Yea we got it for moving down 3 spots in the 2nd. I think it's great we were able to trade down and add a few pieces and still got the guys we wanted. I'm fine with adding a 3rd rounder next year for moving down 14 spots in the 3rd round this year.

If I were to grade the Browns' off season - I would give Andrew Berry a D.

The only reason it's not an F is he did manage to draft one of the top tackles in the draft and a decent safety. After that, a complete waste.

Is it all because of the LB position Lym? This is a serious question by the way. Dropping a D deserves more enlightenment.

Where to start. How about at the beginning ?
    • Through no fault of Berry, picks 5-10 and 6-9 were sent to Buffalo (along with a 2021 7th rounder) by John Dorsey for OG Wyatt Teller. Granted, this was done by Berry's predecessor, but Berry had to know he had two fewer picks.
    • Berry himself sent pick 7-10 to the Titans for WR Taywan Taylor.
    • He then signs backup DT Andrew Billings and OC Evan Brown as a free agents.
    • Allows both OLB Christian Kirksey and ILB Joe Schobert to walk in free agency and only signs ILB B.J. Goodson as a replacement. I consider this a down grade.
    • Allows Damarious Randle, S to walk in free agency and terminates S Morgan Burnett.
    • Signs both Karl Joseph, S and Andrew Sendejo, S in free agency somewhat mitigating the need for drafting a Safety he himself created. He then spends a high 2nd round pick - - - on a Safety.
    • And, in moving down two spots to get that Safety, he picks up a 5th round pick which he used to draft another backup Center.
    • He then moves down 14 spots in a trade with the Saints. He gave up picks 3-10 and 7-30 to get pick 3-24 and a 2021 3rd round pick and the uses 3-24 to draft another backup DT.
    • Meanwhile, he has David Njoku on the roster, signs TE free agent Austin Hooper and then drafts TE Harrison Bryant. Even after drafting LB Jacob Philips, he now has more TE's on the roster (5) than OLB's (4).
So ya, a D. If he hadn't signed Conklin and drafted Wills - it would be an F.

If the off season is supposed to be used to improve your team, every team in the AFC North did that (including the Bengals) except for the Cleveland Browns.

You don't know Lym. That's the bottom line. I don't know, and you don't know....Why get bent because they didn't do exactly what you wanted? We can study until doomsday, but it doesn't really matter....Every prospect in this draft is just that. Nothing is sure. At the end of the day ya just gotta hope your team got it right.

Don't turn the Browns on blast just yet...Berry and Co. just might know what they are doing.

It doesn't take a savant to read a depth chart.

The last time I looked, the Browns were at or near the top of the league in cap space. And we let our two starting OLB's walk in free agency and then did next to nothing to remedy it.

Are you confident heading into the season with a 2nd year player and a 3rd round rookie as our starting outside linebackers?

Are you saying we didn't take it in the ass with the trade down with the Saints?

Are you saying we needed another tight end and another wide receiver that's not suited for the slot?

Are you saying we needed another backup Center?

Not once in my explanation to Irish did I state the players picked were bad players. I simply stated that the logic behind those picks was flawed and gave my opinion as to why I thought they were flawed. And I will continue to voice my opinion - even if it goes against the grain.

This is how I look at things:
    OFFENSE

    QB: +
    2019 Baker Mayfield, Drew Stanton
2020 Baker Mayfield, Case Keenum (FA)
Marked improvement in backup in 2020

2020 Jedrick Wills Jr (r)., Desmond Harrison
Marked improvement in STARTER in 2020

    Joel Bitonio, Malcolm Pridgeon
    Push

    C: +
    JC Tretter, Austin Corbett

improvement in backup, competition, young gun to get ready for when Tretter

    RG:
    2019 Eric Kush, Wyatt Teller
2020 Eric Kush, Wyatt Teller, Drew Forbes
    Push

    RT: +++++
    2019 Chris Hubbard, Justin McCray
2020 Jack Conklin (FA), Chris Hubbard, Kendall Lamb
Marked improvement in STARTER in 2020

    TE: ++++

2019 Nick Chubb, Dontrell Hilliard, D'Ernest Johnson, Kareem Hunt (half of year)
2020 Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt (full year), Dontrell Hilliard, D'Ernest Johnson
I'm giving this one push, as the off season wasn't what improved this group, Hunt's availability did

    FB: ++++
    2019 NONE
    2020 Andy Janovich
Not only did we add FB, we signed one of the best in the league

    WR:

2020 Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Taywan Taylor, Antonio Callaway, Damion Ratley, KhaDarel Hodge, Jojo Natson (FA), Donovan Peoples-Jones (r)
Push on off season, improvement if OBJ and Landry are healthy after their respective surgeries.

