the father of any of them? I honestly don't see how either of those points are within the context of the original questions you asked. Yes, the family dynamic is definitely missing in the lives of a lot of black youths. And that leads to more poverty, crime, miseducation, and so on. But that doesn't explain or justify police brutality or racial profiling. People wanna deny that racism exist in this country, be it blatant racism or blind, involuntary racism. But when crack and other drugs became an epidemic in the black community....the response around the country was mostly nothing. But when white kids started doing drugs in the suburbs....we got the war on drugs. Shootings in inner cities.....whatever. Shootings in middle America at white schools....crisis. Pawn shops and liquor stores....not in my neighborhood. Oh you want to put one on the corner of Blue Island and Wolcott...by all means, please do. Racism doesn't have to be blatant beat you over the head with a burning cross while wearing a white pillow case on your head racism to be racism. It comes in a lot of forms and sometimes it's very subtle. Is it true that the black community has allowed themselves to fall victim to much of this and hasn't done enough to fight it? In my opinion it most definitely is. But that doesn't make it right and doesn't make it okay. Also....when they do fight back and try to rise up....there's a lot of folks all too willing to beat them right back down.
I get it - you've misunderstood the protests and the message of inequality. Or, you disagree with it. Either way, if that's going to keep you from watching football, and more importantly from discussing with a community you've been a part of for a very long time... well, then enjoy blocking out that constructive discourse from your life. I'm sure it won't help at all. If you change your mind, we'll be here.
I think you may be jumping to conclusions dline. Bear-man will come and clarify this for us, I'm sure.
That's the risk we take on a thread like this. Alienating people, whether their reasons for feeling alienated are justified or not. It's why people avoid talking politics in many forums of their life, online and off.
No problem. Just let me know beforehand what you want to post an opinion on and I’ll let you know what your opinion should be. We will always agree.
Well said BWW If they were immigrants seeking asylum here they would say "Why don't they stay in their countries and change it" Here they say "if you don't like it leave" See the difference? If someone says Black Lives Matter their response to that is "No All Lives Matter" but in reality, all lives matter up to the point of either wearing a facemask or not. So who's is full of shit? If something doesn't fit in their tiny narrowminded judgemental little box the chorus of Karen's start singing.
Relax Karen and put that damn mask on and please stand 1.829 meters back. I agree that is exactly what's happening in Congress. There is no middle ground it's all or nothing. Bills waiting in the Senate passed by the House don't get introduced and therefore no discussion.
Damn right. We are dog sitting a Lab and she's pretty awesome, but we've been a Great Dane family for quite a while. Dogs are awesome.
Hope you're not bowing out permanently man, you would be missed. And personally i always enjoyed your sandwich reports from the kid's hockey games. I totally agree man. We should prob have been talking about these things in a different area of the site. Its baby's fault.
Here's the thing. I hold the title of moderator here, which I know fills all of you with respect, awe and admiration. There is a constant influx of Thank You notes dropping into my mailbox daily. The gifts that arrive (usually anonymously) hold a special place in my heart. But, my dear fellows, the truth is my title is pretty empty. I just wanted to create a little discussion here on our board. Some people prefer to visit this site/board for only sports-related discussion which is fine but there is a small percentage of people not unhappy to discuss a variety of topics outside of the sports arena. We have alienated a lot of people from our board going back over the years. I get the angry messages and try to placate these members but we are a rough bunch in here, there is no doubt in my mind. A couple of years ago I personally had a run in with a member who has been on this site a long time and I mistook him for a troll. Because of my words this gentleman no longer frequents our board and stays firmly ensconced on different non-Bear boards. I own that. We have done some damage here at the site, knowingly or not. I know for a fact that if I wasn't a Bears fan I wouldn't dare read/reply on our board because you guys are pretty aggressive with non Bearians at times. With all of Tim's efforts to bring more members into the site I think it's too bad that some people can't take the heat that comes out of the Bears' kitchen. I think if you're going to show an opposing opinion to whatever topic is being discussed you need to have the power and strength of your convictions and defend your opinion to the best of your ability without getting mad at others. Someone mentioned earlier that if we never had disagreements we wouldn't be having much of a discussion. I agree wholeheartedly with that. And believe me, I know how hard it can be to stand your ground when it appears that everyone else is attacking you. You just have to firmly believe in your own words and stand up to the opposition. Just because 10 people disagree with 1 person doesn't make that 1 person wrong. I still want to see the manager please ...
That's the problem as dline alluded to communication, both sides point their fingers standing up against the proverbial line in the sand, everyone is shouting, but no one is listening. I'm been far wrong more on here when discussing the Bears than I've been right, but sometimes when you approach a problem from a different perspective and it shines a light on something you failed to even consider. If one continues to take criticism as a negative they shouldn't, it should always be taken as a positive as it can alter your position or it can make it stronger. Some of my closest friends have political beliefs different from mine, life is so much more than politics and those very same friends I would stand behind in a heartbeat. People take life too seriously life is for living so enjoy the fuck out of it. So now I have to go play security for a motorcycle run today for the organization. We are doing it at the Forgotten Warrior Memorial in Channahon State Park for like 100 bikers lol I told them I couldn't think of a worse possible choice but here I go. lol
I sure hope you're going to wear your mask and bring hand sanitizer tuna!! These kinds of gatherings are a big part of the reason why Covid keeps growing in the States!
Have mask will travel. I don't have a problem wearing it. I'm particularly careful about getting too close to people and maintaining my distance. We are having a class out there as well so it should be fun.
I'm so glad that you're careful. I'm still stunned at the pictures I've seen of people at the beach or at large parties. Have fun tuna!
