And this exact scenario you find yourself in is why teams will usually use the franchise tag instead of the transition tag. Teams are more willing to bid on transition players because they won’t have to pay anything in terms of draft compensation if they win the bid (but almost always will with franchise tag), and at the very least they can damage their opponent by driving the price up for them

    O
Okay, so I should have just waited the 48 hours THEN made my offer (instead of essentially bidding myself up).

My misunderstanding - I thought once an offer came in for my tagged player, if I matched it he was my property.

Already used the franchise on Dak.

I know. The’Boys are in a precarious predicament with those two.

    And Jones and Quinn.

No, the 48 hour clock would reset when you matched the offer.

Would it? That doesn’t sound right. The other 31 teams bid it out. Once someone has “won”, the ROFR team simply says Matched, and it’s done

    I agree.

Who says another team doesn't intend to bid?

I think you’re misunderstanding me. I don’t mean he can just match the minute a bid comes in and the bidding is over. I mean after 48 hours go by on Arizona’s bid for example and Arizona has won the bidding. At that point all he has to do is match. We don’t restart the clock for the ROFR team. The bid was won by Arizona (regular 48 hour clock) and he simply chose to match.

If another team wanted to bid it’s AZs 48 hour clock they’re working against.

In this case, when a bid was received on a Transition Tagged player the 48 hour clock starts. Had DAL not matched that bid within 48 hours, then the player would be awarded to the bidding team and DAL would be left holding their pecker in their hand.

So how long does he have to match? I'm saying 48 hours from the time the new bid was placed.

But, I can see your point.

[Note to self] Clarify this for next year's GMO.

    Another favor to ask . . .

Please include a player's postion when making a bid. The active sheet in the "Free Agent Status" Google Spreadsheet is sorted by position and this would save me the time to look up a player's postion when entering a new bid if I'm unsure what position he plays.

  19. I think the point is that as soon as there is a winning bid then Dallas has the chance to choose whether or not to match. No clock needs to be involved in that.

So, how long do I need to wait on Dallas' decision before I move that player to the Awarded tab and then to the Signed tab?