Overall on offense, NO regression, Improvement in 6 of the 10 positions

A+ in offseason improvement on offense

    DEFENSE

    LDE:
    2019 Myles Garrett, Chad Thomas
2020 Myles Garrett, Chad Thomas, Robert McCray, Porter Gustin
    Push

    DT: ++
2019 Larry Ogunjobi, Sheldon Richardson, Daniel Equale, Chris Smith

    Marked improvement in backups/rotational guys

    RDE:
    2019 Olivier Vernon, Chris Smith
    2020 Olivier Vernon, Adrian Clayborn
improvement in backup, but not enough to mark it up..I'll go push here

    SAM: -
    2019 Adarius Taylor, Willie Harvey
2020 Jacob Phillips (r), Willie Harvey, Trevon Young
Too early to tell, I'm going push here... you can go digression if you choose since you are looking to a 3rd round Rookie..I'll give it one neg based on that alone

    MLB: ---
    2019 Joe Schobert, Sione Takitaki
2020 Sione Takitaki, BJ Goodson, Tae Davis
Big fan of Joe, but reality is, we don't know what we have in Takitaki, he looked pretty good in his short amount of playing time. But, I feel the known with Joe is a big loss

    Will:
    2019 Mack Wilson, Malik Jefferson
    2020 Mack Wilson, Jermaine Grace
    Push

    CB:
2019 Denzel Ward, Greedy Williams, TJ Carrie, Terrance Mitchell
2020 Denzel Ward, Greedy Williams, Terrance Mitchell, Donnite Lewis Jr., Kevin Johnson
    Push

    SS: +
2019 Morgan Burnett (was hurt by mid-season), Jermaine Whitehead
2020 Karl Joseph (FA), JT Hassell, Montrel Meander
This is a little tough to call, but I believe Joseph is an improvement over an aging Burnett

    FS: -
2019 Damarious Randall, Eric Murray, Sheldrick Redwine
2020 Grant Delpit (r), Andrew Sandejo (FA), Sheldrick Redwine
Personlly, I believe Delpit will be an improvement, however, as a rookie, I think Randall will be missed. Short term, this is a negative. Long term, I believe we will be happy

3 pluses over 3 two positions, 5 negatives over 3 positions and 4 pushes on positions
Overall I would give the defense a C at this point, but Delpit/Joseph/Phillips and Elliot give this defense a chance to actually make an improvement. Whether big or small, this will make the difference in grade this offseason.

No way has this been a D effort. Despite some question marks in the middle of the draft. You are talking about 3rd and 4th round draft picks. The move down in the second, we would have ended with Delpit no matter what, so in reality you only gained a backup center. The other move in the 3rd is the more questionable imho. You could have walked away with Delpit and Zach Baun. Instead you get Delpit and Jacob Philips (and another pick in the 2020 3rd round). I loved what Baun brought to the table, so this to me is a pretty major fuck up... But we really won't know for a few years.

Overall right now, with the unknowns in play, this off season has been a solid B... the unknown factors on defense could push it to an A or C.

Off season isn't over Lym. I think you are mostly upset over them passing on a couple of mid round LBers... I was too. BUT, that doesn't take away from what the DID do this off season.

We could still make a play for someone like Jadeveon Clowney with that extra cap space.. Although, that cap space will come in handy as some of the current players begin coming off their rookie deals.

Browns REALLY wanted CB, AJ Green from Oklahoma State. Signed him to a free agent deal that included $145,000 guaranteed...Also, Solomon Ajayi, LB from Liberty got $60,000 guaranteed.

    Here's a suggestion.

Clay Mathews is still a free agent.

It would be cool to see him in a Browns uni....

I wonder if we are still in the Clowney hunt?

This is where I admittedly get confused.

Mathews is (and has been?) a 3-4 OLB.
Clowney is an EDGE (3-4 OLB ?).

Can either of these guys play a 4-3 OLB?

If I needed a mentor in the LB room, I would probably choose Mathews.
