You are doing an EXCELLENT job Lym. Every year something does come up. This year it’s a surprising abundance of rescinded bids. There have probably been more already in the first round of bidding then we had all of last year.

 

Great job Lyman. I'm not trying to talk like I'm trying to take this over or being condescending but as a guy that with Tim essentially created the rules and nuances I know what was meant by the rules that were around from well before. Some seem to have been missed or GMs are acting in ways now that make them not work as well as they have before. However other aspects are running more smoothly than before and that has mostly been thanks to you.

You’re doing a solid job and without your effort this never would have been possible this season. Don’t let the discussion over rules and varying opinions of them to lure you into thinking someone is taking a shot in your direction. Like Xinik said, this is just another part of the process. We discuss issues and work out solutions for the following year.

Ultimately, any and all problems that anyone has with how this operates falls at my feet.

And, just like every other year, I kick that shit to the curb with 3 things in mind -

1. There will never be a year where we all agree
2. It’s still a great exercise that we all enjoy
3. Everyone needs to invite at least one person and every year it doesn’t happen

I think Lym is running this thing just as smoothly as it's ever run, if not better. I like the tracker chart.

 

He is, and ultimately the discussion earlier should only help to clarify the rules in the future.

 

He's running it as smoothly as he can. It's just that the system was not built for the way GMs are tackling the exercise at the moment. These issues were going to happen regardless. The tracker chart is definitely an improvement from last year.

 

The rules clearly state you can rescind bids. I think it’s a non-issue and better than waiting for the signing period. I’ve had a couple people rescind bids on guys I was 2nd highest bidder and then I was outbid again, signed one, rescinded on another. It’s the name of the game in my opinion. But as you sign guys it takes up cap space and sometimes you need to re-think your strategy. Like I said this is all very fluid with things changing and I don’t see the issue.

Put me down as thinking this is running smoothly.

I don't even want to think about the work that is involved....Lyman is running it better. More timely on responses. Constant updates. It's been great.

It's a pretend game we are playing, so it's not ever going to be perfect...People are griping about too many rescinds. So change the rules. Don't blame the guy who's running the show.

Honestly I wouldn't blame Lym if he doesn't come back, after your assertion about how bad this year has been in comparison to the last two...

 

All in your head. It is as smoothly as he can. What else am I supposed to say? I even said his updates are awesome and that the issues aren't his problem but of the system that is basically unprecedented. Running this has always been a learning experience. Tim's been doing it every year in some capacity and he's learned lots from this year even when he isn't as actively involved.

Rescinding bids shouldn’t be allowed and people should bid responsibly.

That’s my opinion so maybe some agree and some don’t.

You just read into it wrong. I clarified what I said 2 or 3 times now because it seemed to be taken as an attack for some reason. I'm not going to apologize for something I didn't do. That'll only make me look like I was a dick to begin with.

We made every attempt we could think of to clarify the rules, line up participants, streamline the Moderator tasks and generally kick it off on time with little or no chaos.

Because he assumed I was talking about his lack of control. I wasn't and I told him so publicly and privately. I have said multiple times you can make every attempt to do this as well as possible and things can and still don't go perfectly. It was not a blind attack either, it was just a statement from experience. I don't know exactly how much work he put into this but I bet it's a lot and Tim, RT and I put in lots of work on previous years before and every year had it's problems despite everything we planned to avoid them. Every year we have problems and every year we discus them in the open so we can get feedback to improve for next year. Every year it gets run better and Lyman made great improvements but sometimes it's just happens. It wasn't really an oversight this year but an unexpected outcome of the system with the GMs that couldn't have been predicted from prior experiences.

I AM sorry for any possible confusion I may have caused by a misunderstanding but any attack on Lyman is completely non-existent and I wouldn't dare insult him on his fine work here after I myself have experienced how brutal it can be to run one of these.
