Can, but I’m repeating myself. Doubt it takes that long. And I was thinking about it, other than Rodgers himself, who was the last QB drafted to be “The Guy” who got 2 or more years of seasoning? I can’t think of anyone.
That's true, but I think Love is a unique case in a unique situation. No one in Green Bay is going to be looking to push Aaron out the door until that dead cap number hits the floor, which would be the final year of his contract. That will be four years from now, which creates a great window to groom a quarterback to be your next franchise guy. It minimizes the risk of failure for Jordon (and the management) and creates a situation where if he fails the front office can easily sell the truth. They gave him every chance to succeed and in the end he wasn't up to the task.
I feel like this entire draft class is sneaky good throughout, but it has some obvious deficiencies like the talent gap from the top tier DL to the bottom and the lack of rock solid talent at TE.
Sure. But between Nyb’s point that it can be a huge benefit having your starter on a rookie contract, and Joe’s point that 36/37 year old Rodgers hasn’t been quite the same as sub 35 Rodgers, I’m still not buying the wait. It’s tough to eat a big cap penalty, but in pro sports today more acceptable than ever. I guess rounds 2-3 today might give us more clues. But I’m not expecting Rodgers age 40 season to happen in GB
Which would put us in agreement then, because Rodgers will be 40 for that last year of his contract. The fans are going to want Aaron as long as possible. Management will give him the benefit of the doubt until it becomes more economically viable for him to be removed from the roster. Plus, unless Jordon comes in due to injury the opportunities to show that he is clearly better than Rodgers to lead the franchise will be virtually non-existent. You could be dead on the money, but I believe the Packers are simply preparing for when their future Hall of Fame, Super bowl winning, franchise quarterback either decides to retire or no longer represents a sound financial investment.
This could be like Tom Brady all over again, just with a bit more draft capital. How many successors did he get to fuck off again?
Just my observation, but Brian Gutekunst was under pressure to find the next 'guy', a replacement for the aging Rodgers. I think he thought he'd rather pick now, than gamble on the future and Rodgers health. Im not real sure, as previously mentioned, Rodgers is capable of lasting a whole season as he seems to be a bit more brittle with age, lol. IF, Rodgers puts it in cruse control and eludes injury, Love , if his head is screwed on straight will benefit from the tuteledge under Rodgers. Bottom line , in my opinion is; the Packers have invested in the future and have turned the page from the QB position. Theymust have seen more in Love than a Jalen Hurts type.

Eh, I don't think that's a good comparison. The better one, interestingly enough, would actually be Aaron Rodgers.
As much as the Eagles love their DEs, I don't want one today. I could live with one round 3 but today I want to see almost anything else.
Oh I agree. I think we all brought that up yesterday. I just threw up another scenario that could happen.
I just also think if your plan is to let Aaron play until he doesn’t want to, why spend a first round pick this early on a quarterback? You could take your top rated receiver, or linebacker, and take your next favourite QB on day two. You spend that much capital to get them in round one and I just can’t buy into a 4 year plan. In today’s NFL that could get your head coach and GM fired before the guy ever plays. Just my take. Really only time (or a great Gutekunst interview) will settle this for us
History can be a powerful influence, especially in a place like Green Bay. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I think it's far from a lock that Aaron Rodgers is going to get chucked to the curb for JordAn Love by his third season.
