Here we are in the off-season. Spring training is boring, the Hawks suck and will miss the playoffs (again), and who gives a shit about basketball but the Bulls suck too. So let’s talk draft needs and possibilities. Even though the Bears don’t have a first rounder, there are some interesting fits for round two. The latest buzz is about this Derek Tuszka. Edge guy from FBS NDSU. He put up some crazy good numbers at the underwear olympics and looks the part on tape. Will be there on day two for sure. What about ND tight end Cole Kmet? Good size, athleticism, and a decent blocker. Should definitely be there on day two as well. There was talk about a couple guards as well, which I wouldn’t mind at all. Let’s get this line fixed and that will, in theory, fix the running game and help Mitch tremendously. Im bored and tired of Chicago’s shitty winter sports scene.
Spring training is boring? LOL I cant even watch the cubs because Ricketts and Comcast are out-doucheing each other and I'm not buying Hulu just to watch them. Stan Bowman needs to be fired if what Lehner alleged he would be willing to stay for is true. Bulls are finally about to get a new GM and coach because Jim Boylen is a clown. Sox have some expectations but are still young, if Minnesota fails to replicate their stupid power numbers from 2019 the Sox can hang with them for 1st. My friends still tries to talk me into soccer. The XFL is comical and entertaining, but just not good talent. Depressing indeed. Draft is top heavy on Olinemen. Andrew Thomas from GA and Matt Peart from UConn are my favorite tackles and I'd love one round 2. Probably wont have a shot at Thomas in the 2nd... Kmet is the pundit's fav TE in the draft and looked it to me. Not sure if he's falling to 40-wherever the bears pick first, so I watched Hopkins from Purdue, Randy Moss' kid from LSU, Harrison Bryant from Flordia Atlantic. They're the tier below Kmet so sure to any one of them. Not sure I buy the whole story that the bears are interested in Austin Hooper for TE because its 'smoke and mirrors' season. Speaking of rumors, the Andy Dalton shit needs to stop. Right now. I liked Anthony Gordon from Washington State throwing, he didn't do any of the other shit like run or bench. Smart kid too, Mike Leach runs a complicated, vast offense predicated on success of 'air raid.' There's a lot of speed at WR if you need to replace Turbo Gabriel. Need an edge, bad. Too bad Leonard Floyd will still be on this team... Ton of solid 5 techs. I want this guy: I'm prepared for total and utter disappointment from Ryan Pace because there's not a lot of cap room.
I’m getting the feeling this is going to happen. Newest report has the Bengals giving permission to the Bears to talk to Daltons team regarding a trade/contract renegotiation. Not the best option IMO but better than Keenum or Mariota.
So.. without looking, I believe that leaves them with a two seconds, two fourths, and... what? Leave it to Pace to package them up along with the next 22 first round picks for an out-of-the-box doozy. Book it. Smartest guy in the building.
Like. Numbers aren't announced as of yet. Later Nick K, go get paid by the packers and get us a comp pick for next year.
I'm fine with Keenum cheap. People give backup QBs way too much thought. If your starter goes down, you're fucked. I don't love Dalton (I'd rather spin the wheel drafting and benching a guy), but if he's reasonably cheap, fine. Can't see how bears get him without the Bungals either cutting him or pretty much paying his whole salary for 2020. Bears can't afford to give up more than a supremely late round pick for that, and I just don't see Cinci being that desperate/finding a better deal. With Dalton still on their roster, they walk into the offseason with 53 and change mil in cap. They can just cut him and save the full 17.7 mil because his money isn't guaranteed.
Like the idea of cheap Keenum. Andy Dalton is a hot fucking mess. No way, no how, no no and no. Leave it to the Bears to bring in the only starting QB with a worse total qbr than Mitch to “improve” the position. He sucked last year, has always sucked, and will get even suckier. I guess what I’m saying is Andy Dalton sucks.
