The leafs can really use him, no, the leafs won't win the cup.

They might not even make the playoffs, losing 3-1 to the Canes who also have two games in hand.

    Campbell should get more starts

Yeah, he's looked good, they'll give freddie every chance to get it togeher again.

Canes have the zamboni driver in net now, they were offered Hutch and refused.

4-2, if they don't go to town on Ayres, say goodbye to the season.

Panthers GM Dale Tallon all but confirmed in a Friday interview that there's going to be no changes to the roster via trade before end of this season.

I don't have the strength to list all the ways this is absolute garbage management, and is very much in line with what Tallon is good at - nothing at all. Even if the Panthers manage to make it into the playoffs, they'll be a first round exit.

In the same interview, Tallon said that he just hopes his team has fun, and while it's important to make it into the playoffs, every year is a process. Basically, everything he's said word for word for a decade. So, I'll return to this thread when and if he does something of consequence in the off-season... Hopefully he's fired before then...

As for the Bruins, they join the "Fleeced a trade partner" club alongside Winnipeg and their Ottawa deal. Getting rid of a contract, getting a young contributing winger with term, and only having to give up what will likely be a very late first + a B prospect (from all accounts - I've never seen him play)... I wish FLA had a GM who could do that.

The Washington - Boston matchup is going to be an absolute treat, if we get it...

    Hot off the press,

Habs trade Kovalchuk to the Caps for a 3rd rounder.
Kovalchuk taking up cap space on 4 different teams now.
Caps become a little more russian.

Red Wings , Mike Green sent to the Oilers for Brodziak and a conditional pick.

I’m a bit surprised at the dollars, but I believe that was probably based on a mini bidding war for Bogo. Even at nearly 2x the expected minimum salary, he signed for 50% less than it would have been in trade - with Buffalo retaining the max.

But I do not like TB, so I won’t be sad when he does not hoist the Cup in June.

I think you still have to make it worthwhile for Bogo to go down there, they don't get paid for the playoffs. Also, the no-state tax will help him maximze his net.

The Avs bought Namestikov from the Sens for a fourth. Essentially Ottawa recovers most of what they gave the Rangers. They did give up an AHL player, but that hardly matters.

The NYR retained 25%, so it only costs ~$3.3MM prorated. Sakic has done well bringing in former high picks on the cheap.

I do not understand “make it worthwhile”. Bogo has been posturing all season for an opportunity to boost his chances at contract negotiations in July.

There were other teams in play, a mini-bidding war.

Trochek sent packing to the Canes for 4 players including Wallmark (I watched him live at the wjc), also Haula

Hauls is one helical player. He did not seem to fit in with the Canes. I love Trochek, and I think Florida did well with the return.

Panthers trade away Trocheck for a 4 player return. None of those four players have Trocheck's ceiling, though Trocheck hasn't been playing very well over the last two seasons. I think a change of scenery is going to be very good for him. He was a fan favorite here, and the relationship he had built with the players here in FLA was really special - it made it really easy to root for him and this team. He was always referred to as the "emotional engine" of the team. And was just genuinely a good dude. He's going to be very, very missed here.

But the reality is that he got comfortable here, and so did the players around him. With the recent nosedive, it wasn't unexpected seeing someone meaningful get traded. I don't know that Trocheck was the right one to give away, but it's the same effort - wake everyone up. Trocheck is going to a team where he won't be the vocal leader, and will get a chance to just focus on his game. I think it's going to be really good for him, frankly. I think CAR is going to be very happy with him, and it rejuvenates his career. I don't know if the FLA core will react the same way. We'll see.

The return for Trocheck was four guys who don't have that high of an NHL ceiling. If no other move comes before the deadline, this was a bad trade. It would be a very Dale Tallon move if all this did was free up cap space for the offseason (Haula UFA, Wallmark RFA).

What happened to Vinny? The last two seasons he took a step back. I still remember him on the US wjc team, major presence.
