Off Season Needs: how about somebody actually does something with clevelandbrowns.com.

God it couldn't be any less lame. Seriously

I'm happy with the moves we've made. Filled a lot of needs and haven't made many long commitments we'd be stuck with if things didn't work out

Andrew Berry: "We're going to be aggressive."

Everyone: "They don't really mean 'aggressive'."

Browns in a very weird offseason:

Stay healthy, stay safe, y'all. Even you Steelers fans out there.

I mean... I get keeping Olivier Vernon around for depth (we saw what happened last year), but at that price tag? C'mon...

Starters should be Garrett (duh) and Clayborn with Chad Thomas as DE3 in the rotation.

    Re: Vernon

Considering he has $ZERO dead money - the only reason for keeping him I can come up with (financially) is Berry is trying to trade him rather than just release him.

I think I'm seeing some people ready to come around to the idea of hiring Berry?

I would say it's still safely in the honeymoon phase.

Lest we forget, in John Dorsey's first foray here he: traded for Jarvis Landry and extended him, traded for Tyrod "My Guy" Taylor, traded away DeShone Kizer and added Damarious Randall, signed Greg Robinson (who had a career year in 2018), added T.J. Carrie, Terrance Mitchell, and Carlos Hyde. Then drafted Baker Mayfield, Denzel Ward, and Nick Chubb.

Can't really think of a better kick off to being a GM than that.

Then he pissed it all away a mere 12 months later with the botched coaching search, botched trades/signings, and the complete over-stepping of responsibility as he assumed too much power in the organization.

Mr. Berry's had another very good start, in my opinion, by addressing needs and doing it responsibly. How the draft shakes out remains to be seen, in addition to how they build upon the start.

Agreed. Probably waiting to see how the draft shakes out... if they come away with a solid EDGE guy (or two) I think Vernon's future becomes much more in doubt.

    On paper...

    Jarvis Landry = Jack Conklin
    Tyrod Taylor < Adrian Clayborn
    Carlos Hyde < Austin Hooper

... so Berry may be leading in the free agency portion of the competition. Draft will be a big one. He doesn't have the war chest Dorsey inherited (and squandered outside of those three dudes mentioned). I'd rather have an average guy in the fourth and fifth rounds than guys who're no longer on the team or league (Corbett, Callaway, Avery). Minor availability is still able to contribute.

He finds away to bring Isaiah Simmons to Cleveland and we can call the competition early.

Might as well go after Chase Young.

Can you imagine Young and Garrett on the same defensive front?

I feel like this had to have been posted on April Fool's Day, but...

If Washington is truly dumb enough to move out of that spot, I would give up a QB's ransom worth of picks to get Chase Young in Cleveland.

With teams unable to conduct examinations or physicals, I'm not sure how any team takes Tua in the Top 50 selections...

Wonder what the cost would be to get from #12 to #2? If it was two #1's and two #2's, would you pull the trigger?

    Emphatically, yes.

We've seen what happens when you invest heavily in the defensive front and hand the play-calling over to a zone-blocking, Shannahan-disciple mind. San Francisco went to a Super Bowl with significantly less offensive talent than the Browns had in 2014, forget 2020. They flipped from 4-12 to 13-3 in an incredibly tough division. It made below average corners like Richard Sherman relevant again. Adding a weapon like Chase Young to the line with a generation EDGE guy like Garrett would be devastating for 31 other teams.

I agree...Berry should try to make that happen. That's similar to what we got a few years ago from Philly in our move from #2 to#14. Of course then we blew it on Corey Coleman, but that's another story...You are right about that 49ers defense. They just wrecked gameplans with that front.

Some people never thought he should have been shown the door to begin with.

No doubt. Up and coming guy that was supposed to take over eventually, suddenly heads off to Philly with the promise that the Browns will come calling soon?? It's like we knew Dorsey was gonna mess shit up.... Strange how that played out, but I'm not upset with our 32 yr old GM.

    Dysfunctional, but methodical, I guess.

It's a Haslam thing, but imagine if they had all been on the same page since Day 1. Really hoping (wanting to believe) that they are all in lock-step now, but we've had to painfully leap from one step to the next thus far. Rather than a single regime handling things, we've leap-frogged from one group to the next just checking through the "to-do" list for a franchise trying to build itself into a competitor: roster tear-down and asset acquisition (Sashi&Berry), talent acquisition (Dorsey), talent retention (delayed), player development (failed -- abysmal coaches: Hue & Freddie), compete for a chip (in progress - Berry&Stefanski).
