i just watched that mantle interview. i think Costas is shocked at some of Mantle's responses about not feeling good about himself and not being a hero to fans and little kids. alcoholics who see the error of their ways like Mantle did don't see any good in their past. Now most of us don't have a past life like Mantle did, but they're ashamed and embarrassed at their drinking life. nothing heroic or hall of fame about that.

Are you referring to the drinking part or Mantle himself? Im a bit confused as to how you ended your post.

Will you cut out the part that ties it together....

but they're ashamed and embarrassed at "their drinking life
." nothing heroic or hall of fame about that.

    OK, I understand now.

FYI - You cut it out by using a period instead of a comma... :p

Great HOF telecast and speeches yesterday. Happy for all inductees. Sad for Brandy Halladay who gave a great speech for her late husband. Wow. There have been 2 reports due to the drugs in Doc's system that it could be a suicide. No need for that reporting on HOF weekend. I don't give a shit about journalism, respect the guy, his family and this weekend. Jeez.

HOF 2020-Jeter is a lock and Schilling has an outside chance.

I was shocked that it wasn't mentioned once in person or on his plaque that Rivera was the first player to get 100% of the vote??

well Rose made his own bed, but i agree he should be in and Selig kept giving him the shaft.

  10. Larry Walker ......his 10th and Final year on the Ballot.........I do hope they vote him in Today.

The sad thing is he never won a Championship.......BUT his numbers are good enough to get in.

    We will know tonight.............stay tuned.

Walker’s a lock on a future committee vote if he doesn’t get in on this ballot.

Agreed. I don't believe they can hold the Coors Field thing against him... he was a true hitter. Average and power.

It's a good thing Walker chose baseball, his brother Carey was taken in the 12th round by the habs, terrible goalie.

His brothers Barry and Gary played sports as well.

    Larry, Barry, Gary, and Carey.

My cousin played junior hockey with Larry....also with Cam Neely....and also played a year along side him in the British Columbia baseball league. My cousin wasn't as good as those guys were though because he became a bricklayer later on.

The biggest problem facing Walker getting into the HOF (like we all wouldn't want these type of problems).

    - Too far away from the 3000 hit milestone.

-Too far away from the 500 hr milestone.

    - 18-21 seasons would've helped too.
