Philosophically, I agree with SAS, but I have a nagging suspicion that Slam was favoring a different decision, and trying to be "all for one and one for all" he "accepted the consensus for Stefanski.

Can't be sure of that, and hopefully it doesn't matter, if this arrangement works. I do think two things: #1 there is pressure on this regime to turn quickly, because of the talent on the roster, and the impending big pay days coming, and #2 that presssure will get to Slam if they don't show significant progress quickly if he really wasn't "sure" Stefanski was the right hire.

We're going for harmony in the organization this time. Went for the "Football Guru" last time, and have had mixed marriages before that, so ...........

So here's the hard truth, too: this is still the Jimmy Haslam show, so a 6-10 or 7-9 finish very well could mean *another* reset after this one. DePodesta is I guess "day-to-day" per Schefter -- he's working without a contract in place. 2020 is very much a make-or-break season for Baker and the offense. Stefanski himself, the analytics pick, probably signed the standard four year deal and not one like Rhule got or McDaniels would have (same agent as Rhule) to the tune of 6-years and $10+ million a season.

If this experiment doesn't work out, we could be in a hard reset where we're looking for the new HC, GM, QB, etc...

That is reason enough for me to hope we finally got it right and won't have to go through this crap again.

The coach is signed for five years

The Bengals will be a lot better if they draft Burrows.
Every team in our division could be 500 or better

    1. I'm a younger Browns fan... we haven't had a four year contract played out since Reagan was in office.

    2. I thought it was four with a team/coach option for five?

Maybe, I only saw the article said 5 years in the title. Didn’t read it so the fifth could be an option

Just imagine Mike Brown screwing this up and taking someone else at #1 (or worse... trading out of the spot).

I don't even care that we'll have to endure the "4-3 versus 3-4" debates and see semi-pro draft analysts, which includes Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr., slotting "nose tackle" to the Browns at #10.

    I want son-of-bum.

Maybe we can trade with the Patriots for Danny Shelton ??? :p

    -per Dawg Pound Daily:
Report: Andrew Berry, Wade Phillips will be joining the Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns have reportedly ended their search for a general manager and defensive coordinator, as Andrew Berry and Wade Phillips will be on staff.

The Cleveland Browns officially announced Kevin Stefanski as their new head coach on Monday, allowing the team to shift its focus to filling Stefanski's staff and hiring a general manager. However, Cleveland appears to be already well on their way to completing those tasks.

According to Dustin Fox of 92.3 The Fan, Eagles Vice President of Football Operations Andrew Berry and former Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips will be heading to Cleveland to join the organization.

Rumor mill: A name to remember for Browns vacant OC position, John DePhillipo......and yes, he's been here before.

Awkward x2... DePhillipo was the guy fired in Minnesota to make way for Stefanski.

This is what drives me nuts about the opportunity that presents itself to CLE every couple seasons -

    There it is.

Just make DePodesta the PFO, make Berry the GM and stick with that beyond Stefanski if he doesn’t work out. If he does, great, but if he doesn’t there needs to be continuity and accountability along a line of responsibility.

Making Paul the PFO and hiring Berry as the GM should have been done immediately towards establishing a hierarchy that whatever coach that roamed the sidelines would report to.

I couldn't agree more. At least half the time, the Cleveland Browns are their own worst enemy...That's just a sad fact that can't be denied.

Over the last two decades, this team has been the poster child of futility, and though bad luck HAS played a significant part, much of the woes this team has endured is absolutely the result of their own doing. Luck favors the prepared mind anyway, and the absolute last adjective anyone would ever use in describing the Cleveland Browns is "prepared".

Phillips is a really good hire.

With Stefanski and him...Browns are finally on the right track.

I agree, but I'm concerned that Dustin Fox might have jumped the gun on that report. S.I. is reporting that it's down to Phillips or George Edwards, and Mary Kay is reporting that it's down to Steve Wilks or Joe Woods...

    I hope it's Wade Phillips.

If they pass on Wade...they deserve to go 0-16 again.
