We'll see if Haula can fit in FLA. I'm skeptical he can be as good a 2C as Trocheck was at his peak. Problem is, I also don't think Trocheck was going to get back to his peak in FLA. So... I guess it's probably a good change of scenery for everyone. We'll see.

Haula is a pending UFA. I have to conclude that they’d soured on Trocheck for ... for whatever reason.

I wanted Buffalo to trade for Trocheck and then target Haula as a FA in July.

Trocheck had a BAD year, this year. But it is an outlier, as was his 70+ point season. I think he'll be a better fit in Carolina, and will eventually make them happy with the deal. However, if this year continues the way it has for him, he may not be any help to them at all for this season.

I don't like the return for Trocheck. Two marginal prospects, a pending UFA, and pending RFA - neither NHL player being a real top 6 guy, though that's where Haula will play. I think they're hoping the two C's they acquired will help give them some push for the playoffs this year, so that ownership doesn't throw everyone out of the building if they miss. And they were willing to take less future assets to get that help for this season. I don't like it. But, as long as Tallon is running the show, I will likely be unhappy. Oh, well.

I'm giving up the Leafs for lent, I hope jesus forgives me lol, it doesn't sound like much of a sacrifice.
I'll talk about anything other than them, if on Easter they're in, then I'll watch again.

Wings did good, sabres maybe auditioning Simmonds for next season.

I like the game Simmonds can bring if the Sabres reach the playoffs... I think they are banking on getting in and that's why they were buyers and not sellers this time.

Interesting note on the Sabres is how poorly they play in the month of March the last several years... Simmonds may be the spark that prevents that from happening this season as the push for a spot.

Wings threw Kenny a little life jacket there, happy to see you.

The Wings did well on draft picks, but Gagne and Brodzniak are in sad shape right now.

Last night was a big blow, Botts had no choice but to go for it. The fans would've lost their shit and his job is on the line.

It's the two picks, those two players are gone at the end of the season.
Athanasiou is underperforming this year and will be a pain during negotiations for his RFA deal.

First: I’m glad the site is back up and hopefully better for the muckiety-mucks on L4S.

Second, I do not think previous years reflect on the March 2020 outlook for the Sabres. I think the fact that Buffalo wants to play “meaningful” games in March was the learning experience that Botts wanted to promote with the buy on Simmonds. The Sabres, generally speaking, lack toughness and lack a net presence - Simmer delivers both. So, while he’s obviously in decline, he adds things the team needs. Add that he’s a great vet for the locker room, and the cost is cheap.

I think they’ll wait to late June before deciding if they want to sign him. He seems interested in coming back, but that may just be his savvy in understanding of how to sound bite.

Meanwhile I hear that Botts went hard for Trocheck, but the price was too high to snag him from a divisional foe.

The PIT trade is looking like it may become a huge win. Sheary was probably not coming back next year, and Rodrigues was definitely a goner. Kahun is younger, much more skilled, and cost-controlled than the pair. I understand the Pens’ thinking, but it was classic buying-cause-our-window is still open. Buffalo wants NHL players for this March, but are really building for the future. Simmonds may help the future even if he leaves in July based on how he can help this team learn how to play under extreme pressure. Kahun gets added to the mix of the potential-2C of the future candidates.

I actually like some wings over the centers at the draft spot the Sabres are likely to pick. Good to add more future potential at a key position.

Wings now have three 2nd rounders, two 3rd rounders and 2 4th rounders, one a conditional

Simmonds included the Sabres as one of the teams he was willing to be traded to in his modified NTC.
Like Skinner, he's from Toronto and the proximity means something.

You may be saying the same thing, but I'm not sure.

Simmonds waived his NTC to go to Buffalo. It astounds me how many Sabres fans actually belive that "no one wants to play in Buffalo".

Really like the Wings getting the picks. Same goes for Ottawa, they did extremely well.

Seems like Kase will be a go tonight for the good guys hosting Dallas. the more Ive let that deal sink in the more I like it, Sweeney did really well getting rid of the Backes deal. Hoping he can re-sign Krug but only at the right number. His hockeydb page doesnt cover the whole picture, he still certainly has his deficiencies regardless of the point production. A guy like Pietrangelo should get more on the open market.

FWIW im in agreement with dline on the Panthers and Tallon. He has fumbled a good thing there and wasted some prime years. Barkov and Huberdeau should be pissed.

Along the same lines.......how does Toronto not acquire Thornton at the deadline? Bruins couldve used him but I think Toronto needs that veteran presence. Just think he could possibly be a stud in the post season for someone, assuming he is healthy.

Upon reflection I'm very surprised with both TOR's and FLA's (lack) of moves. Makes me wanna shout! Let's go Bufalo!
