I hope he stays with the Browns. He can destroy them from within. I hope they sign Antonio Brown next. Burfict might be available too. Bring em all in. Sarcasm by the way
I was reading an article on seebs and it actually made a lot of sense. Williams did a good job as HC and Freddie was great as an OC. It couldn't have been worse than what happened this season.
Pretty amazing that Freddie can actually go 5-1 in the AFCN, yet a winning record overall is out of reach..... I know there's been a lot of dysfunction this season, but can Jimmy really fire Freddie if he does sweep the Ravens and finish the season with just one division loss?
If you sweep the ravens that would be a great reason to get rid of him because he should have had this team in playoff position to finish the season.
Don't stop with Freddie. Dorsey hired him and squandered the shitload of draft picks and cap room that Sashi left for him.
The only trade Dorsey made that I take (took) issue with was Zeitler for Vernon. So far, his major draft blunders made have been Corbett and Calloway. The jury is still out on Mayfield and Greedy. Mayfield may yet turn out to be a mediocre QB at best. We'll find out next year.
I guess we'll agree to disagree. The Browns could have kept Peppers, drafted Andre Dillard and another contributor in the 3rd* this year (and saved a boatload of money) and been way better off than having that cancer OBJ on the team. * Or just keep Danny Shelton. Don't understand the point in that trade either. He's a solid d-linemen.
Not sure I buy Odell as a cancer — dude gutted it all season through injury. Dorsey is the real villain in all this. He set up Freddie to fail and it has seemed like since Day 1 we’re back to the same disconnect between front office and coaching staff. Freddie failed himself by hiring weak assistants.
I'm not buying the injury BS. Too convenient after the season went up in smoke. Maybe cancer is a bit strong but he's definitely a me-first, look-at-me guy. There a dozens of receivers in the NFL I would take over him if the goal is to win football games.
Sashi set this team up for a steady rise to competitive football. Dorsey pissed away a bunch of assets to try and get there right away and look like a hero. Remember the "real football player" talk? Who says that kind of shit? He should be gone.
Crazy that the same people hailing this roster as immensely talented at the start of the season are blaming Dorsey for "setting the HC up for failure". Dorsey acquired elite talent for this team, specifically to give his offensive-minded head coach and upcoming QB the tools they needed for success. He bet on his young draft picks, in some cases, as well. Those guys all failed - HC, QB, recent draft picks given opportunity... Dorsey should be judged for picking an obviously terrible choice for HC, and should be judged based on his next selection.
How many if those receivers were available? Dorsey made a good move for an elite talent. Freddie I the biggest disappointment in a season full them. I expected rookie HC mistakes, he learned nothing week to week. Playcalling was terrible and he refused to give it up. The team quit yesterday, that was the final nail. Much of what people are complaining about OBJ is on Freddie. He can designate someone to check their players heads are on the game and not their footwear. You nip those little things and you gain player respect. The second biggest disappointment is Baker, regression is never a good look and it's the first time in his career he has regressed.
Let us not forget that, almost to a man, we were all in favor of hiring Baker's amigo as the Head Coach at this time last year. (One of us wanted Bruce Arians) So, we were wrong on that front as well as the only continuity we got was another losing season.
It's also his second year in the league - so, yeah, "his first time", but also his first opportunity. QB's, if they're going to hit a wall, typically do it in year 2. Year 1 is easier when there's less film on them, OC's are simplifying game plans, etc. Year 2, teams have thoroughly prepared for you, and you're being asked and expected to do a lot more. In Baker's case, he added "buying my hype" to the fire. No one should be judging Baker off his first or his second year (crazy, right?) - the wild swings in results indicate that this third year, with a presumably competent head coach, should be the season for which he's judged most. That said, there were no indications that Kitchens would make a good HC beyond, "He and Baker liked working together last year". Promoting your RB coach to your HC in a year's time might make for a dramatic movie, but usually not the best choice in reality. That is what played out, sadly.
There were other things that contributed as well not the least of which was: Like him or not, Odell Beckham is a highly talented WR. IMHO the rub is, for OBJ to translate his talents into on field production, he needs to run deep routes that need time to develop. What we entered the season with for an O-line was incapable of providing that time. Again, IMHO, Bitonio and Tretter were the only two players of this group capable of playing at an NFL level. Robinson, Hubbard and whoever they trotted out masquerading as a RG were worthless. Every single one of the players that lined up at LT, RG and RT were cast offs from other teams. There's a reason they were available. Dorsey hung his hat on Corbett replacing Zeitler and he whiffed. Badly.
Great points Lym. The O seemed to be set up for the deep passing game and yet the Line was not one that could believably offer that kind of protection. Total mis match of scheme to personnel. It's just my opinion, but Mayfield's penchant for going deep, feels like a QB who's not yet learned how to read a defense, so he looks deep where the coverage is easier to "see". That is my biggest concern going forward. Baker's lack of growth in that area is criminal. We have some outstanding weapons to capitalize on short passes into open spaces, but don't go there. Big plays are great, but you can't make them your bread and butter or you will fail to move the chains.
