Because I knew nobody would have agreed with me. We had Ben and I might have been run by Steelers fans for saying that.
Because I knew nobody would have agreed with me. We had Ben and I might have been run by Steelers fans for saying that. I have to support my players. Mahomes is a Chief not a Steeler. Mahomes had a video before the draft of him hitting a WR in stride with 80 air yards down field. If I posted that as the reason I wanted Mahomes people would have sent the white van to my house to take me to the asylum. So I just kept it to myself. That was the only scouting I did of Mahomes and no one would think I was sane if I said that.
LMAO! Nice work. Is anyone really surprised though? That should end the shit-talk parade, but somehow I doubt it will.
Half the Steelers fans have been calling for "Big Dummy's" head for years. Including you. Okay. But then, if you were so high on Mahomes, why is it you had Garapolo and Wentz ranked higher just last year ??? Caution: Last year meant you had the benefit of seeing what he is capable of for (then) two years. And before you bullshit your way out and say he was injured last year, Wentz gets injured every year.
I do a hell of a lot of tongue in cheek post. I really did like Mahomes before the draft. I don’t know why I didn’t post anything about it. I didn’t think he would be as good as he is, but I couldn’t get the thought of him hitting AB and other Steelers receivers in stride 50-80 yards down field. I’m a fool for the long pass and nobody throws a sweeter long ball than Mahomes
Let's try to get this thing back on track. As of this posting, we're about 15 hours away from the show... My Browns Mock Draft 1.1 | One Day Out This will be the second-to-last in the installment. No trickery or anything like that this time (opposed to Versions 2.0 - Trade Down and 3.0 - Trade Up). Going to take what we're seeing/hearing (with a grain of salt) and apply what I think the Browns will actually do this weekend. As a reminder, here's some projected first nine picks... 1.1 Cincinnati Bengals: Joe Burrow, QB Louisiana State. Duh. 1.2 Washington Redskins: Chase Young, EDGE Ohio State. They'll listen to offers, but ultimately wouldn't move out. 1.3 Los Angeles Chargers (f/Detroit): Tua Tagovailoa, QB Alabama. Chargers can't be "all-in" on Tyrod. Pay the price to jump Miami and get their guy. 1.4 New York Giants: Jedrick Wills, OT Alabama. Although I'd personally put Isaiah Simmons here, tea leave are saying NY goes OT and specifically, Wills. 1.5 Miami Dolphins: Tristian Wirfs, OT Iowa. They'd like Tua but don't get him. Add a safe pick and start the rebuild. 1.6 Detroit Lions (f/Los Angeles): Jeff Okudah, CB Ohio State. Detroit gets to move back and get the player they would have taken at #3. 1.7 Carolina Panthers: Derrick Brown, IDL Auburn. An awful Combine shouldn't ruin elite tape. 1.8 Atlanta Falcons (f/Arizona): Isaiah Simmons, S/LB. Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski twice a season? Better stock up on guys who can thwart that. 1.9 Jacksonville Jaguars: C.J. Henderson, CB Florida. There's enough Top 10 buzz for Henderson for me to buy. 1.10 Cleveland Browns: Andrew Thomas, OT Georgia. Browns get their guy in Thomas who's the best all-around tackle in this year's class. He's got good feet, plays in a zone blocking system, and has previous experience with Nick Chubb. I put this one in pen after my earlier post talking about Chris Hubbard possibly getting the start at left tackle after losing the right guard battle. There's no way they can pass on a tackle here - analytics tenets be damned - and playing the "trade down" game to get Ezra Cleveland is risky. Plus, Thomas is Better Than Ezra. Previously: C.J. Henderson, CB Florida 1.31 Cleveland Browns (f/San Francisco): Grant Delpit, FS Louisiana State. Much like 2017 when we moved up to get Jabrill Peppers, we're moving back into the first round to get a safety who out-performed fellow LSU Tiger and Top 10 pick Jamal Adams during their time there. A foot injury in 2019 limited his impact plays, but Delpit is a legit talent and his slide/demise may prove to be greatly over-blown when the dust settles Thursday night. Browns give up #41 and #97 to a San Fran team that currently lacks picks in the second and third rounds. Delpit gives the Browns elite speed at the range safety spot and fills in for the departed Damarious Randall. Previously: none 3.74 Cleveland Browns: Malik Harrison, LB Ohio State. Browns can grab a player in Harrison with experience at all three linebacker spots - none of which they're probably 100% sold on. He's got the size (6'3" 247 pounds), and range to play any spot, but likely fits inside or at strong - both serious needs. He's a downhill type linebacker who can help out in the running game (one of the knocks on the departed Joe Schobert) and, like all Urban Meyer players, has special team experience to help contribute early and often. Previously: Kyle Dugger, FS Lenoir-Rhyne 4.115 Cleveland Browns: Shane Lemieux, OG Oregon A 52-game starter at left guard who could join the right guard preseason battle between Wyatt Teller and (conceivably) Chris Hubbard. I don't watch much lineman tape (it's boring and I don't know enough to know what's good), but they say he's a great road grader at the position who offers great power. I can see him eventually taking over next to free agent Jack Conklin and making a dominant right side to the line. Previously: K.J. Hill, WR Ohio State 6.187 Cleveland Browns (f/Arizona): Colby Parkinson, TE/WR Stanford Labeled as a tight end due to size (6'7" 252 pounds), he's more of a utility receiver who helps provide match-up problems for a defense. Browns add a red zone target here who isn't a starter but offers a lot of upside in packages. With their base offense of Beckham, Landry, Hooper, Njoku, and Chubb - there isn't a lot of need for extra bodies, so this is a luxury pick to be used in Stefanski's offense to create mismatches. Previously: Khalil Davis, IDL Nebraska 7.244 Cleveland Browns (f/Green Bay): Joe Reed, WR/ST Virginia I liked this pick from the 3.0 version (trade up) and decided to keep it. Browns desperately need special teams talent and Reed checks that box. He's got good size (6'0" 224 pounds), although at wide receiver he's probably limited to slot duty. He's got the talent and resume to fill the PR/KR duties. Previously: Malcolm Roach, EDGE Texas
