Here's one for you, @Vancouver Volcanos . . . Name the 1st major city (population > 300K) south of Detroit, Michigan.
Toledo would have actually been my first choice but just checked and they are under 300K. Have been to Windsor many times...great place.
I actually don’t know the answer but I’ve heard that it was originally a slang term for Dutch Canadians. Also have heard it’s derived from the Inuit word for Man which I believe is Anuk or Inuk. But I don’t know the actual answer.
In hockey locker rooms, it’s well known that it’s an abbreviation for Canadians suck. Now, before I get dogged on let me point out that it’s a joke based on the idea that them Canucks invented the game that we loved to play more than anything in the world and the highest form of respect you can get from a player/fan is to have them affectionately rag on you. And my personal opinion on the Canucks as a franchise is that they are still the holder for the trophy for the greatest damn uniform in all of sports.
Best uni ever in the history of sports and clothing belongs to the Chicago Blackhawks and if you disagree....fuck you.
But I don’t know the actual answer. The Derogatory Slang Canuck came from the War of 1812...... The Native Indians in Lower Canada joined forces with the British to fight the Americans......and defeat them. The American Soldiers coined the phrase "Canuck" because they were such good fighters. And my personal opinion on the Canucks as a franchise is that they are still the holder for the trophy for the greatest damn uniform in all of sports. Ugliest uniform ever....and don't forget the Vancouver Canucks have changed their LOGO 5 times in the history of the team. Look at that uni........the Skate on the LOGO is pointed DOWN.....WTF is that about ???....the FIRST LOGO was still the Best and they should have never changed it. Kind of like the Habs......Leafs.....Red Wings......and yes the Blackhawks.
Good question Lyman........I screwed up........I saw 300 K and was thinking Metric distance not Population. I did not read the question correctly.........lol
Chicago's alternate is up there on my list of favorite hockey jerseys. Probably makes my top 5 if I were to ever put one together. This is another one that would probably make my top 5.
Blackhawks in red Mapleleafs in white Sabres from the 80s in white The black uni the Bruins wore in 2016 without the spoked B And the Nordiques uni pictured above That’s my top 5
Top 5 Uni's...... 1) Canucks original Logo......a Hockey Stick in an arena with the shape of a C......Brilliant. 2) Detroit Red Wings 3) Quebec Nordiques 4) Chicago Blackhawks 5) Toronto Maple Leafs.......