With what money? New CBA didn't give them that much more, they go from ~21 to ~28 mil and have already resigned Danny Trevathan. They still have several others to sign too plus a draft to fit in. Is this going to be a back-ended deal?
I would prefer this not be true, regardless of whether or not they find a way to make the money work. That said, I know Mitch isn't going to get it done, so I guess any other QB will give some kind of hope... but back-loading a QB contract means we'd be stuck with a potentially massive mistake, which would be unacceptable. Edit: As teams solidify QB's (Titans re-signing Tannehill, etc), would it potentially lower Bridgewater's price? I guess we'll see.
Resigning the older player with injury history over the younger player who's ascending, well done Pace you stupid fuck. Maybe he felt he simply wouldn't be able to match what Kwit would get on the open market because there isn't the CAP space, BUT WHO'S FAULT IS THAT?!!!!
In the interests of laziness im gonna double post. Kwit hands down outplayed him last season. He was far better against the pass than expected too, he was an every down player. If Kwit goes to the pro bowl next year im gonna be mega pissed. And just add that I always liked Trev. And it was a great value deal. But his play was already trending down and this is the wrong move imo. Hope he proves me wrong next season.
I like Kwit, but I don't think he's better than a healthy Trev. If Trev can come back for a year or two, that's all Pace wants. ALL IN. This team is the picture of boom or bust.
I'm stuck somewhere in the middle leaning more towards Kwit, I enjoyed watching him seem to have fun out there. No doubt Trev had the skill, but Kwit had the heart of a young Butkus or Singletary. Butkus didn't care what the score was, you were gonna pay one way or the other.
Packers use their first round pick to select a quarterback. And not only that, but traded up to do it. Whether you think Jordan Love will be good or not is besides the point. The point is that the Packers understand the importance of the quarterback position, they identified their guy and took him.
The bears did the same thing with Mitch. Pace identified his guy and did what he had to take him. Love's gonna hold a clipboard for at least one year because Erin's 4 year, 134 mil extension starts this season and goes through the 2023-24 season. Short of some really stupid things happening, LaFleur doesn't seem like he's going anywhere anytime soon. Packers will set the table nicely for this kid to succeed, it'll just be on him. Didn't know Love chucked 17 INTs last year. If you care about college conference/competition at all, the Mountain West isn't special outside of Boise State, who made him look pedestrian in the 2019 season match up. Other defenses (LSU and Wake Forest) also made him look bad. Don't know what the Lions are doing. You trade your best lock-down corner, Slay after giving him a big, new contract then draft one #3 overall? You got me, Detroit. I didn't see that coming. Queens took 2 solid players. Let's see what Pace does tonight. Plenty of talented beef on the OLine available (the Houston OT looks legit). Nobody took a safety or a TE last night either, those are spots to feel good about. If you were hoping for a CB, a ton of them were taken last night so Tolliver or a CFL star may be starting opposite Fuller in a couple months seems a decent chance of happening. Those of you wanting a trade down may just get your wish, seeing as how Pace won't be picking until 163 after tonight if he uses both 2nds or uses more capital to trade up.
This is where the depth of quality in this draft class really plays for the Bears. There are 10picks before them and still a load of impact players available, even at #43 they can get a real nice player with prob a 1st round grade. Not picking till 163 is sickening and not conducive to effective roster building. Pace has to try and get another pick somehow, but tbh I really don't want him to move out of #43. I guess I would stand at #43 and hope to find a trade at #50 but just take another good prospect if the value isn't there. But lets take a moment to give Pace a ripple of applause for somehow controlling his trade up boner and not flushing even more picks to jump up. I half expected to see the Bears number called yesterday. That kinda patience is 3 years late dickslap, but good for you.
Glad to see you're all keeping this board active and well. I wish i was still as active as I once was lol. Hoping the Bears stack up on offensive linemen here in the 2nd if possible. Would be happy with a DB. I have a feeling they will go WR since the talent there is supposed to be very good. I'm not excited by the guys that will be there but i can live with it.
