Damn twitter, they have Bob Cole trending.

Right away I thought he might've tested positive, good thing I was wrong.

Still don't know why he's trending.

NBCSN plans to shut down at the end of 2021. This could have significant implications for the NHL since they have the broadcast rights. The TV deal is scheduled to expire at the end of the season.

This could work to the NHL’s benefit as they hammer out their next tv contract. We’ll have endured a year and a half of hockey in empty barns. The owners are rich, but not rich enough to bleed too much longer. (Fortunately they do have Kraken expansion fee bucks checks in the mail.)

The owners should be pulling out all stops to get a max tv deal. The future salary cap depends on higher HRR.

Here’s a suggestion: make nice with the Buffalo Sabres since Buffalo generally has significantly higher tv ratings compared to every other US market. Since the tv contract will be higher if the network anticipates high ratings, and since Buffalo fans could get weary if the Sabres don’t show a spark of life, then it serves the best interest of the NHL to help Buffalo get better.

I suggest that every team chip in to buy the Sabres something nice. Draft picks, young 2C’s, backstops, big fast & burly players - every team send something to Buffalo. Even the Kraken can check in by promising to take a fat contract off the Sabres hands.

You'd think that during a pandemic the TV rights would be front-and-center and they better get something worked out and signed, but a better option is to open these barns up and get fans in there.

Michigan is opening resteraunts Feb, 1st... I hope they are including sporting events also. Like you said , Dan... the owners can not continue to bleed like this or the NHL and other Leagues will be doomed, not just the TV rights. There must be alternatives for revenue and quick or the games we love will be taking too big of a hit, in my opinion.

Totally agree Will........we have discovered during Covid is to just play the game......I wonder if Rogers will submit a Bid for NHL ???

NBC was a 10 year deal and they did a good job and I wonder are they going to step up again and make a offer.

The tv contracts are separate for the USA and Canada. Rogers is not part of the discussion.

Yes I know you are right they are separate....NBC did a good job for 10 years I would like hell to see the USA lose the TV Contract.

Rodgers is locked in to a 12 years 5 B $ deal......that would be a Huge conflict......viewership has been on the Up and Up with NBC.

I do hope NBC continues with coverage.......BUT in times of Covid I get why they may not.

Well, they’re closing down the NBCSN network entirely. There’s a distinct possibility that the next US tv deal is for quite a bit more than the current expiring one.

There will be a US deal. The size of is the question. But there’s reason for optimism.

The Seattle Kraken named John Forslund their first television play-by-play broadcaster on Tuesday.

"It is an honor to join the Seattle Kraken as their inaugural television voice," Forslund said. "I am looking forward to reuniting with (general manager) Ron Francis and working alongside (radio play-by-play broadcaster) Everett Fitzhugh. Throughout my career, I have cherished my connection with fans. To get the chance to create that bond and tell the Kraken story from Day One is a magnificent opportunity. I would like to thank the Seattle Kraken for this chance."

Forslund also calls NHL games on NBC Sports. He previously was a radio and TV broadcaster for the Hartford Whalers/Carolina Hurricanes from 1995-2020.

"John Forslund is one of the best broadcasters in sport," Kraken CEO Tod Leiweke said. "He always brings fresh perspective and having him as a voice of our franchise is a big win for us and for our fans. He will play a role in introducing hockey to new fans and become a team ambassador for us."

Kraken games will be broadcast in the Seattle area on Root Sports regional sports network.

TSN is a shit show. Dan O'Toole, Kristian Jack, Natasha Staniszewski, producer Tim and their head writer all got fired. Today Bell shut down the TSN radio stations in Hamilton, Winnipeg and Vancouver. No warning for any of this by the way. Vancouver is the 2nd most listened to sports station in Canada after the TSN Toronto. Vancouver had their broadcast interrupted to say the station is done effective immediately and a new non-sports format will be up on Friday. They were cut off. No warning. And to make it worse they played Good Riddance by Green Day after their message.

Jay doing all he can to hold it in. He sniffles and has wet red eyes and they are wet in the corners as well as under his nose.

Liked not for what was written. But for one of the more stunning posts I’ve read on L4S.

The way this was handled will be a case study for how to not do things.
