Then they better hope and pray that Jack Conklin can successfully make the move to LT. Because neither Ezra or Austin are close to being a day one starter at LT in the NFL. And then you're stuck with Chris Hubbard at RT again.
I’m not so sure. Quite a few teams I think are looking at Ezra near the back of the first and I see enough potential with him that while he won’t be a top-five left tackle year one, he might be serviceable.
I believe Conklin played every position at the line in college although his best was certainly guard and it was his mauling there than made him my favourite OL prospect I have ever scouted. He was arguably the best tackle in football his rookie year and then took a step back. I kind of wish he'd go back to guard as I think he could be a generational player there. But tackles are a premium and once you are one you don't move inside often once you've gotten a job outside.
As opposed to LT? Often times it's just the position they are slotted into and it has nothing to do with level of competition on one edge or the other and more just the difference of mirroring your technique. Many RTs face tougher opposition than LTs nowadays. In today's NFL little by little you are seeing less players move from RT to LT once the original LT moves on and instead stay where they are comfortable and just replace the other spot. It's a different philosophy. Browns may wait until after the draft to see where they put him.
CLEVELAND BROWNS 1.10 Mecki Becton, OT - Louisville 2.10 Malik Harrison, LB - Ohio State 3.5 Ashtyn Davis, FS - California 3.33 Davon Hamilton, DT - Ohio State 4.9 Logan Stenberg, G - Kentucky 5.19 Josh Metellus, SS - Michigan 6.8 Kindle Vildor, CB - Georgia Southern That's a wrap for Cleveland. As mentioned earlier, it was tense at times, but I really like how this fell for the Browns, assuming I'm not looking at too much trouble for Becton. Offensive line was a no-brainer, and with what we did in free agency (Conklin), I think Becton and Stenberg can fit perfectly. Another main goal was to beef up the run defense. It's been atrocious ever since we came back into the league.Love getting the Buckeye combo in there. Harrison and Hamilton as well as the addition of Metellus should go a long way in helping our run defense. In this division, you can't survive if you can't stop the run....And then another must was a rangy FS, and I was fortunate to get Davis....Kindle Vildor was a bonus. I had a 4th rd grade on him. Plus he has a really cool name. Sounds like a Game of Thrones character.
Which is why you really need two LT's on your roster. Moving one from RT to LT only solves half of the problem.
I’m going to have to disagree. Outside of TJ Watt, and your own defenders which you don’t have to block, I would argue that division might have the worst pass rushers in the entire NFL. Outside of Watt and Garrett who is actually intimidating in that division?
The concept of an LT is vastly overrated in today's game. Award voting almost always only picks LTs as well despite some of the best RTs seeing the best rushers in the game every snap.
There is a good chance that soon you won't see me on again until tonight. Although I might check on every once in a while.
Don’t get me wrong, if I’m calling the shots there I’d take Wills or Thomas @10 I’m just saying Ezra might not be a doomsday scenario, especially if they get some good value/assets back in a trade down.
Wirfs is my #1 tackle and I'd take him even if I was looking for a LT. Here's a funny quote from him: “When I first started flipping back and forth, I think I was trying to look for a big difference,” Wirfs said. “Honestly, the only thing different is you got your other hand down. It just feels awkward at first but once you settle in it feels fine. . . . It kinda feels like wiping your butt with your other hand. It just feels a little awkward at first, but you get used to it.”
Bud Dupree, Heyward, the Steelers don’t play. Over 50 sacks 3 dtraight seasons. With Watt and Dupree Still have lots of room to grow. You want a good tackle on both sides just to keep your QB alive.