^^^^^ 1. Confirmed: New York is going offensive tackle, and the smart money is Wills. 2. Confirmed: Dolphins reported "love" for Justin Herbert is probably real - and they can get him in the 20's because he's garbo. 3. Confirmed: Tua Tagovailoa is just a guy (JAG) and if he doesn't go to #5, could slide. That said... Dolphins don't have to move up from #5. With #18, #26, and two seconds (#39 and #56), they could get there and still keep #5. #18, #26, #56 plus a player or future pick could get them to #3. They'd have #3, #5, #39, and #70 in the Top 75. #SashiBall
Holy excuses, Batman. I know that SAS is as big a homer as Gidion, but man... that's some fine dodging going on, there. For example, saying that Hue was determined to get Watson at #1, but didn't want Mahomes because his size didn't fit the prototype - odd, considering they're the same size. Teams miss. GM's miss. Sashi missed a TON. Passing on both Mahomes and Watson... well, Sashi earned his firing. A sensible fan owns up to it (see: Bears fans wanting Pace driven out of town). Best of luck to Cleveland, this year. I'm tired of the regime changes, but still hoping they get it right, as always.
I mean, if you're gonna call out Gidion... he's not the only fan frequenting the Browns boards who does this (not you, Lyman)...
Probably not unrealistic to think that CLE and WAS have had the discussion about Trent Williams. The current rumor (from WAS reporters) is a 2021 second and a 2020 third or fourth. The 2021 pick would have to be a conditional one, I would think. My guess is (if true) that there's an agreement between the two teams that if Cleveland's preferred tackle - and I'm guessing that's Andrew Thomas - isn't on the board at #10, they'll go ahead and make the Williams deal official. They'd then have the flexibility to trade back from #10 to a team like Denver or Oakland to let them get their targeted wide receiver. Oakland is rumored to be in talks with Jacksonville for Yannick Ngakoue and while it's not impossible to see them move #19 for him and move up from #12, that seems like a lot of wheeling and dealing. We're in the final hours, so it's always silliest before the start, but it does sound like the tackle run could be real and if Tua gets passed over at #5 and #6, those are two landing spots for tackles right there. Cleveland has a chance to address LT via trade and EDGE (sign free agent Jadeveon Clowney) and still keep the majority of their war chest in tact. Should be an exciting weekend.
Agreed! Kudos to @SAS, @TD and @Lym for all the effort put into your prognostications regarding this years draft! That said, here we again it's draft day and admittedly I have not been very excited about this years draft. Mostly because I'm still nauseated with how last season ended. Broken record syndrome As much as we all know that the Browns need to a LT I'm not buying into the Williams Hype. Given his age and injury history He's not worth a top 10 pick. The top 4 Tackles in this draft has his own coach-able weaknesses and all 4 are likely day one starters, regardless of which team drafts them. That said, Wirfs, Bechton, Thomas, and Wills may be off the board by 10. In that case I could easily see the Browns trading down to a team that covets one of the top WR or a fast falling QB. Also luck could be with the Browns and a guy like Simmons or Brown could be staring them in the face. At that point I would hope that Berry pulls the trigger and doesn't look back. I'm still not sold on the trade Rumors for Williams. Even if he negotiates a team friendly contract I's rather have one of the top LT's in this draft. I don't think Berry is going to get cute with how he handles this draft. I'm looking forward to a solid draft that fills gaps and adds depth. Stay safe everyone.
Agreed 100%. I think the rumors are completely true though and I have to think it's Berry doing his due diligence and perhaps laying the framework for a trade if their LT is gone by their pick. A thing to keep in mind is that Jedrick Wills and Tristin Wirfs are exclusively right tackles. Mekhi Becton could be a left tackle, but he's a 370 pound mountain (not a good fit in a quick, zone blocking scheme) who couldn't be bothered to stop smoking pot long enough for the Combine. Weed isn't as big of a deal as it once was, but it does show a lack of awareness and a larger concern of effort -- his weight could easily get out of hand. Andrew Thomas is this year's best all-around tackle and the best LT for a team looking at adding a plug-and-play starter. Josh Jones and Ezra Cleveland are getting love but they are more developmental in nature from what it sounds like - lower floor, higher ceiling. If Thomas is gone, and I think we can compete for the AFC North tomorrow, gimme a guy who can do it like Williams for the right price.
