Bears sign a kicker who went 20 of 25 from 2 yard XP's from University of Nevada named Ramiz Ahmed. Another kicking competition or generosity?

They also sign former Packers 2nd rounder OL Jason Spriggs. I recall the bears wanting him a few years ago, Packers traded up to take him and Pace took Whitehair some few picks later. Spriggs hasn't been on the field since he played 2 games in 2018. Was hurt/on IR in 2017 and 2019.

They also resigned Rashad Coward and JP Holtz to 1 year deals.

Age? That's such a cop out. Marshall's career and success didn't end when he left the bears. He had just under 2300 yards in 2 years (including 1500 yards his first year) with the Jets after his time here before he wore out his welcome in New York before going to the other NY team.

Marshall's first 2 years hear were electric, better than Allen Robinson's first two here with pass happy offensive coaches. Robinson is likely to get extended, and while being 27 as opposed to 31 helps to get the big contract, good WRs still get paid at 31 or after. Marshall got a 4 year deal from the Bears in 2014 when he was 30 (before being traded to the jets in 2015).

I guess this is one of the aspects I don't understand about sports or being a Chicago fan. Jay's being held to an entirely different standard because he didn't look, waddle, or quack like a duck the way fans expect whereas Marshall was a straight up clown. A very talented clown, nonetheless. I get being a QB and what he got paid at the time is a big factor, because if you're gonna pay that much money to a QB (at the time I believe Jay was the highest paid QB before Cinci gave Dalton more a year or two later), you need results, and he certainly didn't live to expectations many of us had. I'm not defending that--and wouldn't be objective if I ignored that. That's a big part of the reason he's statistically the best QB in this franchise's sad history of QBs and people hate him/wont acknowledge it. That's how much he didn't get done/get better.

I saw the same with Derrick Rose at his time's end in Chicago a few years back. Dude and his dipshit bro/posse shat on the team, complained, bitched, blamed others, #returned a bunch of times, and milked his injuries but because fans hated GarPax so much, they let the antics and stupidity go, team trying to win be damned. Saw the same with Jimmy Butler. Dude was a lockerroom cancer and asshole, shitting on the team, coach, friends, teammates, and couldn't play well with others--then he gets dealt but because again--GarPax mixed with Fred Hoiberg being a silent beta--fans let his BS go.

To say Marshall 'wanted to win' more than Jay, when Marshall has a career's history of complaining and blaming others when things don't go his way, while the other guy was quiet/still showed up to play? All because the latter wasn't a giddy sidelines cheerleader or was shown jawing at teammates on the sidelines? I need help understanding that one.

Or am I the only fan who doesn't require the TV/highlight reel sideline moment interpreted as "firing up a team" as a precursor to ignore some blatant, ugly flaws?

Per Brad Biggs, Burton will be a post-June 1st cut. Bears will eat 4 mil guaranteed to Burton/dead money for this upcoming season, will save 2.8 million, and eat 1 and change mil of dead money in 2021.

Like this move. Don't like what's left at TE, but this dude can't stay on the field.

Does anyone know what exactly pat is arguing here? Is it just that Marshall was a POS and he doesn't like him? Cool, noted and filed alongside his inexplicable Forte hate from day 1 and enduring infatuation with Shitwad.

    Moving on.....

I like both of these moves. Two players who basically got completely thrown in at the deep end last year, asked to play in very unfamiliar roles and get it done. I was more impressed with Holtz of the two, but Coward had by far the tougher gig being a starting RG.

So keep both around. Get Holtz more PT by running the ball more and let Coward sit for a year and see if he can improve and grow into the position.

Newsflash for Patg: NFL teams place higher value on productive players who under the age of 30 than those who are over 30.

As far as that being the only reason Marshall was traded? No, I'm not saying that. There was big elephant in the room, i.e. that falling out he had with Cutler. They were not going to coexist in the lockerroom for another season. Jay had more guaranteed money left on his deal after 2014 and for that the team wasn't ready to part ways with him.

He was justifiably held to a higher standard because of how much we gave up to get him, how much effort was made to surround him with weapons, and of course how much money we paid him. This is the same standard that fans of any other NFL team would hold their QB to if their team invested as much as we invested in Jay. His on-field performance obviously was a disappointment and frankly he did or said nothing off the field to change the perception that he didn't care. If anything he relished that reputation. Looking around at successful QBs around the league and it's clear what their motivation and desire is. It was never clear that Jay's motivation was winning and being the best QB.

As for your assessment of the D-Rose situation, I'm 100% with you there. I even remember posting a thread on this board (or maybe back when we were at CBS) complaining about and being baffled by the pass D-Rose was getting from Chicago fans, in contrast to the ripping Cutler took after "quitting" the NFC Championship game.

To the topic of the thread, good riddance to Trey Burton. Addition by subtraction there.

Now if only Pace hadn't shot his wad over Jimmy Graham...

I second that on Burton (speaking of head cases??)

You know what’s really sad though? Tell me “C” wouldn’t be the most popular pick here.

Going into 2020, who would you want at QB?

    a) Trubisky
    b) Foles
    c) Cutler
    d) draft pick

Bears signed Ted Ginn Jr at receiver and Tashaun Gibson at safety

    Gibson likely starts.

Bears also declined Bitch Trubisky's 5th year. So....yay.

I was reading an article wherein NFL agents were interviewed, and talked about the things that surprised them the most. Jimmy Graham getting a 2 yr / $16mil deal was one of them, unsurprisingly. "Did they watch his tape? No one else was going to give him this kind of money. I couldn't believe it".

Ryan Pace has to be fired if this season goes poorly. Right? RIGHT?

What if Da Bears go 10-6 dline ???..........what then.

10-6 with no postseason success? That's "Going poorly". That's all that matters at this point.

I agree, Pace has been given more than enough time, we are now firmly into bottom line territory here. At least thats how i see it, the McFuckskey's are usually different. 10wins may be enough to save his punk ass job, but there's a couple of factors working against him also.

10 wins wasn't enough to save Lovie in 2009 and he'd been a hell of a lot more successful in his job overall than the lord of rebuilds has. True one is a GM and the other was a HC, but even this clown car ownership reaches a make or break point. It usually coincides with contracts admittedly but that only brings me to point 2. Pace's deal is up after the 2021 season. I always said unless the team only won like 2 games last year Pace wasn't getting fired cos ownership hates eating 2years of contracts(hello John Fux).

After this season Pace has only one year left, they'll eat that if they have to. Making the playoffs once in 5seasons looks bad. Having 1 winning record in 5 seasons looks worse. Pace needs a big year, even with 10wins if they don't make the playoffs then i say fuckim.

Fire Pace...hire someone new. Fire Nagy...hire someone new.

    See the same results.

    Because you can't fire ownership.

There was a reddit thread that said "McCaskey Appreciation thread". I damn near lost it. While I don't necessarily *hate* George, he is two things:
    1. A bears fan
    2. Incapable of running a successful football franchise

The franchise hasn't been right since Papa Bear passed on. I don't think the death of Virginia will turn the tide either.

I also this offseason am really turning on Pace. Trubs vs. Mahomes is such a fuck up. You can say not to blame him, he couldn't have known, 9 other teams passed on him, he wouldn't be successful here, yadda yadda. The fact of the matter is, a GM is graded on his ability to get talent. Mahomes is a *generational* talent, and our genius traded UP for Trubisky, who will likely be holding a clipboard in 2021. Whether or not you or I would pick him is irrelevant. The GM has to make the right decisions particularly at the most important position in the game. That one was a fuckup which will haunt this team for some time to come unless Trubs has a miracle turnaround, which I have all but given up hope on.
