That was my thoughts too. The mid major teams have small school kids go their pro days and help boost their stock. Guys like Chinn probably would have gone to either Illinois, Missouri, or Indiana’s pro day.
I personally think he goes in the 2nd round. The Steelers aren’t investing their top pick this year in a S. It makes no sense with having Fitzpatrick and Edmunds.
We need a safety badly. We only have the two starters that can actually be counted on. Our reserves are only special teams players
However the first round pick needs to be a starter. To invest a first round pick to a dedicated back up, would be a bad move. Especially when you need a shut down CB, Inside LB, or a #2 WR before even thinking safety. Safety would be a 3rd round pick or a 2nd if the right guy is there and the other positions dont have a none reach.
Mink is our first rd pick I’m hoping that we get a RB JK Dobbins or Dillion with our second round pick
Signing Ebron eliminates one of Pittsburgh’s bigger needs. Their going to need to look at OL, EDGE, CB, DE and NT. I actually see RB, WR and ILB as luxury picks for PIT this season. They could use more but they have more pressing issues elsewhere. Wormley probably gets the first crack at the nose but adding more on the DL at both NT and DE wouldn’t surprise me.
The Steelers could do themselves a huge favor by getting a bunch of contract extensions done this off-season: 1. Cam Heyward - one of the best d-linemen in the NFL. Currently counts 13.5M against the cap. An extension could free up 3-4M. 2. Bud Dupree - currently counts 15.8M against the cap. I know some fear the "contract year" phenomenon but I don't think it applies to Bud. The move to the right side plus the ability to stay healthy were key but he was always a worker and always had really good athleticism. Nothing he did in 2019 was fluky. He combined speed and power and he did it against the run and the pass. The only obstacle will be guaranteed money. Does he approach it like Leveon? Or like all his current teammates on 2nd contracts? An extension could free up 3-4M if they feel it is necessary. 3. Mike Hilton - currently counts 3.2M against the cap and might be the most underrated player on the team. Nickle CBs have become massively important in the NFL and the Steelers have a really good one who is only 26 years old. The Colts have possibly the best nickel CB in the NFL and he signed for 4yrs, 33M, 9M guaranteed. A similar deal could be put together for Hilton without the need to increase his 2020 cap number. 4. Matt Feiler - similar to Hilton he is playing on the 3.2M 2nd round tender and like Hilton he could be locked up long term without affecting his 2020 cap number. I want Matt Feiler around for his prime. Don't really care if that is at Guard or Right Tackle. 5. Cam Sutton - it took 3 years for this guy to develop and he is in the final year of his rookie deal. I would take a shot at an extension this summer to be Joe Haden's long term replacement. He was really good in coverage as a sub package defender. 6. Alejandro Villanueva - if he wants to continue to play (he recently completed his Master's at Carnegie Mellon) this should be a fairly easy deal to get done. He is deserving of a pay raise but he's not going to be paid as a top tackle. At 31, he has plenty of gas left in the tank if he wants to continue to play. If the NFL put out a Best Bargain list he would get some consideration at Left Tackle. No, I wouldn't try and extend JuJu this summer. I would take a wait and see approach.
I actually agree with all of what you said. Unfortunately, they will only be able to sign either Sutton or Hilton. They won’t be able to afford both, unless Haden retires.
Obviously hard to know what it would take to sign Cam (a year early). Depends completely on Cam but deals with Heyward and Dupree could create the room.
The Steelers GM Kevin Colbert proposrd a 10 rd draft this season. That would have been great. I believe that the league should go back to more rounds anyway. Too many undrafted players make it every year anyway.
Daniel Jeremiah does. lol! Last night on "Path To The Draft" he listed Jeremy Chinn as his #1 "sleeper" for day 2.
lol, that’s wild to me. I guess if you go off of his basic ranking from the beginning of the college season he probably still looks/feels like a sleeper. But at this point, seeing him ranked in the top 5 of a lot of analysts charts kind of removes the sleeper label, IMO.
Will shared news to me - that the NFL is going to be having a mock draft with all 32 teams. I wonder how that's going to go, whether or not they actually pick players, etc. Because one would think that would be an incredible source of information / mis-information for GM's. I don't think that's ever happened, before, that all 32 GM's came together for a real-time mock draft. I'd have to think they'll just use placeholder players for the mock, right? "Player A, Player B, Player C", etc, so that there's no extra information being manipulated between everyone.
The league probably sent out a list of historic names or just random nonsense that forces teams to accurately point, click, click again and confirm. You have a favorite for the first team to mess it up? lol
