Kitchens is gone. You can't keep hearing all these rumors about players wanting out and believe this coach has any chance of staying.

This is Cleveland...... bizarre is our specialty.

Actual thread was: ... this is the season we’ve been waiting for (the end of). It was just too long to fit.

    Mercifully, it’s done.

    Next up: offseason. Let’s roll.

Chiefs roster is what it is because of Dorsey.

Is your argument this is not the most talented roster we have had in Cleveland in the last 20+ years?

I'd like to hear that argument...

Coaching ruined this season and I'd just like to remind everyone there was a coach search committee made up of Dorsey, Haslem, Wolf, JW Johnson, Depodesta and Berry. We don't know that Haslem didn't make the final call on the coach hire.

You are right, we don't know.

I'd argue that it is "unlikely" that Haslam made the choice, given that Dorsey got the Haslams to agree to remove themselves from the direct reporting of the HC.

The "knock" on Dorsey coming in, was he tended to take more risks than "traditional" GMs. This feels like a Dorsey move, and admitedly, I may be wrong.

Perhaps more importantly, who do we believe in, going forward, to make this critical decision on the next Head Coach?

We've seen the folly of hiring an inexperienced guy, but IMO shouldn't be locked into a guy who's been an NFL HC. What Freddie most lacked was experience in handling the "broad responsibilities" of a HC, and the organizational abilities necessary to keep it all focussed.

He had none of that. Our candidate needs to have demostrated the ability to create and control the multi faceted responsibilities. Secondarily, or maybe just as critical, is a broad network of people to help him choose, and build a coaching staff. That is where length of time as a coach, plays a roll. Who do you know, who have you worked with, who are your mentors, your cousels, when personnel decisions need to be made.

    My two cents.

    Whoa, whoa, whoa...

There have been three draft classes post-Dorsey and most importantly Dorsey passed on the guy that drives the Chiefs - at a time when the Browns desperately needed a QB.

What the fuck are you talking about? For a guy so convinced Dorsey needs to be fired, you don't even know when he got hired.

His first draft was 2018. His first pick was Baker Mayfield.

If you're gonna go on a tirade, at least do 60 seconds worth of study, first. I mean, any at all.

So SAS's's's nonsense predictions of 13-3 & 10-6 were wrong, you say?

    Shocked. Absolutely shocked.

I recall saying after the Week 1 loss can Kitchens keep the locker room.

The good news is there's undoubted talent on that roster. Next hire is critical.

BTW, you can say the GM made a shitty hire, and well, I guess you'd be right. But the way I see it he also just made a ballsy move in this firing. He knowingly shone a light on his own act of incompetence with the initial hire of Kitchens, but doing that now gives the team a chance to move forward faster. To preserve the talent that's there and maybe avoid a ground up rebuild later down the line.

I don't know if they can now make the right hire, but honestly, I wish some of the high ups on the Bears had that kind of stones.

Reading the tea leaves: did Dorsey make this decision?
3 weeks ago we hear the rumor that Freddie is likely to stay, barring an epic collapse.

Now that sounded to me like Dorsey convincing Haslam to hang in there. With AZ, Baltimore, and Cinci left, wins in two of three might have saved Freddie then. Getting beat decisively in all three, made this decision inevitable.

No one could argue that Freddie earned another year, but I've got to believe Haslam was the one who needed convincing, not Dorsey. No way to know, but IMO Dorsey would risk his job, arguing to keep Freddie, so not ballsy to make that move, just survival instinct.

This season should be a pretty solid reminder for everyone that talent does not equal wins. I'm in no way saying Dorsey hasn't added talent (I believe quite the opposite), but there's a *LOT* more to being a good/great GM than talent acquisition.

Now, the Browns and Dorsey have "mutually" parted ways. Obviously, the owners thought something similar.

Well put. Lets just hope the new GM is smart enough to build on what is already here, because this roster does have talent...Some "giant ego" GM that wants to bring the wrecking ball ,would be devastating, IMO. This roster has some very good players.

Haslam has owned the team for a little over 7 years, and he's about to hire his 5th head coach....

Can't speak for anyone else but with the resources Dorsey acquired (thanks to Sashi) if he DIDN'T acquire talent that would be the story. The question is and should be did he maximize the opportunity he had? That's a clear 'not at all' in my opinion.

Yes, and the owners have thought similarly almost every year since buying the team.

When does it end? Starting over COMPLETELY every 1-2 years, does that sound like the recipe for success? I have 20 years of proof that it isn't.

Personally, I think Sashi/Dorsey combo was the best thing to happen to this franchise since Jim Brown. They were on their way. Jimmy is going to hand the keys over to a super ego wannabe coach who has no idea how to run the franchise. Everything we went through for two seasons, THAT HELPED this franchise from Sashi, is about to be undone. Like it never happened and the progress will be erased.

I'm just about done with this roller coaster ride. The older I get, the less I enjoy the feeling I'm my stomach from the excitement of a new season.

Don't ya have to have some "highs" in order for it to be a roller coaster ride? We don't even get that....Just endless dysfunction and losing football.

  16. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Our highs have been the draft and promise of change for the new season.... It's just like any roller coaster I've ever ridden. The first PEAK hill (the draft and preseason hype) and a lot of disappointment when you hit the bottom of that first drop.

  17. TopDawg Legend

Yeah. The highs we get to experience aren't even real, they're just hopes, projections and dreams.

We ought to be able to evergreen this thread, since we never said which year it was.

Also... in beginning my draft prep, I (painfully) took a look back at the last five years' worth of drafts for this team. It was three GM's worth, 3.5 head coaches', and I believe 12 assistant coordinators between offense and defense...

The 2019 draft is lining up to be like 2017 where we got one really good player (Odell Beckham Jr. via trade), a solid kicker, and a good starter.

This team needs to figure out how to draft better and then stop overturning the front office and coaching staff so much to allow these players time to develop. When trying to breakdown the state of the roster, there's only a few position that are guaranteed "safe" right now in my opinion: QB1, WR1, WR2, HB1, RG, C, DE1, CB1. That's not great.
