Just looked at an NFL article on each team's draft picks. I did a quick count, and the Ravens have 7 picks in the first 150. No team in the league has more than that with only the Broncos and Dolphins having the same amount. That's pretty nice for continuing to grab young talent.

Ravens acquired DE Calais Campbell from the Jaguars in exchange for a 2020 fifth-round pick. He is due 15 mil and 2020 is the final year of his deal. Mr. DeCosta is finalizing an extension of his deal to lower his cap hit for 2020. Either way, we just got the DE we needed as a nice stop gap for a couple seasons till a new young guy can take over at DE. Nice Get Eric! This also opens up the door for the Ravens to trade Judon after placing the tag upon him. I fully believe that Eric will trade Matthew before the draft or on draft day.
The Ravens traded Hurst for a 2 and 5 from Atlanta. As far as a trade goes, that's a damn good deal. As far as return on investment, not so much as we took our first, played him a bit, and traded him for a 2 and 5. It's like depreciation. We still completely botched that pick. It should have been Ridley. *I think we gave up a 4 also.
Looks like we get their early 2nd and early 5th for Hurst and our 4th comp pick. I think we made out pretty well in the deal considering when Hurst is out of his rookie deal, he will be almost 30 so not someone we would have given a long term extension to anyway.
The Texans need to fire their GM. There's no way you trade DeAndre Hopkins and any draft pick for a worn down Duke Johnson and a 2nd
Yeah considering what the Texans got for Hopkins, this Hurst trade is highway robbery. You have to admit that Ozzie is one of the best GMs the NFL has ever seen and a phenomenal evaluator of talent at certain positions. At the same time, over the latter years, I mentioned how the Ravens need to start evolving to stay ahead of the new NFL. Ozzie didn't exactly take that leap, but DeCosta I feel is very much on the cutting edge of how the league is moving. We couldn't ask for a better transition.
Wow the Ravens want nothing to do with any Hursts. Apparently James Hurst was just released. Strange timing with Yanda retiring and all that.
I know people will start worrying about the OL. It's an important position on the team and engine for the offense. At the same time, remember the uncertainty fans had about the line last year? We had no LG until week 1 yet we were dealing away guards to the Jets and Patriots like it was nothing. Despite Skura being the center and Bozeman being the guard, we were more than fine for the entire season and dominated the run game. Point is, the Ravens are really good at developing linemen. We'll get some guys in that can receive some coaching and play some ball.

James Hurst being cut would never make me panic over the oline. Lyman, my mistake. Still, a horrible trade imo
so our d-line now consists of Campbell, Brockers, Williams, Wormley and Daylon Mack and Jihad Ward. I also think the O line is going to be fine as well. Hurst was not a world beater and we knew Yanda was looking to retire so a starting group of Stanley, Bozeman, Mekhari, Powers and Brown is not terrible. I think we will clearly draft depth and perhaps sign a veteran low end deal to shore up our depth chart. We definitely improved the dline pass rush and now just need to look for some OLB talent if we indeed are shopping Judon. I can not imagine the draft we will have if we get multiple picks (2nd and 4th?) for Judon. I would imagine that the club might take a 3rd this season and maybe another 3rd next to spread some of the picks out. We can't draft and expect 10 or 11 guys to make the squad. I imagine if we gather that kind of draft capital we will be moving up significantly to grab a premier rusher/OLB this season. Just a thought.
With the cap space the Ravens have now, I imagine they will certainly be more open to trading Judon. If a team offers a 2, they'll take it even if the Ravens in turn have to give back a late pick (5+). The reason for this is Judon will net a 3rd round comp pick, but we won't even see that until 2022. In fact, just saying that (and due to the cap), they might take a 3 and a 5 for him. It's hard to believe though that Judon would fetch a lower price than Hayden Hurst. Then again, we have the Texans in the NFL and BIll O'Brien clearly has his head up his football ass.
It's interesting that Pierce's deal is the same amount of years but less money than we signed Brockers. We clearly didn't want him back.
We honestly didn't need him back. Playing Brandon Williams at DE (as Haloti Ngata did the last half of his career with the Ravens) was a colossal mistake by our defensive coaching staff. BW isn't fast enough, nor explosive enough to play on the end. he is a NT through and through. I can only hope they are intending on putting him back into the middle and leave him there till they can cut his overpaid butt.
I wholeheartedly agree with this. I think the emphasis this off season was to get guys who played a particular position. I think we identified the people who could be multiple and fill more than one need last season and we also identified the guys who were only good at one thing. Williams is only good at the nose and as stated does not have the skill set to play end. I think this is the issue with our run defense in that Williams, Peanut and a few others are not suited to be in the roles they are in so we needed to remedy that by replacing them with guys who had the skill sets we needed to play the positions we have linked them to. I can clearly see Wormley as a back up only and we now have some depth at the spots we need and not just shoving round pegs into square holes simply because we have those bodies under contract. On a different note, has anyone seen word about Jimmy Smith? I have not seen hide nor hair of anything regarding him. I was wondering if they declined Carr and restructured a few in order to make him an offer to keep him here. I really would love to see him back.
WOW! just saw the Steelers gave up a 2021 5th for a 2021 7th and acquire Chris Wormley. That seems like a lot to give up for him. Am I missing the boat on his skill or is he that good. I viewed him as a good back up but not quite skilled enough to be a true starter. Maybe I am not the best evaluator of talent but he did not strike me as a real difference maker. EDIT: Ok so I thought it was both picks coming from the Steelers so that is why I said wow at first. I misread it. 5th rounder next year for Worlmey and a 7th rounder next year. Still a nice upgrade for a depth player.
