Thanks for making my pick. Dolphins looking to trade 6.6 and 7.32 to get back into the 5th round. Any takers?
I'm not going to rave about Asiasi. He's one of this year's TEs. Hooray! I had said in PMs that I didn't see a need to rush in and take any TE prospects at all in this draft class. You have maybe two or three prospects this year that might stand out a bit from the rest, but there are no clear instant impact guys and something like 15 of them that are roughly equal given a year of development time. That knocks down the urgency to take a TE at all, unless there's one guy who screams system fit for you better than any of the others. There was one guy who stood out a little bit that way for me (Harrison Bryant of FAU, simply because he's a decent blocker), but I decided I'd rather trade down than taking him. This draft seems to reflect that. I'd say a couple of them would grade as second round caliber prospects, but we didn't see the first TE off the board until more than halfway through round three, and I think that was an autopick. In reality, I'd probably just wait until the roster cut deadline and scoop my developmental prospect off the waiver wire. But I figured I'd go ahead and address the position in the draft just to show that I have checked it off the list. Round five is a good time to do that sort of thing.
Just for some fun scouting talk... Last night I was watching tape on another defensive back. One of the magazines I bought says “could be a zone Corner, but has starter potential as a Strong safety who can support the run and...” It was one of those trust yourself moments, because if I just trusted what I read and drafted him to play the run, I’d be sorely disappointed. Dude can’t tackle. It was the first thing I noticed on his tape. Makes you wonder who is the draft expert for some of these draft sources.
Top name on my short list for my next upcoming pick. Should have taken him before the TE. Oh well. No mock is complete until you get sniped by an autopick.
A couple years ago, you taught me a lesson about patience. Yesterday was very frustrating day of drafting. Very few picks came off the board, and though I was trying all day to move up, I just couldn't get it done. Finally lost patience late last night and said, "the hell with it" in regards to trying to move up....Naturally, all that effort was in vain as my target, Davion Taylor, just fell right into my lap....Clearly I needed a refresher on the patience lesson. lol! Sometimes it is best to wait it out, even though if you are wired like me, that's easier said than done...
BTW @Torgo, I like the Asiasi pick...I think you might be downplaying this TE class a bit. There's a few in this draft that I really like.....
Nope. RT autoed Lawrence and I was mistaken in saying he was already picked. So, actually, they reverted back to him as the Auto-pick.
I've got another Vegas pick coming up at 5.27, and 3 name short list. We'll see if patience pays off again.
