Ok. That's fine....That puts Washington and Cleveland out of the Reiff-stakes. just tryin to clear it up brother
Everyone’s on the same playing field when it comes to bidding. It’s whomever has the highest bid and if someone pulls their bid it goes back to the previous highest bid. I don’t see the issue when cap space isn’t limitless.
Because we are not working with the same freedom that you would have if you could make offers all across the board and wait to see who wants to sign. This is an auction process so it has to have structure.
Jaguars sign DT Marcel Dareus $6,000,000 Pretty good value for being on the books for roughly $14m before Jax cut em & got em back for $6m.
Isn’t the structure to give everyone 48 hours from the highest bid? Either way when an offer is rescinded there’s still 48 hours. All it does is reset the clock and gives anyone else a chance to bid higher. Just my opinion.
And every time you make a bid it affects everyone else. None of your bidding process exists in a bubble.
Whew !!!! It's been a crazy afternoon ! I think I got all the updates in this. Please Note: All RFA, ERFA and tagged players have been moved to the "Signed" tab. I had apparently made this harder than it needs to be. Moving forward . . . there will be no "Awarded" tab. If the 48 hour clock has passed with no new bids, and the high bidder hasn't posted that the player has been signed - then the Status column will simply say "Awarded".
That’s not what I’m saying, however, I don’t think you can possibly justify giving a cap hit for a player you never signed? If that’s the case maybe shortening the window from 48 hours to 24 would make things less fluid. I’m just saying there’s a lot of moving parts and you can’t expect people to not bid on a guy because they already bid on someone else.
The Jaguars DECLINE to sign OT Kelvin Beachum (NYJ) Was no previous bid. Trading for Trent Williams filled my need at OT.
The Arizona Cardinals sign: LB Kyle Van Noy $11,000,000 Rescind bid: LB Leonard Floyd $7,000,000 Previous bid - Seattle- $6,000,000 @Tim
But my point still stands. Every time you make a bid that you can't cover your affecting an owner that might have made the same bid. They decide to move in another direction and they lose out on a player because you're making bad faith bids. And having a cap hit for rescinding bids is definitely feasible when a team is working with over $50mil and they are constantly rescinding.
I'm not saying this at all. I'm saying there is no reason to spray shot bids hoping for the best and screwing up the auction for everyone else by making several in bad faith.
Cardinals Rescind bid: LB Leonard Floyd $7,000,000 Previous bid - Seattle- $6,000,000 The Seahawks will not be signing Floyd. @Lyman - Leonard Floyd will return to the FA pool.
The reason we had 24 hour window to sign players after winning a bid was so we could be responsible and wait to see how other bids close to being awarded settle so we can make those tough decisions a little easier. In real life when someone says yes you dont have too long to wait before he says F you looking at someone else, I got another offer. If it gets this bad again we may ne forced to have a bidding window for bids over $10M only so people are less likely to rescind too much. Rescinding bids shouldn't give penalties when done properly but with the nature of how we bid we need to be responsible to respect the system. Rescinding should mean you are out. Not enough time to play these chicken games. The player gives you a big F you.
lol! Yeah, that would be pretty f'd up in the real world.... Why not just make it official? If you rescind on a player, you are out. Previous bids don't matter.....
I don't believe I made this clear but it should be fine to bid on multiple guys BUT it needs to be organized. If 2 guys are about to be signed then wait until your preference is awarded to you and then rescind the other. Or if you are close to time just win the bid and then rescind. At that point people had a chance to bid for 48H plus and thus the next team up really wasn't gonna get outbid by more than the last increase so it should be fair for them to be awarded the bid at that point, even in future years of this exercise. Now if you are about to win a guy but are in the middle of another bid then let the 48H clock hit it's limit, wait the 24 hours and then before he is automatically signed you can cut him and take your chances at the other guy that is still available. It may not seem like much different than what you are already doing but trust me it's much more organized and went pretty smoothly in previous years when people did it this way.
