Results, regardless of the (forgotten or mis-remembered) circumstances are what HoF voters depend on when casting their votes.

I believe the team bill won the super bowl with had zero of nolls players.

If i counted right only 10 of the players on the team he lost to the cowboys with were from Nolls team (Niel O'Donell, Ernie Mills, Dermontti Dawson, John Jackson, Ariel Solomon, Justin Strzelczyk, Greg Lloyd, Jerry Olsavsky, Rod Woodson, and Carnell Lake).

Dan beat me to this one....I think it's fair to say Landry's Cowboys were on the decline. They went 3-13 in 1988, making it the third year in a row that they had missed the playoffs. Unusual by Dallas standards....They were clearly no powerhouse when Jimmy Johnson took over in 89 and built the Cowboys back into a monster in short order. The catalyst being, as Dan already pointed out, the famous Hershel Walker trade. At the time, people thought he was crazy. Walker was their only Pro-Bowl'r and best player by far. As we all know, that deal turned out to be one of the greatest moves of all time, and set the wheels in motion for another Dallas dynasty. JJ's first ever draft pick was eventual HoF'r Troy Aikman. Not a bad start.

The story of Polamalu's career. The amount of havoc that guy created that never earned him a "stat" is insane. Loved watching him fly down hill and blow up a pulling linemen to stop a running play. Never showed up anywhere but was always the reason the run went nowhere.

Pretty interesting observation. The easiest answer would be to say Cowher took a team that had been to the playoffs 1 out of the previous 7 seasons and preceded to go to the playoffs 6 straight years (5 division titles) but that would be ignoring the fact that Noll did a pretty good job of stocking the cupboards right before he left:

    Rod Woodson
    Hardy Nickerson
    Greg Lloyd
    Aaron Jones
    Dermonti Dawson
    John Jackson
    Carnell Lake
    D.J. Johnson
    Carlton Haselrig
    Jerry Olsavsky
    Eric Green
    Neil O'Donnell
    Barry Foster
    Gary Jones
    Justin Strzlcyk

That was a nice nucleus that was really just coming together when Noll retired. But then Cowher hit the cover off the ball his first draft ('92):

    Leon Searcy
    Levon Kirkland
    Joel Steed
    Darren Perry

I think the thing that ultimately got him in was his winning percentage. There are only 10 NFL retired coaches (minimum 10 seasons) with a higher winning percentage. 9 are in the Hall of Fame (Seifert). That's good company:

    John Madden .759
    Vince Lombardi .738
    George Allen .712
    Ray Flaherty .684
    George Halas .682
    Don Shula .677
    Paul Brown .672
    Tony Dungy .668

    George Siefert .648
    Bill Cowher .623
    Bud Grant .621
    Joe Gibbs .621

    Active coaches above Cowher:

    Bill Belichick .683
    Mike Tomlin .642
    Sean Payton .630

Did anyone here catch the Aaron Hernandez doc on Netflix? It’s amazing how immature and insecure he was. Thought it was a really well made piece and worth the time.

I watched a bit of it while at the gym this morning. He was really messed up. Kinda sad really. He had talent but didn't get the help and guidance he needed.

I didn't see anything about why they killed the guy. Or did I miss something.

I got two episodes in, so far.

If I recall from reading up when it was initially going on, the prosecutors version of why he killed Odin Lloyd was because he didn’t trust him to keep quiet about the previous shooting. I could be wrong, but pretty sure that’s what I read

Man what a sad end the brutal killing of Odin Lloyd that goofy azz law they did have, and to blame it on CTE really c'mon but it was tragic and sad how he hung himself, to see how he had it all and lost it

  18. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

I don’t know if he really had a reason to kill Odin Lloyd, I think Hernandez was so off the rails and such an insecure person at that point that it could’ve been anything that he perceived as a slight.

  19. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

    Could be.
Hernandez so dumb about everything as well. It’s amazing how he lived so long like this.

As a Pats fan the entire Aaron Hernandez story is the biggest embarrassment the organization has ever had in my opinion. People seem to want to pile on for innocuous and ridiculous stories, but employing a psycho with multiple murders under his belt doesn’t seem to be brought up very often.
