Cable TV launched a missle to the movie industry and hollywood is still trying to figure things out. The war of the eyeballs is on! You want to diminish the success of the sopranos because the ratings on their finale didn't live up to Mash? Only 30 million people were able to watch it. They wrote in a gay character, the ending was left to the viewers imagination. The show was a big success, some calling it the best tv show of all time. If you still like to go out and catch a movie, nothing wrong, I still go myself. I just don't see the same fulfillment as I get when watching breaking bad, sopranos or mad men (and I'm not even a fanatic). There's actually a game of thrones cult out there.
And even with this latest Netflix move defying the big theaters, basically telling them where to go with the Irishman. Times are changing and the big corps don't like it.
Skinny u said JR and Sopranos were one of the most watched shows ever. All I'm saying is the MASH finale was #1 until a SB beat it, but is still #1 for a non-sports broadcast. The Seinfeld finale is also top 2-5, not Dallas or the Sopranos. That's all I'm saying. Movies are very expensive to go too. for me alone it's $13.50 a ticket non-Imax and $15.55 for a medium popcorn and large soda. that's for me and me alone. that's insane.
Only 30 million households had HBO at the time. My point is that if people find that staying on a sunday night and watching something like Breaking Bad, movies will be a second choice. A family of four will cost you close to $100 with admission/food/gas to go out and watch a movie. Staying in to watch a show like breaking bad will be a fraction of the cost.
The future technology for movie making could all be computer generated. They could just have the image of the actor and create the motions.
cable will be toast in about 4-5 years. everyone is cutting cable for netflix, amazon prime, hulu, disney + etc. the moment they can get philly sports on a streaming service, i am cutting cable. what i pay for 1 box and tv is insane. and their wifi services are expensive too. fuck that.
SNF has been a competition to the movie theaters, you take two cities plus surrounding areas out of play.
seeing uncut gems tonight at 10. Spoiler reviews are either great or really bad for this movie. i don't get the bad reviews at all. if you ever seen the movie Rounders with Matt Damon and Edward Norton, Adam Sandler's character is like Worm in Rounders. A guy who is kind of sleazy and in way over his head and always one step ahead of trouble. Sander is terrific as this degenerate gambler, jewel seller, who owes money all over NY and using money that isn't his to finance other deals. It's a fast pace 2+ hr movie. Critics bash the soundtrack and music. I didn't mind it at all. It all goes with the fast telling of the story and Sandler's characters fast life. Kevin Garnett is great as himself too. Very solid. A-. I don't know if Sandler will get Oscar nominated here. It's a big here for movie roles and nabbing one of the 5 spots for this role vs others will be very tough.
skinny you post doesn't make sense? i saw uncut gems last night and posted about it. you posted thanos from the avengers: endgame, which came out last summer. they don't mix.
